  • Aww, I thought you ran all of these synths at the same time. Brain would have exploded. Anyway, I saw that you were sequencing the minimoog with the dark time via CV/Gate and you were at one point controlling the mini with a keyboard too. I thought there were issues with doing this? Becuase the mini isn't exactly 1v/oct??? I thought I would have to have my minimoog majorly modified to actually use a different keyboard to control it. ???? I want to convert my prophet 08 to cv for the mini???

  • Hi,

I'm interested in this. Can I use it with my Roland SH-01? It has midi in,out, thru. I also have a xoxbox that has midi and a CV gate and din.

  • damn the germans know how to build the coolest well made gear- its like a science lab combined with a german engineers approach to style!

  • Easily, this is one of the best DT vids on YouTube.... Thanks for such a great collection of sound and style

  • 2:33 sounds like something from Trans-Europa Express IMO. Nice demo, thanks!

  • Hey is it possible to trigger Dark time with Roland CR-78 and then through Dark time to a midi synth? :)

  • I havent heard anyone do a single thing with this analog sequencer that has impressed me. I dont know if its the people demoing it or the device its self. Sequences just dont have that special something you can get from analog sequencers + it just doesnt sound as tight as the early ones and I strongly suspect if note distances were measured many would be surprised to see how flabby it is. I will also bet the triggers are controlled by a micro chip rather than speed of light analog triggers

  • wow that sounds pretty Darn good. Where can i get one of those.

  • For sequencing my Ms20 with Dark Time does the doepfer module a-165 need power (thus I'd have to get a suitcase/eurorack) or can it be used alone? Amazing vid!!!

  • Does the dark time sync to external midi clock?

  • @hooligram Yes it does (incl. Start & Stop)...via USB.

  • Great demo !

  • How many synths can you control simultaneously with the Dark Time?

  • @eliassailor it can control 2 different MIDI channels. Also GATE 1 & 2 and CV 1 & 2.

  • Very curious, what would I need to control a micromoog with the dark time??

  • @westerrnredcedar you will need a trigger converter - the moog has switch trigger and the DT uses +5V trigger voltage. If your Moog has MIDI installed, then it works through MIDI.

  • Hi Elektro Freak ,

nice/ cool Video , the old problem its the hardware/money

    BRAVO from Düsseldorf

    Ringhausen

  • the titles you did look sweet, like an old french noir film

  • stylisher Anrufbeantworter ! :o)

  • Cool demo! I recently got the Dark Energy (love it)... was thinking of getting the Dark Time as well! :-)

  • really stupid question can i use that with the software synths ?

  • @nierealnaKOLABORACJA in fact you should...its a midi controller also!! ;)

  • Hi! Great video! The sequence with the TQ-5 kicks ass! Would it be possible to use the external signal processor on the MS-20 to convert the gate signal from the Dark Time in order to trigger the MS-20 with the Dark Time correctly?

  • Nice demo. Could the Dark Energy be used to sync the tempo of a voltage-controlled synth and a digital synth?

  • cool demo, i need one now :-)

  • Great demo, thanks. I have been waited so long for a Dark Time that I gave up and purchased a Oberkorn instead. For a hundred dollers more you get much more sequencer then the Dark Time. But no wood sides :(

  • @mattsynth Thanks! Well, the Dark Time has full MIDI implementation, so I can control every synth in existence with it - not only voltage conrolled synths. A very important feature for me.

  • Please excuse my ignorance. but will a Korg MS 20 along with a Kenton pro mk11 (midi to CV converter) somehow be able to work as a trigger converter and communicate with the Darktime?

  • @gweisolos I don't know... I am not familiar with Kenton stuff.

  • @gweisolos yes im pretty sure it will

  • Brilliant stuff! Good demo of the Dark Energy and I love the sequences you are creating!

  • fantastic , i want one and i love how the TQ5 sound at 3:22

  • Hi, thanks for the demo, very enjoyable and informative. You have just confirmed that I am going to get one of these. A quick question if you don't mind though.... most of my synths are midi, so no problems there but I was wondering how you hooked it up to your MS20? I would like to hook up my MS10.

Does it send S-Trig or only gate? Also, I saw the comment above saying that it doesn't matter about whether it is Hz/oct or V/oct but what do you mean that you cannot use the quantizer? Thanks!

  • @donpepperoni0 Hi, the Korg MS series work with a switch trigger, not a 5v trigger like the doepfer system. You need a trigger converter - I use the A-165 module.

The quantizer turns analog voltages to musical intervals (12 half tones). The quantizer is designed to work with 1V / Okt standard. Hz / Oct will not work properly. In the video, I switched the quantizer off.

  • @AnalogAudio1 Ahh, ok, got it! So its quantizing pitch, not time! Shame about the different gate/trigger formats, especially as I don't have a modular. Another thing to add to the shopping list! Anyway, thanks for the help and I am already looking forward to your next demo!

  • @donpepperoni0 You won't have problems with the MS-10 cv.Yes it does comply to the Hz/V system but if you look carefully at the patch panel you will come across a patch point which is labelled V/Oct.Use that one instead & you'll be fine. The Korg dudes were always generous with options. As for you not having a modular...you can get the module without housing it somewhere, at least not imminently.Hope thiw helps...

  • Great video!

Do you think the dark time would work well with my Little Phatty?

  • My Dark Energy wants to become friends with this monster :)

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • TQ-5! I wish I could get my hands on a memory card for mine.

  • this is brilliant. especially 1:57 onwards...pure Raymond Scott!

  • this sends hz/volt for the ms-20???

  • @lobit12 this makes no difference, you just can not use the quantizer.

  • @AnalogAudio1

so... harder to write precise melodies?

  • Comment removed

  • Respect the TQ-5. I was just rubbish but i had one and made a lazer harp sound with it.

  • Sehr geil! Meiner kommt nächste Woche.

  • Hi Chris, tolles DT demo video!

  • It sounds like the old Atari Games tunes.

    Nice. But not special tmop

  • Great demo !

    Thanks !

  • Hi Chriss, very imposant der Sequenzer. Wenn ich nicht schon zwei hätte, wäre er glatt ein Kanidat für mich. Mein Dark Energy und der Dark Time das wäre schon eine feine Sache. Mal sehen....

  • and the MFB URZWERG is also a superb budget sequencer

  • Congratulations on being the first to demo this thing. Excellent presentation as always. Thank you!

  • Nice demo! Interesting how many ways that sequencer can run. Pretty handy format too! Well done

  • Aleady ordered but not yet received! Sweeeeeet!

  • great gear thats one i want to have too.

    thanks for sharing

  • Seems like a great device. I think a must have for the ones who want to experience the wonderful world of analog sequencing.

  • need one

  • I'd like to understand how this works. The sound is not actually from the sequencer, is it made in the gray box and then transmitted, called and steered by the sequencer?

  • @camouflage81 Hi, yes, the Doepfer DarkTime sequencer makes no sound and is just sending MIDI information over a MIDI cable to that grey box synth. It's sort of like a standard MIDI keyboard controller that has no sounds but controlls a rack synth, except it's automated. ;-)

  • Coolness!

  • Habe ich was verpasst? Der Dark Time ist schon draußen?

    Klasse Demo mal wieder!

    Cheers

    Dennis

  • Good demo and must have product. Thanks for sharing this!

  • 01:18 OMG! Love it...

  • JAWOLLO!

  • were can i get 1 from .

  • @floatershaw from your Doepfer dealer or from Doepfer in Germany. It will be available in February / March 2011.

  • Awesome Samples, really reminds me of those Show Bumpers ;)

  • Cool demo, thank you very much!

  • This unit is reminiscient of a Klee sequencer in that the sequences are not necessarily linear. My favourite bits are the ones with the TQ5 and the Odyssey.
