Maar als Schippers ooit overlijdt is ook onze onsterfelijke Nederlandstalige Ernie dood.

Ik kan me namelijk niet voorstellen dat iemand anders dit karaktertje zo veel "ziel" kan geven als Wim dat doet, daar is hij uniek in.

Datzelfde geldt ook voor Paul Haenen en Bert.

Hun stemmen SPELEN Bert en Ernie niet, hun stemmen ZIJN Bert en Ernie.

Er komen wel vervangers tegen die tijd. In America heeft Steve Whitmire ook Jim Henson (Ernie/Kermit) vervangen en hoewel hij niet 100% hetzelfde klinkt merk je dat hij wel de essentie van Ernie goed snapt wat hem tot een goede opvolger maakt. Daarnaast is het hier alleen een kwestie van inspreken waardoor je in feite alleen de stem moet kunnen nadoen.

And the best thing is: Jim Henson liked them so much that he himself gave Paul Haenen (Bert) and Wim T. Schippers permission to create new Bert and Ernie material, instead of just dubbing over existing material. That gave us unique skits with, for instance Sinterklaas.

I like this version, although the original is indeed sweeter. "Our" version is a bit more giddy, but the message is the same and brought by the Ernie the Dutch audience knows and loves.
