It's ag ood car, because of the CVT, it doesn't shift (well it does, but you don't notice it) mening you can pull op to 60 without having the draw back of shifting gears. I can outrun most cars at the traffic lights :-)
On the Honda Civic Hybrid the City/Highway/Combined on the 2008 model is 40/45/42 Respectively. That's on the website at least. People have been known to get over 50 Miles Per Gallon. (In the United States) I don't know how many Kilometers per Liter it gets.
Seeing as in Japan, cars are junked or rebuilt before they are old enough to fall apart (but old enough to have bad emissions), I'd go the Toyota way. It's a better idea, in theory. This assumes that when the car WANTS to start, it can start. Not an assumption you can make on an older car. Once the Honda is started, it's started. I'd probably buy a Toyota hybrid in Japan and a Honda one in the USA. LOL
Things are reversed with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, which finds the Prius starting out on battery electric power. The gasoline engine seamlessly starts up to provide additional power during acceleration, at higher speeds, or when driving up grades. This ability to run at times on battery power alone is an important distinction to some folks, since this means Toyota's hybrids are actually zero emission vehicles during the time they're electrically driven. Honda's hybrids cannot do this.
Honda IMA system's electric motor/generator supplies additional power to the gasoline engine when needed for acceleration or when driving demands are greater, such as when climbing grades, thus the designation "motor assist." The Honda gasoline engine always provides propulsion.
