The more I listen to this I think that the musician did a good Job..I guess I am admitting that my first view on the situation was wrong..He was playing that Keyboard.
As a musician i know for a fact it was more about her trying to show off then it was about the musician playing badly which he wasn't. Playing for her doing all those flips is not easy and smart musicians know how to do what he did and rest on a chord and wait on her to come back. she better be careful doing that God will snatch away that anointing and she'll be left with nothing but talent and that's a fate worse than death

The musician did pretty well. I've been studying this clip and I can hear kim spelling out the chords with her voice and her runs to get the sound she wanted. I still don't get what she wanted during the part right before "If you'd wait on me we'd be together"
About the monitor...this is a call to the sound man/women. Don´t you think? Not the piano player. He plays great!! And follow her really good! But I think that all she want´s is balance so she can hear her self. I Just my humble opinion.
To end this debate, She had 2 intentionally sing the chords & tried 2 help him, but he couldn't hear the chords, & didn't even play the song straight. A mature musician rule: when in doubt stick to the original chords or don't play at all.There was no need 2 try & force anything, he had his chance. Kim did the right thing by picking up on it & correcting it.

musicians must watch hand signals when a singer in on the mic because a singer can not break in the song and say cut the music. she was respectful n used a common hand signal that the musician knows
Kim is a wonderful vocalist and her gift is very VERY RARE!!!. I agree half and half with both comments because Im a singer and musician as well. depending on the singer , becuz all singers dont sing as detailed as others.its sometimes easier to do what that particular musician was doing here, but also in being a musician and knowing how KIM BURRELL sings, you have to be mindful that she is a very detailed singer and she uses her runs to kind of direct the musicians to where she is going.

She is a beast organist and keyboardist so its certain things she wants to hear and doesnt. Any standard musician knows that when a singer like Kim is singing, you don't try to impress her with your chords (not saying he was I'm just speaking in general so the next musician won't do that the next time). You have to play behind him/her not in front of.

ha I don't care what yall say I love Kim but the problem is the musician was GOOD...and had hung more than tough with the "Highly Exalted" Kim Burrell and that's a No NO. From 3:55 to 4:20 was the final straw...he handled the progressions too well...she was probably like "Humpf...no one keeps up with me" and she found, as she always does, a abstract run and threw off the musician...and got her moment to embarrass them. This isn't rehearsal Kim and not the place to do all this confrontation.

wow....Kim is one of the few singers who can run ALL through a song and you still not feel that she is operating in her own flesh...She ministers through the runs. She is AWESOME and after having a conversation with her once, you can FEEl that she REALLY means what she sings about. I love her and her spirit!

People always say you are being mean or cocky when you walk confidently in the annointing of God. They asked who Jesus thought he was when he was about his Father's business. I didnt see anything mean about her instruction. Musicians are to ACCOMPANY the vocalist not lead them. The musician doesnt know where God is leading her to go so to play ahead of her is a distraction more than a help.
At the risk of getting cut for defending the musician, Kim is not the easiest person to try and follow. She tends to ad-lib A LOT. And although it sounds wonderful, ushers the spirit in, and sets the atmosphere for worship I would never want to play for her lol.

Hello, To Answer Your question: Indeed you are so correct! I want to stress the importance of excellence in Music Ministry. Just because you are in Music Ministry doing something that someone asked you to do DOES NOT mean you are necessarily anointed to do it! We must Study our crafts! It's a shame that people who aren't "staying in their lane" are allowed to operate in disobedience and cause a hinderance/distraction within the Music Ministry.
I was recently told by "leaders" & even a certain person on this particular youtube page ( we won't call any names) that the Music Ministry shouldn't be concerned... with talent. They believe that if the heart of the person is right, then the annointing will make them sound better. I believe that a person MUST be anointed, gifted, & understand the importance of excellence in order to operate EFFECTIVELY in the Music Ministry, or ministry period.

When she asked for "no keys in" her monitor, she started singing better.
I see what she does...she sets things up, musically then expects the musicians' ear to work without competing with her vocals. Kim Burrell is a gospel vocal performer & if it's not a full band, she can lead effectively without someone working their chops over her. It wasn't being mean.
Love the video. Kim is a dynamic singer and can do some things out of the ordinary. However none of that excuses her attitude that she has when a musician can't follow all that movement. If you know you are going to embellish the melodic line so dramatically, bring your own musician or play for yourself.
I was at this concert and in particular with Kim those musicians run to try and play for her and if you arent able to keep up with her don't get on the keys.. Everyone who plays in Houston knows what she expects so if you don't have it or potentially know where she is going sit on the pews with everyone else. Kim is beastly and brought the word that night through song.. Luv Ya Kim and keep up the ministry.

Either play yourself, bring your own keyboardist that has ESP, or come EARLY to practice with the house keyboardist who is gracious enough and honored, probably, to play for you. I don't think Kim should go secular. This isn't about winning souls to Christ, this is about understanding the tricks of the devil. See the secular world needs people who is most influential in church to endorse the things that they do, in order to penetrate the church. I agree as well! We as church folk give satan way more power then he has! He has power of influence, but he has to get approval from God. Gods got it all under control, now I will say, one would have to be secure in their walk to pursue a secular career! Time will tell all, but one thing we have to do, is NOT judge, but pray for. Not condemn, but lift up those who we are concerned about. Christians needs to know how to love, i/e. be Christ Like.
She has done a lot of jazz gigs, she's a featured vocalist on George Clinton's new album, she has (supposedly) a VH1 reality show coming out, and a inspirational album in the works. Some people now think she is becoming too secular. I agree with WilbGr8...she's reaching the highways and the bi-ways. Every time I hear her she lets the Lord use her.

Kim is a wonderful vocalist and her gift is very VERY RARE!!!. I agree half and half with both comments because Im a singer and musician as well. depending on the singer , becuz all singers dont sing as detailed as others.its sometimes easier to do what that particular musician was doing here, but also in being a musician and knowing how KIM BURRELL sings, you have to be mindful that she is a very detailed singer and she uses her runs to kind of direct the musicians to where she is going.

She is a beast organist and keyboardist so its certain things she wants to hear and doesnt. Any standard musician knows that when a singer like Kim is singing, you don't try to impress her with your chords (not saying he was I'm just speaking in general so the next musician won't do that the next time). You have to play behind him/her not in front of.

ha I don't care what yall say I love Kim but the problem is the musician was GOOD...and had hung more than tough with the "Highly Exalted" Kim Burrell and that's a No NO. From 3:55 to 4:20 was the final straw...he handled the progressions too well...she was probably like "Humpf...no one keeps up with me" and she found, as she always does, a abstract run and threw off the musician...and got her moment to embarrass them. This isn't rehearsal Kim and not the place to do all this confrontation.

wow....Kim is one of the few singers who can run ALL through a song and you still not feel that she is operating in her own flesh...She ministers through the runs. She is AWESOME and after having a conversation with her once, you can FEEl that she REALLY means what she sings about. I love her and her spirit!

People always say you are being mean or cocky when you walk confidently in the annointing of God. They asked who Jesus thought he was when he was about his Father's business. I didnt see anything mean about her instruction. Musicians are to ACCOMPANY the vocalist not lead them. The musician doesnt know where God is leading her to go so to play ahead of her is a distraction more than a help.

At the risk of getting cut for defending the musician, Kim is not the easiest person to try and follow. She tends to ad-lib A LOT. And although it sounds wonderful, ushers the spirit in, and sets the atmosphere for worship I would never want to play for her lol.

They believe that if the heart of the person is right, then the annointing will make them sound better. This is done so that the musician doesn't distract the singer while he or she is caught up in the spirit or a moment of improvisation. Kim was not rude; she was actually doing the musician a favor. Don't ever forget, the musician's role is to help the singer, and sometimes that means not to play at all."

This is a excellent clip of Kim ministering through music. Its also an excellent clip of how musicians can let their abilities overpower the song, but in the same breath, the musician playing is very talented. The vocalist is leading not the keys. Be Blessed of the Most High. :)

When she asked for "no keys in" her monitor, she started singing better.
I see what she does...she sets things up, musically then expects the musicians' ear to work without competing with her vocals. Kim Burrell is a gospel vocal performer & if it's not a full band, she can lead effectively without someone working their chops over her. It wasn't being mean.

Love the video. Kim is a dynamic singer and can do some things out of the ordinary. However none of that excuses her attitude that she has when a musician can't follow all that movement. If you know you are going to embellish the melodic line so dramatically, bring your own musician or play for yourself.

I was at this concert and in particular with Kim those musicians run to try and play for her and if you arent able to keep up with her don't get on the keys.. Everyone who plays in Houston knows what she expects so if you don't have it or potentially know where she is going sit on the pews with everyone else. Kim is beastly and brought the word that night through song.. Luv Ya Kim and keep up the ministry.

Either play yourself, bring your own keyboardist that has ESP, or come EARLY to practice with the house keyboardist who is gracious enough and honored, probably, to play for you. She needs better management REAL TALK! All that stuff should be worked out prior to before she sings. i remember once her track started skipping... KIMMMMM.... If I hadn't thrown somethin at you by the 6-minute mark, I SURELY would have thrown somethin at 7:01-7:05!!!! O MY GOODNESS!!!!! Like 4 real, WHO DOES THAT??? ONLY Kim Burrell!!! And them hand gestures leadin up to it when she ball them fists up, put em on her side & move em up n down LOL u ALWAYS know when Kim bout 2 act a NUT. I don't think Kim should go secular. This isn't about winning souls to Christ, this is about understanding the tricks of the devil. See the secular world needs people who is most influential in church to endorse the things that they do, in order to penetrate the church. There is a market within the Christian community that doesn't watch VH1, but they might watch now if Kim Burrell is on there. We have to be aware of Satan devices.

@virtuouswoman908 Not saying that im for her going secular..but the bible says, sheep be got sheep, and if u are concrete and secure in your faith,theres no reason why not go to the secualr world and win souls for christ, thats what we are here for.

When a person has experienced the forgiveness of his sins, he is then able to witness or give testimony to the salvation that is mentioned in Ephesians 4:11, but it puts you in the same place as those who were witnesses in the early church. They said, "For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard" (Acts 4:20). You are able to witness about Jesus, for you have met Him personally.

@virtuouswoman908 Its time for us church folk stop stayin in the church tryin to hold on to Jesus just for our selves. There are souls out there to win over to Christ. This is what we are here for. Not everything is a SATAN's DEVICE...Sometime, God can open DOORs in the secular world for his vessels to win souls.. the clark sisters are a prime example..

I agree as well! We as church folk give satan way more power then he has! He has power of influence, but he has to get approval from God. Gods got it all under control, now I will say, one would have to be secure in their walk to pursue a secular career! Time will tell all, but one thing we have to do, is NOT judge, but pray for. Not condemn, but lift up those who we are concerned about. Christians needs to know how to love, i/e. be Christ Like.

She has done a lot of jazz gigs, she's a featured vocalist on George Clinton's new album, she has (supposedly) a VH1 reality show coming out, and a inspirational album in the works. Some people now think she is becoming too secular. I agree with WilbGr8...she's reaching the highways and the bi-ways. Every time I hear her she lets the Lord use her.

I don't know abut her being secular ever lol,that's a lie straight form the PIT! Kim wouldn't ruin all that God has blessed her with to go secular.
