My Dad ran the 611 on the Heart of Dixie excursions from B'ham to Chattanooga in the late 70's & early 80's . Brings back a lot of memories and a few tears as I miss him. him.
I was one of the lucky ones to be on her final excursion from Birmingham to Chattanooga in '94, i was 4 years old then...I haven't seen the 611 in person since that night after we returned to Birmingham. I plan on going up to Roanoke and visiting her again, and by God I'm gonna ring that bell. I pray that NS brings her back during our lifetime.
I usually do the same thing when I visit. I never got to see this glorious lady in action, and I'd love to see her under steam one day. Being a native to Virginia like 611 give me a special draw to her.
Neither did I. I'm drawn to 611 because she has a unique past and not to mention, the most power passenger engine ever built, who which lives only two hours away from my home.
I'm glad you like my videos, and there will be many more. :)
The cabs are open, but they are sealed with glass so you can only look into the cab interior. They usually have one of the cab windows open so you can get a good picture of the cab interior.
Isn't #1218's bell located roughly in the same spot on her? I've never heard her bell real well.

I was lucky enough to see her in action twice and caught it on film once when I was 4. I just posted it on here. I would love to see it again.
