  • Only a total fool uses a 'Steel' and sharpens the blade towards his hand ... and that many times. If 'it's' that dull you're already into Plan B .. and do it over the food?????? Idea of a 'steel' is to align the edge on a knife NOT sharpen same.

    Lordie, grab me and hold me before I hunt this nut case down.

  • it's not a sharpening steel, it's a honing steel. You are not actually sharpening the blade, you are pushing the blade to center and fixing any imperfections you have created by useing the knife. Sharpening a knife by definition is removing material and creating a new edge. that is not what a honing steel is doing. Just wanted to clear that up.

  • I certainly hope the factory edge on the knives I've bought isn't as sharp as it will get.
