i knew which ones were paul mcartney and john lennon but at first i could nt figure out which one was george harrison and which one was was ringo star , i kinda figured the one playing the drums was ringo and the other playing the guitar was george.
My mother was 7 months pregnant with me when this aired. Though my parents weren't big Beatle fans, who could argue that this was history? I'm told that my grandmother yelled LOOKIT THEM DAMNED KIDS WITH THAT LONG HAIR!!
Unlike today, they were allowed to be less than perfect, to have their own character. George's left eye is a little off, and Ringo definitely has a schnozz. To me that was part of their charm.
George Harrison was recovering from strep. Thanks to his sister Lou, George was able to play on television with the other boys. (Lou flew up from Benton IL to nurse her beautiful brother with the wavy hair back to health) Hats off to Lou!
...and the guy is pushing 70 and people, boys & girls alike experience euphoria and joy when he sings... there was something special about this music. The voice, the ideas... and funny thing was they were just a little rock n roll band... they didn't intend to be the voice of a.... generation isn't the word... more like "voice of a species". I know some people don't like them but that's OK. Many bands did these songs or songs like them but something about these four...
Crime was down nationwide the night of this broadcast. Probably all the professional crooks were still out there, as usual, but all the juvenile criminals were home watching the Beatles. I guess.
I love this and the Beatles are incredible - but it drives me nuts that they don't have John Lennons microphone turned on - so you can only hear Paul's voice singing half the harmony!
They are still fresh and new to this day. There will never be another group like them!

Look at 6:28, the eye connection George and John made, subtle things like that showed for magic this group had.

Gotta give Elvis' manager Col. Parker his props, he figured out a way to get an Elvis mention during the Beatles performance....
