  • @candycoatedwacker It is not a stock 22RTE truck. We built a 22RE for the turbo.

  • As of yesterday, the truck is turn key running Saab Trionic 5 engine management. Look for updates soon! (Bigger turbo, 550cc injectors, etc!)

  • how bid are your injectors and where'd you get em. by the way badass truck

  • @VALKRYE2009 They are factory injectors from another Toyota, I think they're about 360cc.

  • hey man my buddy is wanting to turbo is 95 and we cannot find a turbo manifold anywhere. i have looked on ebay and all over. i might have to build one but i would rather not. thanks

  • @niggernate1 We pieced it together from mandrel bent stainless steel piping from LC Engineering.

  • hey where did u buy the pod setup on the passenger side of ur dash

  • @jlw19882 I found it in a junk yard. Its called an altimeter. You can find them on eBay occasionally.

  • @merfayy Best grammar award. Kids these days...

  • Comment removed

  • @merfayy Would you like a prize? You're so damn cool I probably shouldn't even ask.

  • did you ever megasquirt it?

  • @crombieposterboy For a rust free, mint condition, turbo toyota pickup with A/C? come on now!

  • @Saabeh It's still an 18 year old truck with an overestimated value. I could buy a used 07+ RAM 1500 with double that cash and it would actually be useful for something.

  • @terracon There is one problem with your theory on his truck being compared to a dodge ram....its a dodge, by the time you drop 3 new motors in it the yota would have already paid for it!

  • @terracon You need to look at this truck as a Mustang with a bed and 4WD. It is a project, a toy, etc etc. It still gets the mulch and gravel for the yard, but my F-350 Dually Powerstroke can do any heavy lifting necessary. Enjoy your cute little Ram.

  • @Saabeh I'd rather have a Hemi then a problematic Navistar.

  • @terracon

Bahahaha. You're a riot. Nothing says reliability like a Hemi that needs to be replaced at 100k miles. Those 7.3 million mile motors sure are un-reliable**

  • @Saabeh replaced at 100k miles? Stop being such a biased fanboy.

  • @mopar43v3r Biased fanboy... I love it. I love all trucks, but I unfortunately don't like gas trucks as much (Toyota is the exception). My friend spun a main bearing in his 2003 Hemi ram. It was replaced using a rebuilt motor purchased from eBay. All of this happened when stuck in some power line trails, and at about 110k miles. The problem with owning a nice/big/loud Ford, is that people immediately assume I am some self-righteous Ford loving prick. Get off my ass, I just wanted a diesel.

  • @Saabeh You love all trucks? Your other posts made it sound like you think Dodge is some worthless pile of garbage, and Ford is the Messiah of trucks.

  • @mopar43v3r I love Dodge trucks. My first choice was a 4 door dodge with a Cummins. I think gas full size trucks are not worth it (at least when you're buying used) You can buy a diesel for a bit more money, but get more reliability and fuel mileage. Also, the moddability is nice with a turbo. Also, seeing as your name is mopar43v3r you'll probably appreciate that I owned and loved a 5.9 Limited Grand Cherokee.

  • @Saabeh Can't argue with you there, I haven't personally owned a diesel (yet) so I haven't experience the advantages of them first hand.

  • @Saabeh i like your setup man! i have a 93 4runner 22re mint with 94K on it! i absolutly love it...but dont like the lack of power that comes with it. how much more hp are you putting out with the turbo and all? do you have aftermarket headers or exaust as well?

  • @Rockymist2 Thanks! We're currently working on running different engine management. But in its current state at 15psi it probably only has about 225hp. But, in a few weeks it should have much more ;)

  • @Saabeh what type of tuning are you using to run 15psi? i am currently adapting an engine harness and ecu from another popular import car to run my 22re in my 85 celica gt-s.. a company makes an rewriteable chip for the ecu that gives it very near full stand alone functionality at a fraction of the cost (like $600 for chip and software).. full control of fuel, timing, and boost tables.. boost by gear.. nitrous control.. launch control (2 step).. anti-lag.. and more.. part of my own 22re project

  • @OMGWTF222 It actually has the factory ECU with the a Vortech FMU and bigger injectors. It is not perfect and does not run its best. It is currently being converted to run on Saab Trionic 5.

  • @crombieposterboy Hmm. This truck isn't leaving the family for a long time.

  • why does it feel like the video is sped up?

  • @TuhdTheTroll Not sure. The audio quality is so poor on this video. It's not sped up however. I will make a new video soon after some more work is finished ;)

  • where can i buy a turbo for my 22re?

  • @duderr0 google LC engineering

  • Is that the sound of the engine, or do you have an aftermarket exhaust?

  • @dylanz333 The exhaust is 2.5" turbo back with a 3" glasspack and tailpipe.

  • Nice, I bet you can't keep that thing on the road in the winter.

  • Next Step: Lockers ;D

you can find it on the V6 or turbo trucks (Y)

  • how much did this setup cost you?

  • @x7afroman7x Just for the parts probably about $2,000.

  • i want one.

  • I'm jealous lol

  • how many pounds is it pushing?

  • @strtvndl3 Anywhere from 5 to 15psi depending on gas prices! I plan to dyno it on April 17th, so stay tuned. Hope to be over 210whp at @18psi.

  • Did you get the Mega Squirt installed yet? I have just completed most of the same upgrades to my 86 22RTE and plan on running a stand alone system soon due to fuel cut. Can Mega Squirt be tuned well enough to get the full potential out of this motor?

  • @mtak212 No megasquirt yet, its running well enough for the demand on it right now. Perhaps in a few months. Megasquirt is virtually limitless in tuning. Do a few google searchs and find out!

  • very nice truck. can you run a turbo setup on a factory 22-RE bottom end? i was told you would have to replace the pistons with lower-compression units to compensate for boost. is that true, or can you safely / reliably run a turbo setup on a factory 22-RE?

  • Its a real catch 22. The stock 22re is a pretty stout motor. You could probably run a turbo on the factory motor at a lower pressure. Problem is the fueling system is pretty average. I still need to figure out what to do with this ECU. I have a feeling it will be going megasquirt.

  • as far as the ECU, look into LC engineering up at mooresville, south carolina. they make an aftermarket computer that eliminates the flapper-MAF and supplies a whole new computer that is completely programmable to whatever mods you add to it (cam, turbo, headers, aftermarket head, etc). capable handling up to 300-400 horsepower setups. they're not cheap (nothing there is) at $700-1400 for a complete setup, but they guarantee 12hp gains across the board on stock setups.

  • Thanks, that's actually where a bunch of parts for this project came from. We're more of a DIY type on this truck however. Megasquirt plug and play kits are only $400 and I have been learning how to tune. We'll see how it goes.

  • what is megasquirt? sounds like a nitrous kit

  • Megasquirt is an open-source style standalone fuel injection and ignition system.

  • you can take off your head and have it machined for a larger combustion to lower compression. lcengineering has that service available.

  • Comment removed

  • I actually havent turboed mine yet. i have a 22re running na with a lc street head/cam and the dual timing chain conversion. im not sure how much needs to be removed from the combustion chamber but thats a question lc will answer easily actually they might talk you into having them do it for some overly expensive charge

  • or just tell your local shop you want a compression ratio of 8.5 to 1. thats what 22re's all turbo gas engines want. then they can figure how much needs to be removed hopefully.

  • larger combustion? lol

you can have it machined to increase compression ratio

  • bad turbo were did u git it from

  • how much was the injectors and where did you get them form......how do they do

  • The injectors were from a place online, I don't remember. They do fine, but the truck needs to be tuned for it.

  • is that instrument cluster on top of the dash factory.

  • It was factory in Japan, search google for toyota altimeter. Got mine for $5 from the junkyard. :)

  • what exhaust setup do you have from the turbo to the tail pipe it sounds good

  • Its 2.5" mandrel bent downpipe to a glasspack and a 3" tail section.

  • that would be a nice engine for a corolla or a mk II supra

  • Sick man, I can't wait to see some 1/4 mile numbers haha. You should turn it into a 4wd Prerunner, that'd be sick, pretty much what I hope to do when my I redo my engine. I got a 90 4x4 Pickup same thing as yours but with 343xxx km on it. Too afraid to turbo that engine though, it burns oil and I think it's losing compression haha.

  • It seems to be a 4WD!!! Look closely at second 3. Nice truck. Plus, it would seem benefited from an automatic locking differential. In this video I can only see one tire loosing traction......so,

  • hilarious man

    i like it!

    nice video editting aswell lol

  • are you a member of any forum?

  • I was part of Toyota Nation and ih8mud but I have not been on there in ages.

  • Awesome! How much boost are you running?

  • About 13-15. Running into some issues with running poorly now, I think the truck is going to get megasquirt soon.

  • do it

  • i want your inclinometer.

  • my 3rz goes just as hard in 1st thats about it

  • what track numbers are you running and what did you run on a dyno if you have done one

  • Have not done either. The truck was just about finished this winter so stay tuned.

  • Neat to see it's a 4WD

    22RE owner here!

  • thats all u did was a saab 900 turbo, injectors and hommade plumbing? wow, make it sound easy why dont ya!! makes me wana turbo my truck, gota do valve seals first tho :( anyway nice rig man

  • Haha, not quite.

Rebuilt engine with low comp pistons, LC head, rebuilt T3, stainless equal length header, injectors, FMU, big intercooler, etc...

  • Nice..........

  • alrite i think i will need to run and fmu, at the very least if i hope to get this thing working right.. get back to me with the ratio.. cuz i think i will need a similar ratio.. and are you running stock compressions ratio pistons as well?

  • Nope, they are LC engineering's low comp turbo pistons.

  • what size of injectors are you using... what kind of waste gate.. and what ratio is your FMU.. i have a rebuilt 22re 1995 intake manifold... i have like a junk yard worth of toyota parts.. have found two yellow top 7mge injector 300 er soo cc per min, just need 2 more.. and should be able to slap on my t3/t4 its off a diesil bus but it works haha.. needs figure out so way of hooking up my egr valve as a waste gate got any ideas

  • 360cc from some other Toyota, I forget the FMU ratio I'll have to check. Wastegate is the stock internal gate from a 1988 Saab 900.

    Sounds like fun!

  • 4wd?

  • Yes.

  • did you buy the set up that your runing in a kit or you build your own

  • Home built. Bought small stainless piping to make the header, welded it with a MIG. The turbo is from a Saab 900 and was rebuilt and tweaked by g-pop shop, bigger injectors from another Toyota etc. It was all pieced together.

  • thank you i have been looking into turbo my 93. are you still running a afm or did you go with a map sensor? what about the ecu is it stock? if so how much boost are you running? sorry one more question did you start with a 22re or 22rte thank any more info would be great

  • Still running mass airflow unfortunately. The ECU is stock and the truck runs 15psi no problem. Sometimes the idle is a little funky but one step at a time. The motor was a 230k mile 22re and we rebuilt it using LC engineering stuff.

  • I like how the guy 2 comments ago talked about beer and has a gun reference in his username. Typical American

  • It wasn't a typical r-tard you tube comment, he just doesn't understand how little was spent on this project.

  • some people don't want that Chevy shit in there rig....and I don't blame him.

If people would learn to change the timing chains and replace them w/ the steel ones, those motors would last forever. And you wouldn't be saying "put a Chevy motor in it"

  • i dont get it for all of that money you put into that 22-RTE you could put a 4.3 and got 200+ hp and saved a ton of beer money.anyway sweet motor man!

  • You can turbo a 22re pretty cheap, or just buy a complete motor turbo'd already. I've seen them for around $200-300 for turbo kits or complete engines from another vehicle. Plus you can still get 4 banger mileage.

  • Where at?? Im really interested in turbocharging a 22r

  • yes where is a kit thats $200-300?

  • Check any enthusiast sites for Toyota pickups or Celica's, low rider mini truck guys. Just look around, I'm talking about used kits. I just saw one a few months ago for $200 with almost everything needed to turbo a stock 22re. Plus screw putting in a 4.3, I'd rather put in a 3rz 2.7 and get the output up to or even past 200hp and still get better mileage than a 4.3. Save at the pump, more money for mods.

  • Nice truck :D

  • nice yota sounds good my buddy anthony got one i put on her under toyota burnouts(its the red one with the snorkle and 31's) its a nice little burnout

  • how much boost is safe on a stock internal 22re i am wanting to do it if have done a honda before but i cant find any info on 22re.

  • Did you have to change your wiring harness and computer when you put the turbo on the 22re

  • Stock ECU and wiring harness with bigger injectors and a Vortech FMU.

  • Thats pretty badass, what kind of mileage are you getting?

  • Thanks, not sure on the mileage because it is still being worked out.
