  • TN at 4:00 how many blocks of sim test was that? or should i say cartons?

  • What grip plug do you have in this glock 19? This is the one I loke the most of the ones you have

  • Comment removed

  • Having found your uploads and watched virtually all the SIM-TEST videos, I have become motivated to produce my own videos to upload . . . have you been satisfied with the SIM-TEST gel? By letting us viewers it exists will save anyone who is thinking about making ballistic gelatin a BOATLOAD of money - thank you very much!

  • F**k the FBI they are stuck in the 90's. Nobody wears denim Jackets anymore.

  • i like the gel but i have a problem with calbration i cant have a bb gun over 500fps

so as close as i can get is 495fps with a pellet gun(rifled barrel) so lead pellet only how much penetration should i use to calbrate it

  • Now youy have done your homework. SUGGESTION: Go to the Super market and buy you the CHEAPEST rack of PORK RIBS you can find,

Now place a layer of your test media in front of the ribs and SHOOT IT!

Media + Ribs(Meat & Bones) = Realistic test subject. I guess you could even put some Blue Jeans on old Porky too:) Stay Safe and I'll be WAITING!

(I am interested in 45ACP and 9MM findings) Thanks

  • i would love to see a 10mm through this... just saying. it looks alot more realistic than ballistic gel.

  • I'd like to see you use about (4) layers of denium. That would make the test a little more realistic.Hope you would test some Hornady Critical Defense 380 FTX ammo.

  • that is a bad ass knife

  • i would like to see u do a test of the 5.56 between a 20" and a 16", to see what the difference is

  • WOW! Thank you for this investment you have made. I enjoy all of your videos

  • aces man, love you videos, keep up the great work

  • This is some awesome stuff and I can't wait to see some ballistic test performed with it.

  • @TNoutdoors9 thanks for taking the time to perform these tests. They are very useful. You can't simulate every situation you may come to bare, so you simulate what you can and use common sense to help guide you through all other situations. Thanks again, and keep coming with these great videos.

  • TN9, I think you are doing an awesome job with these tests. The new media (SIM-Test) I believe will give more a real world results on the projectiles you will shooting into it. I do look forward to seeing more of these tests. Do you think you will do some of previous projectiles you did in the past? Oh, also, I ejoyed hearing you on the Hickok45 radio show. Please keep up the great work.

  • Thanks for another great video! Looking forward to your future endeavors.

  • Hey!

I just subbed to your channel after watching several .40 S&W tests.

I must say that you are doing a great job and I'm sure the new testing media will only make things better.

You have already busted many preconceived notions I had regarding certain premium loads.

Thank you for the education. I hope that you keep these tests up.

Many of us carry sub-compacts such as the G26/27. Perhaps Hickok would allow you to borrow his so what we could see expansion from the shorter barrel length.

  • @Tanrichguy Thats not a bad idea... I carry the G27 and would love to see some ballistics test on the 3 inch barrel and what kind of velocity they clock on the chronograph!

  • Thank You for your efforts!!!

  • You do realize that even with all this new stuff, there are still going to be the usual YouTube "experts" that want to chime in and say crap like "these tests don't have any real-world value at all". There's just no satisfying some people ... especially the know-it-alls of the Internet. Definitely looking forward to seeing your future test results!

  • @darkwriter77

You are absolutely correct. I have reached a so-called calbration point with this media, 3.5" using the BB, however, it's overdiluted and much too soft compared to calibrated gel. If I don't use "calibrated" media, I can expect to hear alot of complaining. Whatever. I can pretty much confirm what most people should realize based on this initial video. SIM-TEST and calibrated gel don't appear to have the same base composition. I'll get close and live with it.

  • @darkwriter77 I think you're talking about the guys who fire 5.45x39 and believe it's the greatest man stopping round ever and they claim .223 with a ballistic tip is worthless.

  • Have you thought about getting organs from a local butcher and possibly casting a human representation?

  • @Tnoutdoors9 , I'm not sure if you've already answered this but when do you think your next upload with (somewhat calibrated) Sim-test will be? Thank you for all the time, effort and resources you put into these tests. I really appreciate them.

  • @Fisherdave10

By Feb. 19th. I have to decide which diluted factor I'm going to use moving forward. I had to dilute ALOT....you might be surprised, then again, maybe not based on the penetration in the first video. The process would have been completed sooner but I've been on a business trip.

  • Thanks for all the hard work! Looking forward to this years videos.

  • Wow that appears to be quite time consuming. And even a little work. I appreciate all of the effort u put into these tests. Your videos are always insightful. I look forward to this year's videos with the new toys.

Do you anticipate re-testing ammo from previous videos?

  • @mobowhuntr

Yes, I will be re-testing a majority of those loads. Between those, what I'm buying, and some new calibers, I have enough tests lined up through 2012.

  • Wow.. New year, new tools. I'll be looking forward to what types of videos and tests' you do in the future. Well done!

  • Awesome. Can't wait for this to come together. Have been liking your vids a ton! keep em coming!

  • Very cool!

  • Heck Yeah! im gona love your videos even more now! i love gel tests

  • Wow, I really like the new media you are using. Can't wait to see how the HST's perform and other ammo as well.

    Great Job!

  • That stuff is amazing. And reusable??? Wow. This is going to be must-watch-YouTube.

  • Very cool. Better than watching T.V.!

  • man, you are one dedicated scientist!!!!

  • @charlesburton

I've never seen any of his/her/their videos so until I do I'll take your word for it haha.

  • Your tests are amazingly consistent and informative. The editing is superb! Even before you had the sim-test and the denim fabric your tests were still very professional. I'm looking forward to maybe some 12 ga. slug tests and many 5.56 tests. Keep these videos coming, yours and Hickock's are the only shooting channels worth the time on youtube!

  • Looking forward to the upcoming tests. Thanks!

  • @Vidwatcher321

I'm trying to do the BB calibration, but the deeper I go into this process, the more I'm reminded that the base composition of SIM-TEST and calibrated gel are not likely the same animal (no pun intended). I've already gone through two levels of diluting. I may have to settle on a happy medium and be done with it. There will still be folks who will swear only by calibrated gel, which is fine. This was never meant to displace calibrated gel as the holy grail.

  • Awesome! You sure do go to great lengths for give us as much data and facts about these defense loads as possible.. as well as some original gun related entertainment! Thanks mr tn!!

  • Outstanding! Looking forward to your continued tests!

  • COOL! Looking forward to ALL NEW TEST'S. Wonder how much dillution is needed? Glad you opened w/my carry ammo for my XD-SC!!! Would love to see a 115 grain standard pressure GDHP test, always been curious about that particular load, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  • This looks like it's going to take a bit more work to produce the video, however I think the results are going to be worth it. IMO, this is a huge step up for your channel. Will separate you from the rest of the pack which is extremely wise. I'll continue to watch and support. Thanks for the great videos!

  • Can't wait to see how the testing goes!

  • OMG! You sir...you are my hero! I want to be like you when I grow up. I used to want to be like Hickok45, and I do still love his videos, but where he went on to chatter on the internet radio you are still stunning me with you videos! As I bio major I love testing stuff, I hate writing lab reports but I do love the actual testing, and you are making me one happy camper for sure! Keep it up, and may the force be with you! ZombieTacticalStore(dot)com

  • You know you've arrived at total gun nerdom when you get excited over ballistic testing.

  • Very Cool! My primary carry is 9mm and I'm often wondering if the claimed performance by the manufacturer is true or not. I'm looking forward to more tests. Thanks.

  • That is some really cool media, I like that it is reusable better than gelatine. Cant wait to see more videos.

  • @ScubaOz

It is most definitely reusuable and recastable. I've been melting blocks and working on recalibration, and I do believe my wife is getting tired of the kitchen smelling "like an operating room".

  • @tnoutdoors9 Well thats better than the house smelling like animal fat or whatever I put in it to kill the smell LOL!!!!! Keep up the freat vids, Thanks!!

  • @tnoutdoors9 Sounds like your wife should buy you a hot plate for valentines day for your building outback. Looking forward to your reviews. 5 Stars as always......um, well, thumbs up anyway.

  • I am so happy with the new test media, it will allow inspection of the wound channel as well, which I am always interested it. Once you do more testing on the material and get the right "recipe" to duplicate ballistiec gel, you will have a great thing going. Atleast I figure you should be able to reach that point, GREAT WORK!!

  • Now this is dedication...thanks

  • I'm absolutely thrilled with the new test media and can't wait for more tests from it. Thanks for going to this level!

  • I'd thumbs up this video 100 times over if I could.

  • cant wait to see Ranger T`s in this stuff

  • Very cool! Thanks for the great work, I'll keep watching your videos!

  • Very interesting. This stuff appears to be denser than gel and results may need to be adjusted like dividing by 1 1/2 for water jugs. And is this stuff even water soluble or a different type of medium altogether?

  • Glad you're doing this. I'll be sending you some .45-70 rounds and slugs to test; better stock up on large quantities of that stuff! Also, it looks pretty tasty to me as I watch you slicing and handling it. How about saving me a few slices for a sandwich the next time I'm over. Maybe fried with some cheese on it. :-)

  • @hickok45

It looks good with crackers, tried that today. However, given our tradition of eating pizza, I think a cheese and veggie pizza with chunks of ballistic gel is in order. With or without JHP's? LOL

  • @tnoutdoors9 You won't need to worry about Hickok45 neglecting your nutrition when you watch for zombies over at the compound, just stuff some of this gel in an extra ammo pouch or something. Pretty versatile stuff. ;)

  • @hickok45 OMG it's hickok45!!

  • Nice More Ammo Testing

  • Awesome. Your previous testing videos are among the best on youtube (if not THE best). It looks like they're going to get even better.

  • Cant wait for more tests. really awesome stuff.

  • tnoutdoors9 is a cool dude.

  • Good stuff ..........

  • Awesome test. Thank You! I am considereing this round in Short Barrel Ammo .38 cal. 135Gr. MAssad Ayoob says it;'s very effective aout of a 1. 7/8 inch barrel.

  • Thanks for all your effort on this. One question, do you plan to run some 10mm into the new testing medium?

  • Sweet!, I know I'm excited I always check to see how ammo tested with you before I buy.

  • Excellent video, I generally keep 124gr Gold Dots in my Gen4 Glock 19....Suprising to see the difference in the final shape of the round in the gel versus other media you've had....I'll stay tuned for more, hope you give the 147gr Federal HST's a try with this media!

  • you by far have the best channel on YouTube. informative and entertaining

  • Thank you tnoutdoors9!! you are a pioneer of ammo information!

  • I wouldn't water it down at all, might ruin it. It might not be accurate as far as human tissue penetration, but it gives fantastic representation of wound channels and you might ruin it completely if you put more water in it.

  • Always love your fascinating analyses. Great to see you got the gel. Look forward to more testing and shooting. Great job!

  • Nice, you just got a little more high-tech. Great stuff brother

  • @shootcentermass

Great suggestions, as my wife's Revere knives were not meant for this. Looks like I'll be watching some YouTube knife reviews over the weekend!

  • that stuff does look tasty for some odd reason lol

  • Considering its your first video with this type of medium, it's perphaps the most informative and technical ammo testing on youtube. I look forward to seeing more of your testing with this new gel; awesome video and I know you'll continue to make them better, thanks a lot.

  • Thank you for all your efforts...Incredibly informative !!!

  • this is your most awesome video yet. I enjoy all your videos. This is going to be a GREAT investment. Thanks also for your in depth explanation, with the screwdriver and also with explaining how it didn't crumble or break. These were all questions i had initially when viewing. It's great how you shared that, leaving no room for skeptics. Safe shooting. Thanks again.

  • btw i'd leave it as it is. Just in case you accidently dilute it more than you want to, there might not be a way to un-dilute without adding more to it.

  • Honestly i think that would test more realisticly than gel.

  • Watching this video has given me an inexplicable hankering for cheese.

  • Wow. You are by far my favorite youtube gun channel.

  • in my opinion, i would definitly dilute it a little bit more, it does seem a little too stiff, but at the beginning it did seem nice an realistic, but in my opinion, it seems too stiff from the looks of it, it made it challenging for the bullet to expand.. have you heard of the knox gelatin that is used for food? .. i know ppl refer to it as ballistic gelatine, but idk if its really considered ballistic however it is really close to what i see on tv etc.. but yea.. id def trying to dilute it GL

  • Nice video and very interesting. Found you by way of Hickok45....

    Thanks for the video!

  • Hey TN, have you ever considered trying out for Top Shot?

  • @MrHurrikanable

I'm flattered, but those guys are way beyond my abilities. Even if I had the talent, I'm not up for the drama and BS. I much prefer the YouTube format and the measure of control it offers a channel, not to mention the high level of interaction with viewers. YouTube is the future of TV, IMO.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Yeah, that's understandable. I have to agree with you. Perhaps there is more to it than what they show on T.V.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Those guys aren't above your abilities at all. I've watched most of the first season, and they had guys teacupping the guns and not hitting targets at all. But I completely agree, it's reality tv and there's no way I could put up with the kind of BS they put into that show.

  • Im sure the FBI will contact you soon to do some of their testing.

Or they will just take notes from your tests.

  • Great video. Looking forward to the next test.

  • I cant wait to see the .40 pdx bonded tests with this new gel. Your other tests is the reason I started carrying it.

  • Nice! I along with many others truly appreciate your time and effort in making these videos. It looks like 120 lbs. of Sim-Test will last you a life time!!

  • cool, always enjoyed your testing vids. excited about the tissue blocks. in my opinion 1 layer of denim would be more realistic. who in the hell is going to have 12 layers on? the fbi uses 12 because we pay for the denim, & the government loves to waste our money. just kidding. no really. just kidding. no really they do. :)

  • good job, seeing the wound channel is a reminder to these younger shooters, this is not a video game and injuries from these firearms are horrific and if not fatal are a total devastation to your life and the shooter if done out of the legal use of deadly force. that being said, can I mold that stuff into a girl?

  • Awesome work, looking forward to seeing more tests. Maybe a retest of 124 gr pdx 9mm? You're a busy man, thanks for taking the time, money, and effort for this.

  • @natemarmy

Several rounds from the wetpack tests will again make their way to the shooting table for a SIM-TEST video. Plus many new loads.

  • @tnoutdoors9

    Nice, looking forward to it!

  • I was able to scratch my monitor and it smells like peanut butter!

  • I can't wait! I know this is going to be really entertaining and I'll properly learn something new to. And it looks so tasty, how do you keep yourself from not eating it?

  • cool man, going pro!

  • pretty cool. looking forward to the results. i think the density of flesh is pretty close to that of water, about 1 gram per cubic centimeter. How much does that stuff weight per cubic centimeter? just curious.

  • pretty cool.

  • I look forward to your future ballistic tests.

  • nice

  • You ROCK TN9!

  • Now all you need is a body shaped block.

  • Thanks for your dedication and research. Looking forward to more tests. Keep up the good work!

  • nice keep up the great work

  • i appreciate the attention to detail, keep up the good work.

  • I can't wait to see what the .30 Carbine round will do fired from that M1 Carbine of yours..... wanna see if really has the right stuff or if people complain about it being underpowered unjustly

  • I have enjoyed your videos for sometime now, and I am very pleased and somewhat impressed to see that your "data points" will now contain much more data! Very much looking forward to 2011 Backyard Ballistics.

  • nice , teching up with new media

  • The first ballistics test were great, but this new method is AWESOME!! Thanks tnoutdoors9!!

  • Love The New Stuff!!!!

  • This should make for some good testing!

  • awesome! Cant wait to see to see the tests!

  • This is great, I've been looking forward to this. I'm not surprised the Gold Dot only got 7" given how dense and rubbery that was. A standard calibration is going to be critical.

  • thank you TN for all of your awesome videos!

  • this will be very nice to be able to see what the wound channel and just how nasty some of these rounds are

  • yayy finally

  • Sir.. You have gone PRO

  • i saw you squeezing it and i just wanted to take a bite out of it. i wonder what it tastes like.

  • @TacticalTuckFard

Tastes like the pancakes at Waffle House on a Saturday night!

  • @tnoutdoors9 ....is that good? lol.

  • @tnoutdoors9 I don't want to know why you found that out or why...

  • @TacticalTuckFard me to lol

  • Very pro like testing, I was just about wondering if somebody would come up with quality videos like you did. Excellent !!! Thanks for all your work, not all realize the amount of prep it takes!

  • THANK YOU SIR! Nice to see your new "toys" in action here. Very nice set up you have going now. I know I'm not alone when I say that I'm looking forward to future vids!

  • so regular hollow point pedals VS rangerT series blade-pedals by Winchester is the damage that much more traumatic?

  • I think you should melt down the expanded bullets and make a huge mold just for display purposes :)

  • very cool change

  • great video, and I love the testing... that stuff it pretty pricey for 60 lbs

  • So it's re-usable? Niiiiiiiiiiice. Would love to see the 223/12 gauge on this LOL

  • nice work sir..very nice channel..just wondering if you could move the impact points on the gel.so you could shoot it twice with different calibers, for one test..

  • awesome cant wait for more

  • Very Nice Tn...I'm excited to see what you're gonna do with this. Just curious, how much did that cost?

  • Very interesting, cant wait to see more. Great work.

  • Nice addition to the testing spectra you have going on. You should consider setting up a paypal account for donations, maybe you could recoup your investment since you have such informative vids, thanks!

  • It is really cool how you are working to standardize your test media and also the fabric, heading in the same direction as the FBI ballistic laboratory makes sense and adds measurable credibility to your work. Thank you for your significant time commitment and financial investment to this very interesting gun channel.

  • Great to see you got your hands on that stuff. Looking forward to some new tests, you're the most scientific tester on Youtube and I would say easily one of the most accurate and reliable sources of information on ammo on the Internet.

  • Great video! Cant wait to some tests in this stuff!

  • This looks like a lot of work. Thanks for taking the effort to make these videos.

  • As you've noted Sim-test seems to be denser than ballistics gel, which would probably reflect the decrease penetration depth. Standard gel should have a penetration of about ~3 inches with a .177 bb at ~ 590fps - however the same bb might bounce off sim-test media because it is so dense. Be that as it may, it is still valuable to see the expansion of the bullet and any plugging due to the denim with the addendum that the depth might be a bit short. Look forward to seeing more tests - thanks!

  • @DagaYute

I just melted 8 lbs of block. Once that liquified, I added 30% of distilled water....by volume. That % is probably the high end for diluting. I'll pop the brick with a Crosman 760 after it solidifies and cools, then recalibrate as needed. My early estimates are that approx. 35 lbs of SIM-TEST could be sufficient for an ample testing block...or blocks. I may use segments, as with this test, to avoid using a metal detector to find the slug in this density.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Seems like although it might not be calibrated to ballistic gelatin in it's stock density, it seems to give a more realistic penetration depth. I've always kinda wondered why ordinance gelatin was diluted to the point that projectiles such as a .177 BB would penetrate, when in real life wouldn't likely break skin.

  • why not use a layer of towel to represent a fluffy winter jacket or something i dont know maybe im crazy but i like worst case scenario test lol but u have to admit it would suck to trust a round and it fail after passin through a thick jacket

  • @frodo70444 Absolutely agree! A test with a leather jacket, a sweater, or wool - would be priceless.

  • @antiigravity naw im sure leather jackets have a price! lmao

  • looking good tn. looks yummy

  • Lookin forward to more!!!

  • Can't wait to see your new tests with that gell!

Start it off with a 12 guage slug ^^

  • Awesome, Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fascinating stuff, learned something new too. Thanks

  • thanks for the video!

  • aww comeone do some 9mmm pleaaaaaase

  • @tnoutdoors9 I'm pumped for what's coming next from you! If you get the chance could you do some tests on the 125gr .357sig round? I know it's very peculiar but I'm curious how it stacks up with other cartridges. Especially .40 S&W and .357 magnum.

Very cool new ballistic medium. Glad to see the scale and caliper as well.

  • @JAndersonIV

In the video description, I have noted calibers that will be tested moving forward. WAY down the road....if ever....I'll look at both .357 SIG and 10mm. I used to own Glocks in those calibers but they were sold years ago.

  • @JAndersonIV im sorry i know its frustrating when people ignore the description-- sorry to be that guy. regardless you've got a view from me per video either way, thanks!

  • No one can even come close to the quality of your tests. I carry Winchester Supreme Elite PDX1 (40S&W) because of your tests. Thanks TN

  • Very nice! Can't wait to see the 124gr hydra shok's performance. Would also love to see the 7.62x39 if possible.

  • Can't wait to start seeing various ballistic test results once you get things sorted out. Thanks for being willing to put this kind of effort and expense into your testing...YOU"RE THE MAN!

  • looks pretty cool... looking forward to more videos!

  • Can't wait, awesome stuff.

  • Very cool. That wound channel is sick! My carry ammo in both my 1911 and Glock 19 is Gold Dot, 230gr in my 1911 and 124+p in my Glock. To me, Gold Dots are the ideal carry ammo, I have yet to see any reason to carry anything different.

Thanks for all these test tnoutdoors9, I will be looking forward to more!

  • thanks tn9. this was very interesting. i like how you explain everything and have great video quality.

  • awesome! some of the best content on the web! hands down! cant wait for more videos!

  • I feel like a kid in a candy shop... This is awesome!
