  • Who else can really rap on a commerical bruh ?? ...

    Nobody only Jay

  • u have to be making major sales while abandoning ur original self and style to be a sell out. even tho jay elec is signed, he has not done this. they dont even play his music on air regardless of its age. they'll act like good rappers and truth speakers can get signed then never play ANYTHING. idgaf if his songs are old, the world needs to hear them regardless. jay elec = NEVER SOLD OUT

  • lol u just wouldnt think he the type of dude to do an ad like this. cool tho

  • My Niggaa is a PROPHET!!!!

  • REMINDS ME OF HOW KANYE HAD HIS PEPSI COMMERCIAL B4 HIS 1ST ALBUM DROPPED...I like Jay Elec's PAST music, I guess we'll have to see if he sold out when that album drops...

  • I've been a Jay Electronica fan for a long time. Not to sound like I'm hating or saying he bit BIG's style, but he sounds just like Biggie Smalls at 1:16 to 1:25 , especially from 1:20 - 1:25

  • When he raps it's like he's speaking my language.

  • People should be happy mountain dew got a REAL ASS RAPPER to rhyme about real shit in a commercial instead of having something generic

  • They should have used the beat that went with the lyrics. Loved the beat from "The Announcement".

  • MC KILLA'S, MILK & CEREAL - GET IT , FORGET IT -- PURE CLASSIC

  • not bad not bad!!

  • wow yall petty

  • Look i dont get why people are so fuckin ignorant and retarded about the music industry now a days.. This dude Jay Elec is finally getting recognition for his talent and he deserves it! He hasnt changed his style of rhyming ever since he got signed to Roc Nation and to call him a "Devil worshiper" or a "sell out" just because hes getting attention is RETARDED! If your a REAL fan of Jay Elec then you would still listen to his music instead of getting mad, because hes finally getting his music out

  • @AyoBingo Why do you think he all of the sudden got famous when he got signed to Roc Nation? Hmmm...

  • @AyoBingo I agree

  • I wonder if these people realize that he raps about The five percent nation?

  • @thepurpledragon5 Lol, I did. I mean, he mentions it on his most popular song, Exhibit C.

  • HE BIT MF DOOM'S STYLE . DOOM IS BEST

  • It's good thing... and a bad thing. Jay will more than likely become more famouse than before. And people will think they understand his lyrics and all, but most won't know how actually amazin' he is hahaha.

  • oh my god, he's fuckin amazin'

  • why?

  • How many of these foolish men from communities like mine, keep talking the same shit.Really trying extra hard to confuse BLK youth like its cool to do,I would put anything on the fact that these fools don't fully know what they are saying.Take a good look at this old ass agent as soon as he gets the spotlight he wants you to believe he's on some next level shit according to a teaching that has held everyone that looks like him captive.Youngsters stop taking on Billy's problems, let them do them.

  • It must be good to be stuck in the devils asshole , working 4 the CIA.

  • WTF? Pushing their agenda through us. Satanic ritual on stage he just said it. Why u have to get ur finger pricked for .? Who u sell ur soul 2? Jay Z? Bastard looking like an old Fag. Anyways, mountain dew commercial? why he singing this crap on a mt.dew commercial . BIATCH!!!!!!!

  • "we not illuminati but our eyes on the money" sicckkkkk!!

  • @bamktbam14 believe it or not a rapper called possessed freestyled(off the top of the head) a line to the same effect in a battle against thesaurus

  • @nameless12345 What do you mean? lolz

  • Thumbs up if you knew Jay Electronica from the Boondocks TV show music.

  • @OriginalZach What did he do in Boondocks?

  • As much as I love Jay electronica he's become somewhat of a hypocrite. First he blamed rappers for being in the illiminati but joins roc nation, then he raps about the game being too commercialised yet he's starring in a soft drink advert? I really hope Jay doesn't switch his style caus personally I believe he's the next big thing and is what rap needs right now.

  • @H1TMAN9 very good points i too was thinking the roc nation thing was odd but didt even clock on to the commercial side of things.

  • @H1TMAN9 some time u gotta use their own outlets against them. if u pay attention, he's used this commercial to spit knowledge not some commercial trash...

  • @H1TMAN9

    I feel the same way.

  • get it?? forget it.

  • dude what the fuuuuuuuuuuuck is this god dammit

  • Whats the name of the song ?

  • THIS ISNT THE FULL VERSION GUYS

TYPE IN JAY ELECTRONICA - THE ANNOUNCEMENT

  • so much better with my speaker off

  • "THE BLACK GODS MINGLED A BIT, THEN THE FINGERS GOT PRICKED, THEN THE SINGLE GOT PICKED" is that some secret society shit, i hope not

  • @MRTRAPAZOID cmon, he's under Jay-Z's wing as some type of apprentice. Its a wrap for who he thought blazing the trail. Or maybe its infiltration.

  • don't forget, KRS-ONE did a sprite commercial back in day, but he's still true hip hop. so, don't judge Jay Electronica on this move. it's paycheck and obviously, some of you don't have kids and bills to worry about. you do what you gotta do to make ends meet and it's always a bunch of "judgmentals" online who want to point the finger instead opening a hand and saying "here's a better solution".

where's your solution if this is a "real" problem?.

  • jay is sick....but him doing a straight up commercial is bobo. he could've just let them use a song of his and still get that cash; but instead he's shilling for them and then linking mountain dew with hip hop. get it straight: mountain dew don't give two shits about hip hop.

  • @avalanchesoul 75% of the people in Hip Hop don't give a shit about hip hop as a whole. They are more concerned with the money they can make rapping. Hip hop is a form of expression as well as the commercial shows when the crowd disappears and it is just him doing his music his way not like all these cookie cut out rappers where music is the same in THEIR world.

  • jay know he dont drink that nasty shyt even though it made me wanna buy some

  • not illuminati but our eyes on the money. what a fuckin line!

  • @Gosnell4645 he is warning us be aware !!!!

  • Thos lyrics are from his song Announcement

  • That verse has to be heard with the original beat. Also, it's not even a club song and the people are acting like it is wtf lol. Anyway, I haven't even seen this commercial at all.

  • I remember what happened to Tupac after he started rambling about the 7 day theory and the illuminati, hope the same doesn't happen to electronica.

  • did he just mention the illuminati? or am i hearing things?

  • if some of you understood wat he was talkin bout (cuz everything means sumthing)you would't be callin him a genius or sayin how hot he was you would be pissed im just sayin

  • "We not illuminati but our eye is on the money" well thats a easy one but i'll go a lil more in depth . Jay E seems to have formed an uneasy truce with Jay-Z in his recent signing to RocNation, Jay-Z’s label. As Jay-Z is often said to be connected with the shadow illuminati group while Electronica boastfully proclaims to be fighting devlish forces, Jay E here feels the need to proclaim his separation from that, while explicitly stating the reason for the move, money.

  • @TheCityofgood That's actually a lot more interesting than I'd anticipated. How exactly do you know all this?

  • @fl00ders u aint never seen the youtube videos of various popular music acts being accused of being in the illuminati, and how the videos break down why and the symbolisms they show thats part of devil worshipp and illuminati/freemasonry signs...and how the music industry in controlled by "them"? yeah.....thats how i know about it, which jay e already know hes gotta address that illuminati in the music biz myth that ppl nowadays seem to really believe.

  • @yugang08 Can't say I have, no. As an atheist, devil worship to me is as absurd as Jesus or God. If there really IS an illuminati, they'd be way more interested in other aspects of human culture and resources. Another debate entirely.

  • @fl00ders "If there really IS an illuminati, they'd be way more interested in other aspects of human culture and resources." thats what im saying but, i hate to say it, but people really believe it ESPECIALLY religious ppl, like hard! i believe in global elites myself but musicians being luficefian members of it?? thats just some boogey man shit and has 0 relevance to the acutal illuminati, if thats what u wanna call them

  • @yugang08 Religious people are not generally known for their smarts. So the connection for them must be relatively easy to make. There is certainly a global elite, there's actually evidence of them too. Wall Street and the Fed Reserve, to name but a few. 'The Illuminati' though is just a badge, and likely shrouded in tons of misinformation. A decoy even?

  • "Sugar plum candy coated lines for the dummies Decoded hieroglyphics in the shrines for the mummies" Jay Electronica states that his lines are like hieroglyphics (as in they need to be decoded); they’re not just some pop “sugar plum candy coated” bars that other rappers spit

  • @TheCityofgood Yeah got that.

  • "And nary a soul got on they frog toes to ribbit" Not even one soul got on their weak toes to say a thing. Nobody had the balls, especially not the Critics in the previous line. "Shhh…T'was the night before the coming" A reference to the poem Twas the Night before Christmas.

  • "light from the dynasty sign" Jay-Z and other members of the Roc Nation (record label) like to form their hands in the roc symbol, and let the stage spotlight shine through "froze all of the critics" Jay Electronica’s critics were silenced after his signing to Roc Nation

  • "You’ll still be connecting the dots with smoking holes in your fitted" The concepts will take u out before u can even figure them out. You’ll have gotten shot through your hat from a gun with a laser sight (red dots) while you’re mesmerized, trying to decode what Jay is saying. "Those that got it be all at the shows throwing fitteds" If u truly understand the meaning behind his rhymes u will recognize game and support this guy

  • @fl00ders but i digress, now let me decipher the meaning in some of the lyrics of the song (which mountain dew changed the sound of the beat from the original track). "my crew is aerial, your crew inferior" He looks down on other MCs from the top. "Mc killers: milk & cerial" serial killers, hes lyrically killing MCs (Milk & Cerial) with his rhymes. "Get it? forget it" nevermind that line probably went over your head

  • @TheCityofgood So... To summarise; he's saying he and his 'crew' are lyrically better than everyone else? Does that about cover it? (For the record, I will concede, 'Milk n Cereal' is pretty clever, I'll pay that one at least)

But now give me some cultural context and insight- why all the posturing? Why are so many hip hop artists so combative, dissing this dude, that dude... Ya'll suck I rule, I is tha shit lookit my ice, ride and bitches...?

  • @fl00ders yes hes saying hes lyrically nicer than other mcs, skill-wise. Cultural context...thats a long one but let me be brief. Back then when mcs dissed each other, it was about the competitive spirit of being a dope rhymer, it was about gaining respect from the streets based on ur talent as a mc, it was a about the love & culture of hip hop. Go research Boogie Down Productions and the juice crew on their diss tracks to each other, that should help some....

  • @TheCityofgood Alright I will.

  • @fl00ders going forward from the 80s to the 90s, dissing became less & less about how better of a mc u are than the other, it became less about the culture of hip hop. Then it became more about dissing to be the "real gangsta or realist nigga out", it became more personal where no longer u would diss on wax but in real life, beefing forreal. It became more of a publicity stunt at a time when hip hop became more commercialized...

  • @fl00ders u could sell more records the more u went after another rapper (for the wrong & ignorant reasons) and it contributed to the death of tupac and biggie u can say, and now fastfoward to now, now beefing or dissing is some wwf shit. However, many mcs that care about skill, the culture and putting out quality music still hold that same competitive spirit that guys like krs one and kool moe doe and many other mcs from the 80s and early 90s had like jay electronica n other underground rappers

  • @TheCityofgood Well I'll take your word for it - you actually know your shit inside out. I can recognise *that* at least, but at times I find the 'competitive spirit' still seems a lot like the neanderthal chestbeating of previous decades, despite how it's dressed up.

  • @fl00ders i feel u on that, it was just more about having fun then and somewhat now (w/ real mcs of course) than going out to personally "beef" with someone over some stupid shit, or to do for attention.

  • @ellerderful dont waste ur time with @fl00ders cause i checked out his channel and he clearly states he hates all rap music, period. He is a rock fan (no suprise there) and a fan of some other alter genres. He clearly is not at all versed on the genre of hip hop or its culture so i wouldnt even waste my time trying to defend it to a mofo who, most likely, dont believe it takes real talent to be a a good hip hop just cause they dont sing or play instruments. Trust me, its no use w/ ppl like him

  • @yugang08 Rock... right. ok. lol. I'm trying to understand the 'genius' of this. Musically, hiphop is a dead end. If you break it down there's not much happening at ALL. Can't deny it. As long as there's 'sick bass' you guys wet yourselves. meh, whatever.

It's all about the lyrics/poetry and the delivery. This sounds like he's half asleep. Maybe that's why he slugs a bottle of Mountain Dew at the end to wake himself up? I totally respect his endorsement of a sugary softdrink. haha.

  • @fl00ders well u do like rock right?? and the reason i said its no suprise is cause "some" ppl, who happens to be fans of rock & metal, tend to get on youtube bash & stereotype hip hop like crazy example: "As long as there's 'sick bass' you guys wet yourselves" like thats really the main reason fans of hip hop (not that mainstream bullshit) love the genre and also if u know about jay electronica's actual music, then u know it aint the bass at all

  • @TheCityofgood That was you? lol.

I hate rock its boring as fuck, just fyi. Ok so I'll retract that tit for tat - there ARE those sort around though.

I apologise for generalising, its just the volume of mainstream far outweighs anything else. It's an easy trap to fall into. Being a Mountain Dew ad doesn't do much for credibility you have to admit. Or does product/brand endorsement not sway you at all?

  • @fl00ders its ok, mainstream is mostly trash all around from lil wayne (rap) to katy perry (pop) to 30 seconds to mars (alternative rock?), dont matter the genre. I dont listen to that bullshit my self, thats why i say the underground and music from the 70s, 80s and some 90s are where its at for good music. Yeah, lots of ppl especially fans of jay electronica where highly disappointed w/ this commercial tho. We hope it wont fuck w/ his talent or his message...so far hes fine (except this ad lol)

  • @TheCityofgood What's disappointing is not so much the ad, but the apparent need to do it. Is this considered greed or simply making ends meet? I would think the former, but you may have further insight into that as well lol.

  • @fl00ders Well jay electronica is not ur average rapper, especially in the way he promotes and spreads his music around. He has basically put out many songs, which were compiled into mixtapes arranged by different mixtape djs, but hasnt put out an official full length project....continue next comment

  • @fl00ders he has worked on his official project called act 2 for 3 yrs now and has delayed it many times and ppl are still waiting for it. Basically hes not trying to give u fast food, give me it now type of music he really is trying to craft a quality project, so he is a artist that dont rush projects for the sake of "staying" hot at the moment. Hes also admitted to being reluctant to put this out cause he dont want to disappoint the fans he want to give us the best of his art......continue nxt

  • @yugang08 I can respect that. Frustrating for you guys tho I'm sure.

  • @fl00ders fastfoward to november 2010, he signs with jay-z on his roc nation label cause he said he gave him an offer he couldnt refuse and he had the freedom he needed (i guess hes saying the terms of the contract were correct). Now he hasnt even got out any single yet (other than his underground songs exhibit a, exhibit c and shiny suit theory) from his act 2 project. He did this commerical cause its his ONLY promotional tool for himself right now

  • @yugang08 Looking more like a promotional tool for Pepsi, unfortunately. I hope this path leads to where he actually needs to be...

  • @fl00ders yeah i agree but to be fair he also did it cause he likes mountain dew. jay electronica as i said aint ur typical marketed artist, hes making his own way into the mainstream (he already got most of underground hip hop loving him). He dont wanna be like drake or any of the mainstream when it comes to promotion and trying to do the standard "thing" to getting on radio or tv. Mountain dew is the closest he's ever come to it

  • @yugang08 Hmm... I not entirely sure you meant to, but- you mention here he's 'making his own way into the mainstream' and yet 'dont wanna be like drake or any of the mainstream' at least when it comes to promotion. Kind of a contradictory statement, since mainstream is all about endorsements and contractual obligations... it's kind of hard to picture his vision standing at the foot of the machine. But hey, if you're confident then who am I to argue :P

  • @fl00ders sorry i meant to the masses, a larger audience larger than the underground, trying to reach as many ppl as possible (which he has to try since hes on a major) without compromising his style and watering down his music. Put it this way....he wants to be on the same level of a nas or mos def, he dont care about going any more further of mainstream recoginition than that, which aint bad at all

  • @fl00ders he understands who he appeals to and doesnt appeal to. Obviously his style of music is not for or targeted to the pop audience who likes lady gaga and he knows he wont appeal to the exact same ppl who like drake, he knows his niche and doesnt care to go out of that to try to gain the pop audience he can only and only wants to get ppl who likes quality music, period.

  • @fl00ders remember he is tight lipped as hell on his music and has that shit in a hidden vault. He is not putting out his music to promote himself like that, jay-z is actually allowing jay electronica to market himself and introduce himself to the public in his own way in his own pace. Jay elect aint going by the books, hes taking a different approach to readying his music to the fans, hes just kinda weird like that lol BUT he does wanna use his music to spread a real message to the masses

  • @yugang08 Well I hope for his sake and yours that the message makes it out unfiltered by corporate or other interests.

  • @fl00ders yeah, but as long as he continues to go in his own path, as weird as it maybe at times knowing him, he should be fine.

  • @fl00ders anyhow if u want to hear better song from jay electronica (of course their are) look up eternal sunshine (different from any rap track u may ever heard, gurantee u), exhibit a, exhibit c, so what you sayin (his flows are alot better on that track than this), victory in my clutches, something to hold on to and Dimethyltryptamine (his most hardest track to decipher but u can tell it has lots of deep meanings of truth about our gov.) If u end up liking him let me know

  • @ellerderful Oh so its just the tired old gangsta shit then?

First one: People that don't get it (?) will get holes in their hats from these AWESOME lyrics, cause like, he be shooting them yo.

People that do with throw their hats at the show.

Night before the coming of ...what, jay electronica? lol k.

He's not illuminati but he likes money too. Cause the ASE is on the pyramid on your dollar? Hence the hieroglyphs for mummies? What use is it to them? lol

btw, nice job replying to yourself.
