  • haha thom yorkes ian curtis impression

  • Nice Ian Curtis impersonation, Mr Yorke

  • Love both bands massively, respectful cover. I love how phil kept up with steves drum pace :)

  • @charlie123abc360 I've covered this without about 3 bands by now and each time i gave the drummer a two weeks to get their stamina up, they all ended up acing but but that was never an easy feat

  • Reminds me of the Foals song "Red Socks Pugie".

  • i'll break them down, no mercy shown...

  • they do a great job, but the song is not theirs. this a joy division original. radiohead is still f*ck!ng awesome

  • @IowaPrimetime hey dosent the gutiar sound likie im coming home from 1:04 to 1:41

  • :O :O :o :O :O jesus:O ??!!!

  • Like Radiohead, but T. Yorke et.al. need to get over themselves. Just make music and enjoy the nice life it provides you, but skip the sour looks and the "why are you watching this? Turn off your computer" etc. Smile once in awhile, act like your fans matter. I mean these guys make the Smiths look like the Spice Girls for crying out loud! Music should be fun, have some damn fun!

  • I came on youtube to listen to this song only!!!

  • @thomyorkelegend haha... so did i.

  • not to be blasphemous but i read a comment that fits perfectly "Jesus covering God"

    it's perfect!

  • @valjs64 haha good thing u avoided being blasphemous there

  • @TheNadster2 hey i didn't say it in the first place i was quoting! should have used the " " thingy's it's okay to attribute it to someone else. did think the comment was cool though.

  • @valjs64 hahah its cool I was just jokin

  • @TheNadster2 there was no snippiness to my comment i was just sayin'...was kinda blasphemous though. didn't see it that way till you said.

  • @valjs64 ye no worries, tis a great cover though!

  • Rossiov - it can be, and is, a great version with or without ian - much of new order's great work could never have happened had ian still been around...

  • New Order shouldn't even be mentioned it is and always will be a Joy Division song.

  • @RossiovMicky

    YES!

Radiohead have more of a right to this song than New Order, because this cover is 1,000,000 times better than theirs.

Long live Joy Division and Radiohead (in that order).

  • @djluckywiz you re right (with a better english than mine ... i m french..)

  • Ian Curtis is the writer of this song - Can t be a New Order's song - Respect his memory please - RIP Ian - and again well done Radiohead

  • @lviq Joy Division are the writers of the song, lyrics Curtis, music by the band, with probably Curtis assisting with the arrangements.

  • de mes 35 ans je me retourne en arrière et je fais un signe de la main à ce gamin de 16 ans là bas derrière...que j'étais...

    Quelle sensation fabuleuse !!

    merci radiohead,merci new order

  • wow, just simply wow, completely mind blowing

  • I'm watching this video for the 15th time and it's only now that I've realized there's a watermark on the screen.

  • How many time can I like it.

  • this i think is better than the original and i am a 40 year old new order fan . The drummer has got it perfect ... faster but slower !!!!!

  • My favourite band of the twenty first century covering my favourite band of the twentieth century.

  • @soyousay18 hate to be a stickler, but the majority of radiohead's music was produced in the twentieth century...

  • @ldelworth Not true. 3 albums in the 20th Century (Pablo Honey/The Bends/OK Computer) and 5 (Kid A/Amnesiac/Hail to the Thief/In Rainbows/King of Limbs) in 21st. =)

  • Definitely the New Order cover and not the Joy Division cover - still fantastic

  • holy crap i feel in love today !!!

  • breathless!

  • Please Radiohead the same with Disorder, Transmission, no love lost or she's lost control !!!!

  • Best cover of a Joy Division's song

  • yup!! dig it!

  • Joy Division and Radiohead...The Best

  • awesomeness knows no bounds, personally i no like this band, but a tune is a tune

  • HAHAHA Tom makes it look so real! Love both bands and that was a big tribute!

  • its the intensity plus the nostalgia of the late 80's and early 90's, oh my, awesome

  • yeah, this is even better when buzzed, wow!!

  • this is a great cover lot of intensity thank god i not deaf

  • @Andy, uh, "stop mumbling," have you ever heard Ceremony by Joy Division before? Part of the beauty of the song is that it's the mumblings and rambling of a man's inner voice. Maybe you should look up the original version and rethink that post. Great cover. I listen to this vid at least once a month.

  • Dead easy: Apple are wankers - sue me. Bunch of spoilers.

  • anyone knows how i can get only the audio from this video?

  • @FER14FMA use a download prog. i got one from 'cnet.com' in their download section called GETGO DOWNLOAD MANAGER.its free from virus etc and its free to use.it will take the whole thing-video and audio and put it on your pc. then i use magic video converter to rip the audio as an mp3

  • the "now what?" comment at the end says it all...

  • @rip1904 yep. where do you go from there.. that was perfection.

though i think he just meant.. what to do next in the webcast haha

  • Also, Ed O'Brien seems to be playing the bass in this song, or am I going crazy? Can anyone confirm? Cheers!

  • @tellytubies123 Hey ain't playin it as well as the hookstar!!!!!

  • He is playing it nonetheless though, isn't he?

  • Even the songs they choose to cover are amazing. Ceremony and The Headmaster Ritual really suit Radiohead's style.

  • RIP |Ian... watching forever

  • Now and then I likes me some Joy Div.

  • what a bass voice from Thom!

  • Stop fucking mumbling!

  • thanks Fellas, could you please release a Joy Division greatest hits cover album?!?! I think that would turn the world of music on its head and wonder how could they improve on this!! Do I need to say more?!

  • Hey you lot stop the dividing bullshit and just enjoy the Song the song is Both Joy Division/New Order

  • New order aint no Joy division.

  • thank you radiohead, i am now going to listen to all the joy division and new order i cant get

  • I love it when one of my favorite artists covers a song from from another band that is dear to me.

    :)

  • actually its a Joy Division song

  • I think the story goes that Ian had a very "rough" demo of this that he had worked on while (still alive) with Joy Division, but when he sadly passed, Bernard, Stephen, and Peter listened to the tape, tried to figure out what he was singing and they released this as a New Order song.

  • No, there was no "rough" demo made. The song was never demoed to our knowledge. It was played live a handful of times, and recorded live three times. Once on a single, once on Still, and another on the Heart and Soul boxset. On all versions, the vocals were messed up due to sound tech errors.

  • I am pretty sure I have seen an interview were Stephen talks about Bernard, Peter, and himself trying to decipher Ian's words/lyrics when they listened to a recording that Ian had made of the song....

  • I'm not sure what they would have to decipher since Ian wrote down all of his lyrics in his notebooks. In the book Touching From a Distance, the appendix of the book is Curtis' notebooks full of lyrics, and Ceremony is in there. Anyway the fact that it was played live just sixteen days before his death tells us that the song was rehearsed thoroughly.

  • @casiotone1331 Sorry, casiotone...I didn't mean to get into a flame war, but you are right...I read that New Order book so long ago (over 15 years now) and I thought that is what I read...I now think it was "In a Lonely Place.." Is that right?

  • @815oceanic815 Nah, I never thought it was a flame war, just wanted to clear it up. Yeah, I think you're right about that thought, "In a Lonely Place" could've been it.

  • @casiotone1331

In a Lonely Place in Glatonbury is some brilliant stuff....

  • and New Order ain't no Joy Division w/o Ian

  • cmon man, this is beautiful!

  • increible !!!! muy buena version .... muy buena ..... increible ....

  • Absolutely amazin! Beautiful song, uplifitng, a spot on cover version. Radiohead GETS joy division!

  • Brilliant. One of the best covers every done.

  • How humble & noble of you kydder23, this band is a lot more multiplied by your platitudes. Btw who are you ?

  • one of the best bands covering one of the best bands best songs.

  • How is it humanly possible to be this fucking BRILLIANT?!

These men are GODS among mere mortals.

    Long Live Radiohead!

  • This is a good cover. I play in a band that covers this and they do a great job. I am pretty sure they did not practice this too many times. The drums don't seem very complex but they can throw you off and Phil seems to be fighting a bit. But I love the version and I think these guys are a great band!!

  • If I had to choose a themse song, this would be it.

  • love ya boys> ian wud approve

  • Love the cover, I think they did a phenomenal job here.

  • Wow, excellent cover version

  • Phil looks INTENSE on the drums, eh?

  • @levilevilevo offcourse he looked intense, trying to match the drumming qualities of stephen morris...not an easy job. this cover is one of the best I've heard!

  • @levilevilevo he rocks it non the less (=

  • @levilevilevo he has a lot to live up to covering a song like this!! did a damn good job too! but i understand his intense look 100%! =)

  • @levilevilevo

The great thing about Phil is that he never shows off, even though he is awesome.

I wonder why Ed is playing the bass here ...is Colin not playing in this song?

  • @masawec he's a straight player your right! and just enough abstract jazz to make it interesting! this cover is awesome i had to even look to see if it was Thom Yorke singing he sounds just like the singer for New Order but it was Thom and That made it better.

  • Excelente cover...Joy Division - Radiohead

  • my favourite bands would love to hear another cover of a joy division song by radiohead

  • your an idiot

  • fuckin homo your ma was a whore and your father a punter top yourself u tossa

  • why the hell are you posting here? plz if youre gonna say dumb things like tha,t plz dont post, to say that a joy division cover by radiohead sounds like a drunk person at the karaoke bar makes you look like the stupidest person on earth

  • I LOVE this cover. Love isn't even strong enough, it's just wonderful. I like that little smile Thom does after about a minute, he clearly realises how amazing it sounds. :-)

  • muy bueno

  • lol fanboys.

  • ugh...why??!?

  • am i crazy or is Thom singning in a Re-20 Microphone ?

j'suis con ou Thom chante dans un micro Re-20 ?

  • I think he is. What so special with that one?

  • well, it's a bit unusual, this Mic is normally used for kick-drum and especially Bass-ampifiers. I like the sound of it tough, seems to help him sing those low-notes in some verses. really good Mic choice.

  • I always see that mic used in radio broadcast

  • Nice one. One of the better JD-covers. But to be honest: NO ONE can stand up to Ian. Not in one thousand years.

It's the same when Barney sings JD songs these days. Just not the same without Ian.

  • agree mate, bu this aint a bad cover...

  • I didn't say that. I mean, they're Radiohead, so it couldn't be complete shit. XD

  • Please don`t yak that useless concepts about this range, well wherever

  • Sorry but I think that the cover is better than the original for this one.

  • The original is the original this is a cover , Radiohead fuckin Kicks ur ass

  • Exactly! A cover is not replacing the original its a tribute. I would think the original band should be honored other bands like the song enough to cover it.

  • nice tribute

  • Nowhere near as good as the original

    Ian Curtis RIP

  • I could honestly say Radiohead are the only other band that could do this song and make it sound just as good as JD

  • galaxie 500 do a good version

  • as good as radiohead are and I love them to death.. no way is this even comparable to joy division or Neworder's. In my opinion, that was terrible.

  • Terrible? Upgrade your sound card and speakers.

  • How could you possibly know what you're talking about when you're a big fat dummy? ;)

I have a real good set up, by the way, it still doesn't compare. I did also say, "in my opinion".. if you think it's amazing and you just can't believe it.. good for you.

  • aguante radiohead, desde argentina, que bueno los joy y los new order, saludos

  • What a cover Radiohead is simply brilliant

  • nice cover...

  • Fucking perfect.

Brings tears to my eyes, just like Ian did..

  • radiohead deserves ian's smile for such performance

  • Beautiful Cover of "Ceremony", and the only band to play it off with heart & soul....and true to it's original sound....RADIOHEAD! Great Job!

  • perfection. probably the best cover ever? seems like they've been working on this since they were teens..

  • DUCARALEO !!! PERFECT !!

  • tops performance man

  • que buen tema loco la verdad q yo voy a estar en primera fila cuando radiohead venga en la Argentina vamos todabia aguante radiohead

  • you might want to become a radiohead fan

  • i love jd and no,and hate bands covering ther songs,im not a radiohead fan but i think this is a good cover, kept faithfull 2 the original

  • Great job!!!

  • is ed actually playing that bass,or he just like's to grab it, ._.

  • its a gd but new order is the ticket

  • Radiohead have a passion for quality music performed from the heart and soul.

  • Yeah there my faveorite band who is your faveorite band?

  • mny favorite artist is The smiths , and new order, block party

  • I am 46 years old and both my sons (both in their 20's) still call me the "John Peel" of West Hull. No greater compliment...long live innovation and REAL music. I thank you GothCuttlas

  • Next to 24 hours, i feel this was JDs best song. This is a decent version. well done.

  • good song

  • this song makes me think cry and dance

this cover is good as fuck

long life for new order and radiohead

  • its a great "copy" from a great band..

  • Freakin. Awesome.

  • This is Radioheads version, it isnt Ian Curtis singing from Joy Division, so why fucking argue? Im a huge JD fan, but Ian died and this cover is no mockery, its full of feel and life, I love listening to this! JD fans time after time complain and complain, but if Curtis himself were still alive I dont think he'd be all defendent, id think tbh he be thrilled his music is still heavily appreciated, and how much influence its had on bands such as Radiohead.

  • i actually think there's a lot of truth to what placount said, although i don't agree with the way he worded it. an artist's taking his own life or dying prematurely surely affects the audience's perception of their art. i can guarantee you, had Yorke killed himself after OK Computer, he would have been hailed the same way as Curtis, Cobain, Lennon, etc. luckily he's still alive and making brilliant music, and Radiohead are legends for all the right reasons.

  • Disagree strongly with the comment from Placount, and do not like the way it's phrased either. As much as I love Radiohead, Joy Division will always hold a very special place in my heart. I was still a teenager when I saw JD only 3 months before Ian took his own life, and love Radiohead now, but the two bands belong to two very different times and it is (in my opinion) very unfair to make any comparisons between them. "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer" will stand as true classics, always.

  • Brilliant cover!

  • Excellent version of an excellent song.

  • thank you SO MUCH

  • Whatever, people only lick Ian Curtis's ass because he died so young. It's the same shit with Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Tupac, Big, the list goes on. Radiohead far exceed Curtis in all categories. I'm not even a huge Radiohead fan, I actually like Joy Division more but I recognize Radiohead overshadows them tremendously.

  • ummmm..no they don't...you weirdo.

  • just because someone came before radiohead and influenced radiohead doesnt mean that they are better than radiohead. John lennon is up in heaven right now listining to kid a.

  • Full of energy. We can see that they really respect the song.

  • Ed's got a bass!?! That's awesome!! I got to see these guys at Noblesville and they're just as amazing live.

  • They perform the song very well, did it for themselves more than anything. Comparisons need not really be made.

  • Nice cover... though some people will always be haters and make nasty comments.

  • Wow, that was a great moment. They seem to have a lot of fun covering a song they probably grew up with.
