You da man! I have an 8 gal micro reef that is booming with life w/o any unsual probs. The people at my LFS plus others all said that it was a bad idea, but after much research and some TLC my micro reef tank has been much more than a success like yours!
Three things:
1. frequent water changes (weekly)
2. filtered carbon
3. supplemented elements (i.e. marine calcium, iodide, and molyb & strontium)

nice tank. and the coral at the top looks like star polyps, kinda hard to tell looks blurry even in hq :P good job on tank.
