If a Pac-12 school had a band like that, or even played an arrangement like that, it would be awesome. My alma mater Arizona's starting to get into playing cool stuff, but I always wish "mainstream" schools' bands could be as innovative as the HBCU's.
@wangcity223 - Naw, you are just the only one who points them out. Most of us, who listen to Southern or most SWAC bands have a tendency to Overblow and rush the tempo. Its known, keep digging you will find more.

I seriously don't understand why anyone would play a woodwind instrument in the SU band. You wouldn't even be heard so technically......you could get a free scholarhsip by being a horn holder. Awesome!

@Wayla2010 to be honest you can have a marching band without any woodwinds. check out DCI (Drum Corps International) they can play full orchestral peaces without a single woodwind. all you need are instruments to play the S.A.T.B. Lines and thats all you need.

@Wayla2010 SU used to march with no woodwinds. They start marching having woodwinds to give people that play woodwinds the opportunity to be apart of the Jukebox. But woodwinds are a great asset to marching bands. The way SU plays the woodwinds are just hangin in there.

@Wayla2010 Good point! If the woodwinds were not there, then the quality of the sound would definitely drop. SU's sound is predominantly a brass sound, but the woodwinds balance out it out and give the band a more well-rounded sound.
@SVRCentral2010 Even though the band at my colleqe is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy smaller than Southern's band as a piccolo player i still have to do my part and play every sonq and piccolos cut through the band so therefore there's no room for error what-so-ever. So no woodwinds do not just sit there and hold their hold and not play and 9 times out of 10 you find that the woodwind instruments are way better that the brass instruments because is hard to play out of the context of our instruments
