If you wait till you're 16 to learn these skills, you're way too late. You need to start learning and practicing as early as 7-8 years old. Some kids are already good players by the time they're 12, and being recruited for high school teams. You might think you're funny, but you're not.
i can make any shot from the free throw in, in front of the arc, no errors in stroke...ut i die on the three. i am strong but kind of skiny, and have trouble hoisting thhe ball accurately. help?
just to add more to what yaya said below ..when you use your leg power to get that lift make sure you extend one of your legs first (right leg first if you are a right hander or vice versa) , bend down and go up in the air or take that lift while shooting a long range jumper or a 3 pointer kinda like when you make a normal jump .keep practicing till u feel comfortable with that FORM.. remeber FORM is the most important thing shots will fall if your technique is correct.

i play football (soccer) when i was young so the power in my legs is their i could strike a football halfway without a bounce (im only 5 feet 4) i can go in practice like 70% mid range but when it come to threes my normal tecnique ends always with airballs the line of my shot is correct but the power is not their the shot does come from ur arms aswell as ur legs no doubt while in mid air the flick and snap of ur wrist and arm needs power so how u say thrre pointers r from legs.
if ur not strong that will happen bend a little more and shoot while ur going up and not at the top of ur jumper and add more snap upward with ur wrist

VERY true. In high school I was 6'2" and about 155lbs. I had range out to about 23 feet and an excellent midrange jumper. I never worked out my arms and could only bench about 135lbs. In college I started working out and as a result I LOST a great deal of range and accuracy because I was relying on the new strength in my arms, instead of using pure form like before.

Working out your arms won't help that much. If you learn how to shoot properly using the strength of your legs you'll be able to hit threes. However, if you want to be a GOOD shooter, not just a good 3pt shooter, practice shooting really close to the basket and work your way out. I used to shoot 1 foot from the hoop just perfecting my form, then back out to 3 feet, then 6, then 12, then 15 (free throw). If you perfect that, then you can safely back out to the 3pt line.
LoL thats funny.. u need some muscles before you can start shooting from the 3 point. If you have problems with power, what you can do, depending on if your are left or right handed, i'm right-handed and i taught some young kids to shoot, is to step in using your right foot and shoot off your left, while keeping your same form, you are basically pushing off with power using your legs, instead of your shoulder, arm and so forth. But the key to making shots is to practice.

when you shoot use your pointer finger in the dead center and straight up and down it helps alot ... also when u ly in bed with head on pillow grab the bakll and shoot up and try and make it backspin to land on your face( catch it though) untill you have this perfected

most young players can't seem to grasp the idea of using the legs.
your arm strength does not matter, really.
use your legs to propel yourself upward and follow through.

if the ball is spinning to the right then try to re-angle your hand so the palm is a little more to the left. or vice versa.
youl find this may help with the "its going to the right" thing aswell
if not.. jus imagine the basket is to the left a bit and aim for that. it might go in :D
