I can't get my sound to load on ubuntu 7.10! The drivers are already installed. It will work sometimes if i reboot, but it just stopped working! My sound card is a Soundblaster Live 24-bit internal card running on ubuntu gutsy gibbon. I have dual boot with Windows XP and the sound works just fine! Can somebody please help!
son of a dam billy goat! whut is it about compiz & beryl videos that makes ppl want to add music? who started this!?
for the 9 millionth time, PLeeZ make a video explaining how to install compiz. Showing it off to your friends is fine and dandy, but, u can b better than that. you could show the world how to install it, then everyone could live in Harmony, just like U2 !
so as soon as i download and install ubuntu 7.10 gutsy gibbon, it will be like that? i wont have to install anything extra? i wont have to do loads of stuff like: sudo apt-get install?
That's a cool distro - I got networking & sound to work with this using VirtualBox on an Ubuntu 7.10 box. Have only tried 10.2 as a direct installation thus far and all hardware worked ok. Still; a lack of driver support from hardware makers and Vista's HFS technology may continue to make things tough for Linux Distros. From personal experience, Ubuntu has proved pretty solid with hardware compatibility thus far, but I don't really know enough to claim that its a superior Distro in that regard.
Yeah - no guarantees with Linux, although it has improved immensely. I hear more people complaining about Vista's compatibility problems - I had to update my BIOS to get 3d graphics to work with it. That's all cool if you're into fiddling with computers, but pretty tough for someone who doesn't know anything other than browsing or e-mail. Right now Dell is selling computers with Ubuntu pre-installed, so I guess that's the 'safest' option.
I think Win/Nix/Mac all have their respective strong points and see no reason to go polar on any one system. Your choice of system should be based on personal preferences and not the reputation of the users. I personally use Ubuntu and XP. As for Vista, I am trying it out, but prefer the XP to it at this stage. But anyway; tell me how your chain of thought along with resorting to childish personal insults does not still show to everyone that you have the very problem you are accusing me of?
Yeah it's too bad you can't run all three on the same system (easily). Mac doesn't like their OS on other people's hardware, and installing Windows and Linux on a Mac is a pain.
i ve the last ubuntu but when i run wmv video ,sometimes the image became not clear, stopped ,then playing agan,(i ve video card),, is it the problem of media player?,,wich media player u used? thnx
I Am very happy! I am using Ubuntu 2 months now ....Now i have install hardy heron the first alpha version and i am waiting the newest version to check how will be ! for those that insist to use windows i am telling them to try for 1 time ubuntu
me de uma forca ja uso o ubuntu a 2 anos mais depois que eu fis o upgrade pro 7.10 o beryl sumil com os botoem de minimizar e maximizar e fechar tem alguma ideia ja fis tudo que eu podia help lets make linux work perfectly for all human and another ano are you using gsopcas? valeu
As if your sweeping generalization about linux users wasn't bad enough, you blow any credibility your opinions may have had by conceding you have a problem with bias straight after that. I commend you for that much. BTW: Windows and Max users can be just as polarized.
eii, is nice, could you tell me the name of the program that you use to listen music and wacth tv and watch films?, I saw your video and I really want to have them, I use XMMS to listen music, Totem for watch films and Zatoo for tv. Thank uuuuu!!!!!!!

You should download Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007 (freeware), set up a PC and install this OS on it. :-)

OpenSuSE 10.3
Other than the sound and network stuff not working, it seems pretty neat so far.

Our kernel can run any Steam game thanks to WINE.

Which a lot of linux users do. :\
I've never met someone who uses linux that isn't a complete and total asshole so I'm biased against it.
Also, I wasn't aware WINE supported DirectX games now...
