I need some help with a roland g6 when I record phrases on a studio mode, live or single i save it after I record and go to a different mode it changes the hole sounds on the phrasesl. How can I keep the sounds I record on the phrases? some help would be apreciated please.
@ismar64 The Fantom if you don't save your live or studio set, the Fantom will forget the patches you are using for your song. If you are using studio mode to record, then stay in studio mode, and save your set every now and then if you are changing patches.
I no longer own this keyboard, head over to the facebook Fantom G group, run by the awesome JesseJ, he is awesome with the Fantom!
@ArmageddonWillStrike The problem is you are ignorant about the instruments, especially when you start spouting garbage such as Yamaha being better than Roland.
@HTHAMMACK1 Ignorant? Haha, this is a two way street, my friend. For one, I presented my personal opinion here. Which happens to be based on years of experience, ranging from music theory to acoustic engineering. In my opinion, my opinion is resting on quite a bit of evidence. So don't go calling me ignorant, you hypocritical nonsense spewer.
What's your opinion based on? I'm quite interested to know.
Moron. That's like saying that apples are much better than oranges- and you'll stick with them. Here's a tip: Stick with your moronic hairspray guns, Mr. 21-Year Old music expert.
@ArmageddonWillStrike The reason you should buy the Roland is not because of the sounds... the difference in sounds is really not that important. What IS important though is that the Roland G8's keyboard plays better than any other digital keyboard I've ever played/tested! Man, I love that keys, weighted with real hammers, plays like a grand piano, absolutely lovely! Actually, because of those keys I will buy the G8 instead of for example the Motif.
@TheConfuter That's YOUR opinion. To me - no matter how bad the keys are, a keyboard with good sounds will always be a better choice. I mean - what if the Roland Fantom had the sounds of a Casio 99$ keyboard?! And it isn't like the Roland keys completely blow the Yamaha ones out of the water. I mean, sure, they feel better - I've played both instruments. However, the Motif in my opinion has better sounds. At that point, choosing better sounds over better keys...I'm going with Yamaha.
@ArmageddonWillStrike I love the Fantoms sounds, especially the strings and acoustic pianos. and coming from a piano background, not a beatmaker/simple keyboard player I can say the keys on the fantom feel awesome compared to alot of other boards.
@ArmageddonWillStrike right although the first 'decent' keyboard I owned was the yamaha ypg-625 which sounded pretty good too and had weighted keys. Im just biased to using heavy keys because I have heavy hands. honestly I haven't played on the motif enough to make a full judgement on it and they all sound good no matter which one you pick. Really I think it boils down to which specific features you want more. I like the fantom's mouse capability.
@ArmageddonWillStrike i have a roland fantom g8, korg triton, yamaha psr9000, technics kn6000 and a casio mz2000...all this keyboards are very good but korg is good with instrumental and vocal sounds...the fantom g is REALLY good with the pianos and yamaha its good for synths , thats my honest opinion for comparing keyboards , but even with my roland fantom g8...korg oasys always been my dream
@ArmageddonWillStrike i have a roland fantom g8, korg triton, yamaha psr9000, technics kn6000 and a casio mz2000...all this keyboards are very good but korg is good with instrumental and vocal sounds...the fantom g is REALLY good with the pianos and yamaha its good for synths , thats my honest opinion for comparing keyboards , but even with my roland fantom g8...korg oasys always been my dream but the korg m3 offers almost the same like korg OASYS
@lordmusician I'd ask you to compare keyboard of the same level...the PSR S9000 is completely different than the Fantom and Triton. I don't think it's fair to compare those...like comparing a Ford Focus and a Ferrari.
But whatever works for you! I'm not one to say you are wrong.
@ArmageddonWillStrike i believe you havent read carefully what i've wrote my friend!, i just mentioned the keyboards i have and based on what all the synths i've played.. i compared the brand, like korg is good for some things..and roland is good for others, like yamaha also..thats what i said
@lordmusician You are comparing a mid-level Yamaha keyboard to a top-of-the-line Roland keyboard. It doesn't make much sense to me. You are basing the brand, Yamaha, off the keyboard, when you don't have an accurate and full idea of what the brand is capable of.
Of course Roland is going to be better than Yamaha when you make this comparison. Until you play similar keyboards - like the Motif instead of the PSR - you are not credible to make a comparison. In my opinion.
@ArmageddonWillStrike gosh how cant you understand what ive wrote??? lol, i just mentioned the keyboards i have , then i said comparing to the brands.....not models of keyboards...brands such as roland ,yamaha, korg....if you put ALL THE BEST of them (do you understand now????) rolanbd is good in pianos...so the BEST OF ROLAND fantom g will be best in pianos...yamaha good for other things such as synths......motiff this case.......korg oasys or m3 if you like strings or orchestral sounds...
@ArmageddonWillStrike do you understand now what i mean?...i have played ALL the keyboards of the brands..but what i have is a yamaha psr....i didnt compare a psr with a korg triton or others..i just said I HAVE THIS KEYBOARDS , but i understand your point, but it wasnt what i said, so im very likely to compare the keyboards with the brands since i have played them my friend
@lordmusician 1) Stop calling me your friend. 2) I highly doubt you have played every keyboard from those brands. 3) If I were you, I would stop replying to me.
@ArmageddonWillStrike lolol i dont care if you believe me or not, but that i have played them all, i have, because i love keyboards, and you cant tell me what to do lololol, i have my right to express my opinion as many times as i want like anyone else, if you dont like ..then stop commenting lol
It seems that alot of 88 keyed keyboards have weighted keys. Are the ones on the Fantom any good? I've used an older Roland and found the weighted keys to be too heavy and uncomfortable to play...
@Segrare The Fantom G keys are known as some of the best in the market. I came from a Nord Stage 88, and the G keys absolutely blew it away.
When I bought the G I tried a Motif XS8 and a Korg M3 88, and honestly I couldn't ever play either of them after the keys on the G. Truth be told I've been contemplating selling the G to get an 88 key controller and use some simpler modules, as the G is really more than I need with what I do now, but the keys are the only thing that are stopping me!
@LewisFtw I'm almost positive that the Nord Stage 88 was the one I played the other day, the keys on that felt great. So, if you say the Fantom G has better keys, I'm going to take your word for it. You just convinced me to get the G8 over the G7, thanks for your reply.
I was just going to delete this, but I'm in a good mood, and I like feeding the kids.

I know I keep saying I've been busy, to be totally honest I've been more lazy than busy, but I really do intend to make some more videos for all you guys soon.
Good stuff. Nice to finally see a Fantom video where someone does some power metal. I play the same style as you (probably not as well), but I plays keys9/guitar in a power metal band. Is the Fantom G pretty good for that style then? I was either thinking about one of these or a Korg M3. Not sure which one is better. I've always liked Roland's sound engines the best. Currently use a Korg Triton (it is nice) and a Roland AX Synth. Should I invest in a Fantom in your opinion?
For that sort of music the Fantom is fantastic. It often requires a broad palette of sounds, all the way through the orchestra to synth leads, choirs and effects, all of which are more than catered for out of the box. Add the phenomenal sampling power and you really can't go wrong. After all the sounds, it's important to be able to utilize them all well on stage, again, the Fantom's live mode simply cannot be beaten. For live performance, it's simply incredible.
I'm not sure what you're asking with regards to recording guitars through MIDI...
As far as connecting mics, the Fantom G only has a preamp for one condenser mic. If you had an external mixer you could use the outputs to the Fantoms paired inputs, giving stereo recording.

Man, incredible sintethyzer, I don't how to write it xD
Also, I checked out your band, awesome! Really, incredible, I don't usually like symphonic power metal, just some few musics, very few, actually. But your band is awesome, congrats! Haha!
wheres the beat at? seems like it would be really sick. also can you like use the sounds that are in the fantom g in logic? lik if i get a fantom i wanna know if i could use the fantom sounds in logic..
Well of course you could get a second hand one cheaper. I'm not a Roland spokes person :P I only know the prices as well as the next guy. All I can suggest is for you to shop around on the internet if you want it cheapest.
Thanks for breaking this down so we can see how you put it all together. You did a great job with it. Love the combination of sounds you used and the balance and blend of sounds. Keep up the great work!
This queston is too hard for me to answer, as I don't know you or what you do.
All I can suggest is that you go and try all of them and make your decision based on which works best for you.
The Fantom needs some bugs fixing, definitely, and unfortunately Roland support is AWFUL. But, for me these bugs are not an issue, as they are in features which I do not use - Such as sequencing.
What are the best $300-500 monitors for the G8? I want to really feel the bass, do i nd a subwoofer? Are Marshall 1960 cabs appropriate, do i use the 100 watt head? Thx

Also the Fantom G8 has smooth transitions with no effects tails like others do.
Tons of advantages. The ARX sounds are out of this world too including piano
sounds. You must know Roland makes the CP1, so who know sound.

I think the Fantom G is the best - for what I do.

Never heard of it mate, I guess in a world with more songs than people it's hard to write something completely original.
I'm sure that someone could find something you've written that sounds the same as one of the billions of songs in the world!
At least we're trying.

I know that the G8 is very expensiv! How much is it??

I paid £2199, which I think equates to about $3500-3800, but that's not accounting for the actual price difference in the US.

Before registering, withdraw the microphone of the table!
So you avoid that the vibration of the piece of furniture is registered.
Great machine. Thank you.

The mic is on my video camera, I should have put the tripod on the floor but I couldn't get a good position like that.
I'll try it somewhere else if I do another video.

Hey great work on the song =)
just a couple of quick questions I'd like to ask
just listened to your song on soundclick, did you record the guitar parts into the G8?
also I am thinking of buying either a G8 or an X8 but can't decide, which one do you think is best?
Thanks
Nate

The guitars were recorded DI to my Edirol UA101, through Guitar Rig 3, and into Logic Pro.
I've not used the X, head over to Roland Clan forums, there's a lot of info there!

Well, considering that the G8 is Roland's upgrade from X8, I would think that the G8 is better! But both would be good, I presume!

It was really interesting and inspiring to see how you built your live set! Great stuff! I hope you make a lot more of these.. :)
Btw the G8 looks huge, I only have the G6 than can be actually (barely) fit in a car! :D.

Thanks!
If I receive more feedback like this I'll definitely put up some more videos.
Haha it is a beast of a board, SO heavy.
But I don't transport it a lot, and I can't live without the weighted keys anymore!
