  • Is that Marvin Gaye on drums? He was an excellent Motown drummer.

  • I had fun singing along & pretending I'm a white Edwin Starr! Thanks!

I used to listen to the Starr version at night on KOMA, 'til they ruined it by adding some "fun" lyrics to it. Dumb DJs.

But sadly, they were the only station I could receive that played it at all.

  • I LOVE MOTOWN!

  • love that vinyl needle drop at the beginning. you know something fresh is coming after that sound ;)

  • ...this is definitely Babbitt on this one!

  • new kind of instrus, any where from ,find new vibes ,hip hop seems to be dead

  • luvin this tune .. ktf

  • This is kind of like that Beach Boys "Stack

o Tracks" collection...lets you hear the

great melody behind a great song!

  • It got plenty of airplay in Washington DC......I remember WOL so well. I also have the same record but on the yellow label. The Funk Brothers got fined for doing this "moonglight" gig.

  • @ioxxd90 Yes, and Ric Tic's owner Eddie Wingate crashed the Motown Christmas party that year and paid them back double that fine....

  • WOW Don`t think i`ve heard this instrumental so clear, thanks

  • Also Sonny Stitt performed a cover of this on alto sax - that version is absolutely wicked ! If anyone has it, please post !

  • Check out James Jamerson's bass line @ 1:49 !

  • This is The Funk Brothers' instumental track before Edwin Starr recorded the vocals . This was a bad ass song and deserved more airplay than it did !

  • Yeah, I much prefer the instrumental. To me, the vocal interferes with the mighty CRUNNNNCHHH of the rhythm section. Although I'm sure there are people that would disagree with me, at the end of the day, it's a matter of taste.

  • @xwsftassell I agree with you, it is a matter of taste, I like both sides myself....A great showcase for the Funk Brothers either way!!

  • @xwsftassell NO!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, THE INSTRUMENTALS OF THE FUNK BROTHERS TAKE ON A WHOLE NEW DIMENSION WHEN IT'S JUST THEM

big fan of the 60s, 70s, BEATLES and THE FUNK BROTHERS
