Oh please the writing for new who stinks, Old who had people like Douglas Adams who wrote Hichhikers guide, episodes were intellegent (for the most part) and had a very credibale Sci Fi element (for the most part), the excat oposite is true for new who, only Mofat is any good, now we have Pig men, bad romance and Daleks being killed with a flick of the switch for no cleary defined reason. So yeah...

My favourite theme is from the time when Tom Baker was the doctor. Perhaps not surprisingly, he is also my favourite doctor. After he left the theme was continually emasculated, though it seems to have recaptured some of its old power with the latest few series, since C. Eccleston became the doctor.
my favs are in this order: David Tennant (10), christopher Eccelston (9), Peter Davison (5), the others are good, in their way with the intruments, and sound effects but those ones I preffer.

Wow! I love the older ones. Especially all the themes from the late 60's/early 70's- I just found them so beautiful to watch as well as listen to. As for the one from the 90's- it just made me cringe.

cut out the 6th doctor, i hate the tune the actor and the silly rainbow stars, in 5th, 6th and 7th. The movie seemed rubbish. I think up to the 5th doctor they went down hill, but the 9th brought it back on track and Tannet is best so far.

number 5 did last quite long but number 6 lasted longer! and number six was da worst theme! i accidently used the closing theme on number six, the rest are opening themes.
If they ever make a movie about the time wars they should use Paul McGann's theme but instead of it beening the start music it should be used as the battle theme. Every time i hear it i imagine the daleks attacking the timelords and as they are beating them they detect a object approaching their fleet.
They scan it and when they see it as a big blue box they start screaming orders to attack it and we all hear that one sound they all try to hide when evil see's the oncoming storm...fear.

Yeah, they've brought back the "electronic scream" at the very beginning (and it really is the same "scream" sound as before - it's been directly sampled).
Ooh, I just love that sound. Because it just comes screaming out of nowhere and, if you're not expecting it, then it makes you jump out of your skin.
Always thought it was the perfect introduction to the theme - it just unapologetically comes straight in and screams "it's Doctor Who time!", instantly ramping up the anticipation for the episode - and I guess they've realised that too, by bringing it back. :D
And I do love the new violin arrangement on top (nicknamed "the chase", apparently) - which is actually a brand new addition to the theme that was never in it before.
It was taking a risk to add something entirely new to such an established and well-known theme - because if you get it wrong, then, oh boy, will you not only get in deep trouble with the devoted fans, but a lot of musicians also have a love for this theme (I mean, even the likes of the almighty Pink Floyd - among the best selling acts of all-time - have taken to "borrow" that bass line on occasion).
But - breathe a sigh of relief - because I think the new violin part is absolutely perfect. ;D
tats quite a good point actually. they r all great! but 4 some reason the latest 1 and the movie's 1 r the best. i find the orchestral themes sound more epic, powerful and more professional, but the synth ones suit dr who a bit more. and the original is very alien. just like the dr.
the tardis sound is the sound of a front door key scraping against a piano wire, but i fink after they did tht, they manipulated the sound electronically 2 make it more doctor whoey.
Electronic music was brand new at the time and there weren't any synthesisers or multi-track recording equipment, so the theme was put together in a really complex way, by physically splicing tapes and playing them back at different speeds to get different notes.
It's really impressive and must have taken them ages to do it, but, apparently, every single note in the original theme was individually manually hand-crafted. And I literally mean every single note.
What is really hard to appreciate today is that at the time that the original theme was broadcast, no-one had heard anything like it.
Even today, it still has a timeless weird and "alien" quality to it, but, back then, most people had never heard any "electronic music" at all - this theme was one of the first major electronic themes ever created that the general public had ever heard.
Indeed, a mother wrote in to the Radio Times to complain that the theme music was much, much too frightening for children to hear.
As time has gone on, while the theme has gotten more orchestral and impactful - which I also like very much - it's increasingly lost that "alien" feel it originally had.
So, oddly, I would say that the first and the last themes are the best at the same time.
There are only three things worth being - A citizen of the Foundation, the Captain of a federation Starship......or Dr Who !.

Ive gone through 2 playstation 1 systems, a few cd player stereo systems
but my Original PONG Machine, my Cassette Player, and my Atari 2600 still work to this day.

Yeah well he's reported to want to keep everyone guessing as to when he'll leave. I was horrified when he started regenerating... I was like NOOOO!!! Haha.

Your comments are very true and I agree nearly who heartedly, however the text states "1st use of the vortex effect" or something similar to that, and as you know that was jon pertwees last season. I really enjoyed the vide though and look forward to many more

yh he did, but this video only his first 1. i only wanted 2 put in one titles per doctor. it makes the title of my video a bit misleading. well sorta. but technically, ive only called this video every sinlge doctor who THEME. and technically i hav got every single Theme! but i havent got every single title sequence. now wot i mean?
anyway i shud be producing a new video with ALL of the doctor who titles wen series four of doctor who has finished airin in the uk

my favorites where the 8th,9th,10th,4th,5th,6th,and the 1st doctors themes but in my personal opinnion series 4 theme is the best one

and the simpsons is awesome. but doctor who is slightly awesomer.

oh rite of course. i no wot u mean now! sorry. anyway, american telly is no way neer as good as british telly and no they dont hav a rich history, at all. they only hav about one or two programs that have been going on long, wiv da simpsons being one of them.
i watch quite a lot of american tv, but MOST of its crap compared to british telly. in fact i mite make a series of vids about how british telly is da best.

If they ever make a movie about the time wars they should use Paul McGann's theme but instead of it beening the start music it should be used as the battle theme. Every time i hear it i imagine the daleks attacking the timelords and as they are beating them they detect a object approaching their fleet.
They scan it and when they see it as a big blue box they start screaming orders to attack it and we all hear that one sound they all try to hide when evil see's the oncoming storm...fear.

Yeah, they've brought back the "electronic scream" at the very beginning (and it really is the same "scream" sound as before - it's been directly sampled).
Ooh, I just love that sound. Because it just comes screaming out of nowhere and, if you're not expecting it, then it makes you jump out of your skin.

Always thought it was the perfect introduction to the theme - it just unapologetically comes straight in and screams "it's Doctor Who time!", instantly ramping up the anticipation for the episode - and I guess they've realised that too, by bringing it back. :D
And I do love the new violin arrangement on top (nicknamed "the chase", apparently) - which is actually a brand new addition to the theme that was never in it before.

It was taking a risk to add something entirely new to such an established and well-known theme - because if you get it wrong, then, oh boy, will you not only get in deep trouble with the devoted fans, but a lot of musicians also have a love for this theme (I mean, even the likes of the almighty Pink Floyd - among the best selling acts of all-time - have taken to "borrow" that bass line on occasion).
But - breathe a sigh of relief - because I think the new violin part is absolutely perfect. ;D

Actually, that violin isn't what's new with the Tenth theme. The drum beat is, the violin was in the ninth as well, just not as loud.
Unless you're comparing the ninth to the previous ones, in which case, ignore this.

tats quite a good point actually. they r all great! but 4 some reason the latest 1 and the movie's 1 r the best. i find the orchestral themes sound more epic, powerful and more professional, but the synth ones suit dr who a bit more. and the original is very alien. just like the dr.

Electronic music was brand new at the time and there weren't any synthesisers or multi-track recording equipment, so the theme was put together in a really complex way, by physically splicing tapes and playing them back at different speeds to get different notes.
It's really impressive and must have taken them ages to do it, but, apparently, every single note in the original theme was individually manually hand-crafted. And I literally mean every single note.

What is really hard to appreciate today is that at the time that the original theme was broadcast, no-one had heard anything like it.
Even today, it still has a timeless weird and "alien" quality to it, but, back then, most people had never heard any "electronic music" at all - this theme was one of the first major electronic themes ever created that the general public had ever heard.
It must have blown their socks off!

Indeed, a mother wrote in to the Radio Times to complain that the theme music was much, much too frightening for children to hear.
As time has gone on, while the theme has gotten more orchestral and impactful - which I also like very much - it's increasingly lost that "alien" feel it originally had.
So, oddly, I would say that the first and the last themes are the best at the same time.
