Why would anyone care one way or the other what you do with any moment of your time? That is your decision. You possess free will; exercise it as you wish.
One should find a central purpose in their life, and then model their life around that. I think you should do everything you can to achieve that goal.
"Give it up. The secret you are trying to solve involves something greater-much greater-than the invention of a motor run by atmospheric electricity. There is only one helpful suggestion that I can give you: By the essence and nature of existence, contradictions cannot exist. If you find it inconceivable that an invention of genius should be abandoned among ruins, and that a philosopher should wish to work in a diner-check your premises. You will find one of them is wrong."
NOOOOOOO!!!! DONT GO TO A SANDWICH SHOP!!!! I want you to be fixing up that pathetic website of urs. Oh and theres no way in hell I'm gonna send u a thousand dollars :-P
Why don't you become a private tutor rather then try to start a home school. You could surely get back into college and get the certifications to be a school teacher with that experience.
I know a doctor who needed 50K to start a new school for students who had been kicked out of public schools. When he went to a foundation to ask for the money the first question he was asked was what makes this school different from any other. How would you answer that?
If you find that you ultimately do have to get a job in order to make ends meet, you might consider a nightwatchman position. Usually you'd need only make a few regular rounds as scheduled but for the rest of the shift would be left alone...good for reading/studying. Construction sites, apartments, and malls usually have them. Typically simple work though the pay is pretty low (for the lower risk jobs of course).
oh and I almost forgot...I'll take a #4 with no mayo and a large coke ;-)
Itd be cool if a tutoring type school or even a private school offered homeschooled students classes. For example, your child could take Russian History for 1.5 hrs 2x / wk and Geometry 1.5 hrs 2x / wk.
Do private schools offer such services? Also, fledgling private-school-wannabes could work toward fulltime regular enrollments with this plan.
Maybe you should look at schooling ideas put forward by entrepreneurs and not just look at your academic beliefs.
I'd like to see a supplementary type school. I homeschooled my daughter for several mths. I think theres a lot of people that would like to split homeschooling and private schooling. The kids want to be around their friends more. They also like to vary the curriculum and the teacher. :)
So if someone homeschools because they cant fully afford private schools, they can homeschool part of the time and then let them go to a private school or tutoring school half the time or whatever fraction.
Crop, have you seen a decline in donations since the economic crisis grows? I know I havent been donating, though I'd like too. I had to buy some gold and silver. If things start changing for the good, I plan to donate my small amounts here and there.
Hey MrCropper, Don't listen to negativism from uneducated people. Those people don't want to be free period. Our government don't want us to learn anything. Please teach us on Youtube. I want to learn new stuff and think for myself. I want to be informed and to be a great critical thinker like you. I am a new fan of yours, and I do like your teachings, Thanks for educating me on ancient Greece. I will be watching part 2 through 5 today. ALoha

You're not a very good salesman, all you've ever proven to be is a self-important, pretentious "objectivist" fundamentalist with decisive message of selfishness preached from the podium of YouTube. I mean congratulations, you listen to Voltaire. We should worship you.
Why should we trust you with our donations when you act so odd and try to put us on a moral crisis guilt trip when somebody suggests you should get a job? How do we know you need it and are using it for school purposes?
Then don't give him money, it's that simple. I don't see him guilt tripping anybody as you say, I'm not sure where you got that from. Maybe you should pay attention when you watch videos.
"... moral crisis guilt trip when somebody suggests you should get a job?"
What, you can't take Cropper's social pressure? If he's not a good salesman, as you say, why do you feel the need to make a comment? I'd say you probably envy Cropper, you probably never made anything of yourself like he has.
"I can't give it up! I can't!" "What?" she whispered. "You." "Why should—" "And everything." "Why should you give it up?" "Dagny! Help me to remain. To refuse. Even though he's right!" She asked evenly, "To refuse what, Francisco?" He did not answer, only pressed his face harder against her. ... He moaned, "It's right, but it's so hard to do! Oh God, it's so hard!"
"She rose, paid her bill, and said, "Thank you, Dr. Akston. I will not molest you with tricks or pleas. I will not hire detectives. But I think I should tell you that I will not give up. I must find the inventor of that motor. I will find him."
"Not until the day when he chooses to find you - as he will."
* They just closed the Lennox Foundry - no bailout there, Mr.grantsinmypants2...I'll recommend your name for this years list - circle the month of June on your agenda. *
Perhaps we should all be petitioning our government(s) to raise taxes to provide better schooling to ALL the children. You do make a very strong argument about the value of education.
Good schooling is NOT a matter of getting more funding for schools. What matter is HOW you teach and government schools will never fix that no matter how much money you throw at it.
Members of the community DO have a say in what is taught in public schools. As talented as Mr. Cropper is as a teacher, I doubt we have enough people like Mr. Cropper to eliminate the public school system. And although there may be Mr. Cropper's for a few fortunate children, I'd suggest that it's important for us to do all we can for ALL children, including those less fortunate, and don't have a Mr. Cropper available to them. What's more, I'm sure there are some Mr. Cropper's in public schools.
Yeah, well... I asked for it. I know the political, and socioeconomic sentiments of most of Mr. Cropper's viewers. If I didn't expect responses like this, I certainly should have.
Well let's see, do you make a better taco than Hugh Akston's burger at the Akston diner? That burger sounded good....Or maybe this summer if I happen to be driving through Utah (which I might) would you make me an awesome taco?
Haha just kidding. Of course I'd rather you get to spend your spare time philosophizing.
As has happened historically, the investment in the talents of man requires some patronage. You people should feel proud that you have enough wealth to sponsor someone like Mr. Cropper rather than question its obvious efficacy.
Why would anyone care one way or the other what you do with any moment of your time? That is your decision. You possess free will; exercise it as you wish.

I'm taking the longterm view - poverty for now, but later I can write books and essays about my experience opening a private school.
