When you give tax cuts to low and middle class folks they have more discretionary spending, or they can afford to keep themselves healthy; thereby making themselves more productive. Right now Obama gives more tax breaks to the lower classes (95% of Americans) than McCain. By raising taxes on the rich to 1990s levels, the government is still able to function and the rich can still live very comfortably.

When you give tax cuts to low and middle class folks they have more discretionary spending, or they can afford to keep themselves healthy; thereby making themselves more productive. Right now Obama gives more tax breaks to the lower classes (95% of Americans) than McCain. By raising taxes on the rich to 1990s levels, the government is still able to function and the rich can still live very comfortably.

Leave it to the Dems to try to convince us that success is a BAD THING. So McCain owns 7 houses. Whoopie! As the story goes, several are rental properties (as in "investments"), his daughter lives in one and his wife's aunt lives in another. Now, Obama, on the other hand, lives in a $3M home bought with dubious funding while his brother lives in a 6x9 shack somewhere in Kenya.

The problem is the DNC is capitalizing on the fact that most people own only one house. Asking him how many houses (investment properties) is akin to asking someone how many shares of a particular stock they own. Ask anyone exactly what is in their investment portfolio and I'm sure you'll get a similar answer. O

The fact that 70% of Americans already keep their tires properly inflated suggests that this idea will have minimal effect, at best. Drilling is necessary, because, as you surely realize, virtually everything we use in our daily lives requires oil in its manufacture. No one is suggesting that we not explore other possibilities, but if you believe we're going to develop a new energy source and bring it to market sooner than we can drill, you're high. What am I saying? Of course you are!

No one is asking to ban the petrochemical industry, but we need to stop using oil as an ENERGY source, and if we didn't a half trillion on a unnecessary war we could afford to rebuild our energy economy. Think about it, renewable energy like solar and wind is unlimited and free, all we have to do is invest in technologies to harvest it.

I'm absolutely serious, and your right, the infrastructure does not exist, but the delivery system does. Ever heard of a wind turbine my friend? Ever hear of a hydroelectric dam? Ever hear of Solar energy? These technologies require a huge amount of investment, but once you get past those challenges they work on free energy, you don't pay for sunlight, you don't get a check every month for wind. You don't drill sunlight and you don't drill wind. We can change our energy economy.

If "Drilling" was a real issue, the Oil companies would be drilling right now. Millions of acres of land that Big oil is leasing right now, and they wont drill?

I'm more concerned about Ted Kennedy staying in power than the oil companies. Do you even know what ANWR is? They've spent years and millions doing geological surveys and were then told they couldn't drill. The other millions of acres would require exploration. Do you realize the area in question is a small area, about the size of Dulles Airport?

the land they have leased either has no oil or it has such little oil that getting it wouldn't be cost-effective. Paris Hilton had it right...invest in new technologies, and drill to lower the price of oil til the new technologies come to be. That is the only solution...

A very selfless statement because it angered his base. The American economy is good fundamentally it needs less regulation and a better corporate tax structure but it still is on solid ground.

Mortgage interest deduction is a massive, massive subsidy, and implicit government backing of Fannie and Freddie is another massive subsidy. The government created this bubble intentionally. Goldman Sachs saw it coming, sold CDO's to unwary banks, then shorted the piss out of the bank indexes before the bonds went bad and the banks failed.

No it did not. First the American Economy is highly regulated. Second the mortgage crises came about through poor lending practices encouraged by the Federal government in order to increase the availability of loans to lower income groups. With such easy credit lots of bad loans went out and the government was forced to cover the losses. Thats what regulation and identity politics gets you.
