And the thing to include with that - there are so many online poker sites, people can pick any one they want. So they are competing strongly for players. One of the biggest concerns people have is "is my money safe, is the play fair, etc. etc." It's in their interest to provide that, and with today's technology it isn't hard to prevent collusion. So no way do I buy it, that groups of guys get on the phone with each other and sit at the same table taking everyone's money by colluding...
@Minsheme Well why? Casinos hate cheaters more than anything. Logs of all play compared against the database of average play is going to show up immediately for anyone who is colluding in any sort of serious way. The money these sites can make is purely based on having as many people as possible playing as many hands as possible. There isn't any possible argument as to why they'd ignore unfair play, especially, like I said, given how much competition there is for players online.
@dannymaclamp On Pokerstars, which so many people claim is fixed (including me) gives me a $100 loss since i started playing not too long ago. Whereas on 888, I'm up $50 dollars after having started very recently. And, TopShark says I'm a 2-star Deuce (Which is absolutely terrible.) and 888 says I'm a 4 star Queen (Which is pretty great.)
@dannymaclamp Also, I've noticed a pattern they use on players to get them addicted. Every once in a while, they get lucky and quadruple their deposit. But then they start losing again. It's to keep players addicted, and they probably have a bot or something that recognizes your play, profit, loss and ROI. It will give you good or bad cards depending on how good or bad you are at Poker. I don't think this is EXACTLY what happens, but it's just so consistent that it has to be something like this.

I agree with him. With basic programs collusion should be incredibly easy to detect. First and foremost would be the same players playing together often, that elminates 99% of average people who don't have the means to create multiple accounts with false identities.. And then you compare play to standard moves in a certain position, when it deviates greatly, it raises a flag. Then a pretty basic examination by a half intelligent player can make the determination.

Wrong. Playing only $5 tables, I turned my $100 buy-in into almost $650, then cashed out after seeing miracle after miracle after miracle. Mathematically speaking, how likely is it that I could be donkey player AND increase my money so much playing for such small stakes? Very improbable, indeed. Like once I got "K" "3" suited 8 out of 13 hands in a row. 5 times it came str8. Ok I've gotten same suited hands back to back like twice ever in the casino maybe after 3,000, 4,000 hands. most people wouldnt call 4 big bets after the turn without a premium hand. but if u get to the river, u or ur partner must have a decent hand to showdown. or the table and the floor will catch on to u. most of the time, u just play normal when the oppurtunity comes, u and ur partner will know the strength of eachothers hand. me and friend perfected this. and one of us would ussually leave the game broke. so no one would suspect. but the other was always stacking a mountain of chips.
thats why i said both players should have a good understanding of poker and good card sense.
even if both of the players colluding have shit hands. they can raise and reraise eachother to put pressure on the other player in the hand.
i also forgot to mention that it should only be used when sparingly and only when u and ur prartner and 1 more player are in the pot. if both players are decent they can tell whether the 3rd player is going to call a 4 bet without a nut hand.
i came up with a collusion scam. its called the 1-4 chip rule, and it works best in live limit games. u and a partner sit in a limit game. they convey to eachother the strength of theyre hand by holding 1-4 chips in theyre hand. 1 chips means they have nothing, 2 chips means and atleast a pair or a good draw, 3 means u have a strong hand that u think is best at that moment, 4 means u have the mortal nuts. it also requires both players to understand good poker. ive used this a week str8 and won.
@mickymacky02 ye but that really only helps you avoid taking each others money. In order to run a scam where your pumping the pot between to guys you have to have a nearly unbeatable hand or u run the risk of sinking your money.

Wrong. Playing only $5 tables, I turned my $100 buy-in into almost $650, then cashed out after seeing miracle after miracle after miracle. Mathematically speaking, how likely is it that I could be donkey player AND increase my money so much playing for such small stakes? Very improbable, indeed. I AM a good player, and I am CONVINCED that these sites cater to the donkeys who represent about 99.5% of their players. If all the donkeys left, these sites would lose A LOT of money in buy-in fees.

I have been a professional software engineer for 40 years. From a technical perspective, it would be tivial for the operators of an online poker site to play against me while seeing every card in my hand. I am not judging anyone. All I am saying is that cheating would be very easy.

online poker cheating is hard to track, because these cheaters are willing to lose money to fall in a statistically plausible win rate. It's kind of how counting cards in black jack evolved. card counters came with more complex systems of counting cards to give the impression that fall in a statistical probability, but still come out winning. Poker cheats are doing the same thing. But poker players are so invested in the industry that they can't really come to grips with it.

I play Professional Poker Player. In the casinos & online. I can tell you for a fact that Absolute Poker.Com cheats. You start noticing things that would never happen in real casino play. Like once I got "K" "3" suited 8 out of 13 hands in a row. 5 times it came str8. Ok I've gotten same suited hands back to back like twice ever in the casino maybe after 3,000, 4,000 hands. Crap like that was happening on AP everyday like ever other game or so. The odds don't add up. Go on now F.B.I. seized it

This is shit. First of all, Hellmuth is not the one to teach anybody about "looking for excuses". He's a cry baby and not that good player in big cash games. Second of all, online poker is really crooked and there's no doubt about that. You can play million real poker hands and you won't get that much shit you get in 100 online poker hands. Of-course system isn't created for one or two or million players to lose/win, it's the same for everybody. But it is crooked, no doubt.

I hate Phil Hellmuth but i do like his advice in this situation. I don't think online poker is rigged at all. Yeah sometimes you lose with the best starting hand.......that's poker. It doesn't happen as much as you think. Go to PokerTableRatings and replay your hand histories. You'll see it all evens out in the end.

most people wouldnt call 4 big bets after the turn without a premium hand. but if u get to the river, u or ur partner must have a decent hand to showdown. or the table and the floor will catch on to u. most of the time, u just play normal when the oppurtunity comes, u and ur partner will know the strength of eachothers hand. me and friend perfected this. and one of us would ussually leave the game broke. so no one would suspect. but the other was always stacking a mountain of chips.

thats why i said both players should have a good understanding of poker and good card sense.
even if both of the players colluding have shit hands. they can raise and reraise eachother to put pressure on the other player in the hand.
i also forgot to mention that it should only be used when sparingly and only when u and ur prartner and 1 more player are in the pot. if both players are decent they can tell whether the 3rd player is going to call a 4 bet without a nut hand.

i came up with a collusion scam. its called the 1-4 chip rule, and it works best in live limit games. u and a partner sit in a limit game. they convey to eachother the strength of theyre hand by holding 1-4 chips in theyre hand. 1 chips means they have nothing, 2 chips means and atleast a pair or a good draw, 3 means u have a strong hand that u think is best at that moment, 4 means u have the mortal nuts. it also requires both players to understand good poker. ive used this a week str8 and won.

This is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Almost all internet gaming sites have been caught scamming and some shut down completely. Its not the other players you have to worry about, its the website itself. There are many ways they scam and steal peoples money. 60 minutes did a documentary on it. From arming people with a program to see all the cards to rigging the cards. There have been many studies on these sites and they all had the same conclusion. They are all scams.

I emailed jokerstars about 2 players colluding.....dumping chips to each other, standing pat in 5 card draw so the other player would win. All I got was a form letter and they did nothing at all. You need to update this and see how attitudes have changed since 2004.

At the risk of getting 'thumbed down' I have to agree with Phil on one point in particular - everybody thinks they're a great player so if they lose it must be rigged. The reality is the vast majority of people who play texas hold' em online SUCK at it. People in general play too many marginal hands (ie. KJ AQ etc.) and they play them terribly.
