Im possibly playing this piece and debussy's rêverie for all state band auditions on flute. I just got the score today and its already fun.its awkward though as well because i dont have the privillage of having two tones so playing what would be each string is a tad hard where he drops to his low key. I love it though. This man by far is my favorite cello player. Im pretty sure he is the reason i want to buy one and learn how to play.
It looks like he got caught up in the moment. It would be hard not to do something like that after giving a magnificent performance such as the one he gave.
While my hand is injured, my Cello teacher told me to research the bach suites from a variety of performers, and figure out what my favorite combination was -- which suite by which performer.
So far, this one takes the cake, hands down. This guy is amazing.
@smehollin Oh i hope you hand get nice again, i have this Gigue (a) in my account on my violin i get at the age of 12,noone in famyli plays and i started since i get this instrument with a coinsidence that time when 12 years, i play them after worc again and again alone ,and i tubed some of them, 6 pieces among some other wids is in my account. This is the most funny stuff ewer mad in my oppinion:)
and @ekeim89 and @Samoriah although vibrato may not be the "typical" Bach it is a styling choice. I may not agree with it either, but Bach created his pieces to be interpreted how the musician sees fit, just look at any other version of this and you can see the bowing, styling, and even vibrato.
@freezesucker13 Thanks for saying that to that person because they needed to hear it.....And although i am not a huge fan of the styling of this musician I am in awe of his musical ability! Bravo!
@KimimaruYoshi you can find a whole book of bach's six suites for cello at pretty much any music store that sells strings instruments... the book is yellow and it says bach's six suites on the front
He's a little shaky. seems like he can't keep pace with the bulk of the song. go to itunes and find gabriel faure. what he sacrifices in speed he makes up with consistent power. Keep a good pace and the true strength of this piece will come through. God bless Bach. God bless the kids who play it.
Can you give some examples? I don't have Maisky's recording, and am not a cellist - I've held a soft spot for Yo-Yo Ma's ("The cello suites To-To Ma inspired by bach, from the six part film series") as one of the best recordings I've heard in my whole life, so I'm a bit biased towards Ma. Not questioning Maisky's brilliance. The guy is clearly amazing. Has some very very nice things of his own and from Rostropovich! Just curious about what parts lead you to this conclusion.

The gigue is supposed to played with a light a jumping character. Maisky on the other hand seems to carry a rucksack full with stones when he is playing.
he must've practiced a billion times more often too. Just look at him, he practiced it to the point where he can completely immerse into the song and forget everything around him while he plays, thats why it seems so easy for him.
to a musician, it actually isnt so hard to do that, you dont need hundreds of hours of practice for it, hes just really good at playing. and music is an art, you have to enjoy it. hes enjoying his own playing
is it possible to excel in both instruments? i'm weary of the fact that time invested on one major instrument is better ofcourse than trying to excel in two...but could someone answer that pursuing two instruments will just take longer, but not necessarily impeding or foreshortening your skills? i know that paganini was both a virtuoso violinist and guitarist. i aspire to be a guitar/cello player. Thanks! btw-cello lovers, listen also to Concerto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo
Who cares if you don't master either instrument? I say just have fun with it. Unless your aspiring to be a world class pro, playing two instruments is fine.
lol I like his little pose at the end. That was phenomenal....amazing. I'm a beginner at the cello (at 17) and listening to Maisky inspires me so much.
I've played the piano for around 2 years now and really want to try my hand at the cello (at 20). It might just be impossible to find a teacher on my island, but how'd you go about finding a good starter cello?
I'm 17 and i'm a beginner at the cello so i'm not an expert but i think you should get the most expensive cello you can afford since you want to get a really good-quality cello with a good sound. But i'll advise you to play a borrowed cello first and see if you like playing it.
its almost unbelievable how his technique is so perfect.. his intonation is so clear and smoooth.. there are no scratch sounds or anything like that.. i want his cello... prolly costs about 50 grand...
It's funny you mention that. I am not a cellist, but rather a classical guitarist. I wanted to hear the Bach cello suites on cello before I attempt them on guitar. Now when I listen to other cellists I notice how this man is so perfect with his tone.
HARDCORE! play this track more than 3 times! When folks were composing sweet little ditties, half-stepping pieces of shite, Bach wrote this powerful, muscular, megalomaniacal (sic) monster! A New World Order is at hand. To hell with Wagner. I need more tracks like this !!!
This is incredible. I came on here searching for inspiration for my upcoming cello exam and I got it! Mischa; you rule. This interpretation is full of passion and is musically phenomenal.
If you want a cello bad enough, one will find you. I got mine for $60 ($1 for each year of its age), and it plays beautifully. When i first started I had a half hour lesson every other week, and taught myself to kinda sorta play the Bach suites in between. Go for it!
you can do a rent to own program at a music shop, and pay no more then $50 a month on your instrument, lessons will cost something, but if you look at colleges with music schools, the students will teach you (they know what they're doing usually)and you can offer to pay like $10-15 for a half hour lesson a week.
Yes Bach! You squeezed the jam out of that one son!I imagine this was the Hardcore of the period. Music to "get the juices flowing" if you will. If this were playing in my chamber, I'd be raping courtesans, planning my invasion of Prussia, dueling punks who'd got it twisted.
so, i dont understand BWV numbers; what i do understand is that they dont work like Opus #, which are chronological. BWV are arranged by instrument, right? but then in relation to the instrument, like the cello suites, do they appear in chronological order of publishing?
whow, I would never post something like that, I love music, I probably posted the right comment on the wrong video. I love Maisky, maybe my account was hacked because i would never intentionally do that.
