1. Unprofessionally attired official, but at least better than the players, who couldn't be bothered wearing matching clothes.
2. Under the current FIFA rules, any personal foul on an attacking player on a fast break where there is no defender in front of the attacking player is an automatic unsportsmanlike foul. I don't know what rules this league plays under (and the video was before that rule was implemented), but I'm not sure there is anything to complain about from this angle.
2) It would be called a "clear path foul," The player on the receiving end of the foul receives free throws and possession. It's not unsportsmanlike, just a rule implemented to discourage players from hindering both an easy bucket and stopping the action of the game.
Deserved a "T", whether the ref looks the part or not. If you've ever played basketball, you know that shoving a player from behind, hard or not, is a technical.
Plus the score looks to 13 to 11 - not exactly a needed shove.
one adult rec league I ref has their own rules, including calling all intentional fouls when someone is going to the hoop as technicals. so this ref, despite his stupid hat, could just be doing his job...or not....
I have no problem with city league officials being rookies, but they should at least look the part! Wearing a backwards hat = no respect from me or anyone else!
thats a very judgmental statement. seeing as how you have NO idea why he is wearing the hat. wouldnt you feel like an ass if his reason for wearing the hat is a birth defect or something on his head. or maybe its because he has a huge head of hair and it would look retarded for a ref to wear a headband.
@MemphisBasketball As an offical in multiple sports now for over 20 years, I can say that basketball officials, even in city league, are Not permitted to wear a hat, no matter a birth defect or some hair problem.
And if they were permitted towear one, it would be worn forward, not backwards.
This is not a technical foul. If anything I would have called it an intentional foul. A flagrant foul would have the player ejected.

@MemphisBasketball That is not judgemental! That is a PAID job, and as such, I expect some professionalism!

100% intentional no need to give a T.
hylk 4 years ago
if he was T'd up for that he has to be ejected. which would be a bs call. i have intentional all the way
kwtmrman 4 years ago
If he was T'd up, the official really doesn't know what he's doing. The foul might be intentional, but it's neither flagrant nor a technical.

that was flagrant ... not technical
