... yes, you never saw Bette without a butt. I remember her as an arrogant, militant smoker. If someone objected to her smoking, she told them nice to piss off. That was Bette, her way. Just saying.
What a shallow person! Now that I am older and wiser. I see that Bette Davis was an obsessed BITCH! I take her daughter's side! I don't think she knew what a charity was or an underdog. She had it easy! That is the irony of her BULLSHIT saying, "I did it the hard way!" Fuck You Bette! YOU FOOL! You were WEAK! You don't fool me!
While Joan did make the catty move of asking the other nominees to accept on their behalf if they couldn't make it, Joan didnt really have the clout to "campaign against" Bette.
Besides, that story of Joan keeping the Oscar for a year was proven false while Bette was still alive- Anne Bancroft herself said Joan brought the Oscar to her a little over a week later. There were pictures in the papers showing it, but Bette went along with her version....
... what made it look worse here was she had a stroke and still kept on smoking. I thought maybe she would have tried to give up the cigs because of her condition. But Bette being Bette kept on smoking. I still find it a turn-off to see her smoke. It certainly did not glorify her in any way.
i just love her..celebrities are no longer as classy and smart as these amazing legendly star bette davis marlene dietrich joan crawford...in life once in awhile the universe gives us little presents and bette davis is certainly one of them...keep ur lindsays and britneys and lady gagas...i will take my bette davis ne day!
This crazy woman has had a stroke and still has to smoke that cigarette. She would have lived to 110 if she never smoked or drank. Just making it to 81 is a modern science miracle. She was a great actress thou. Thanks Bette
@stephen39217 Most likely she felt that at her age it was one pleasure she had left that she would not give up. My father at 75 had breathing problems and needed oxygen yet he continued to smoke-he said at his age it was all he left.
Can someone tell me, why she would come into our Prime Minister Gillards page and tell me off for using Kate Jacksons profile, which happened to be me mind you. Then said she was going to tell Kate Jackson i was using her profile ?
Then went on to tell me that she was the Queen Elizabeth who now owns the Spelling Mansion. ??
I loved her so much as an actress and to see her become a shell of her former self was sad to watch....SHE STILL IS THE BEST HOLLYWOOD EVER HAD TO OFFER!God love you Bette....
Bette and Joan were both very competitive actress but i think they really respected each other, Joan knew Bette was a better actress and Bette knew Joan was more of a Hollwood STAR,and very well liked. The sad thing is they both had daughter's who were jealous of there carriers and wrote scathing book's about them, they both had more in common then they realized. There daughter's should have been proud instead of spoiled rotten brat's.
But it's true that Crawford made sure she would be the one to accept the Oscar if Davis didn't win. This was definitely revenge against Bette. And then Bette, to get revenge against Crawford, turned the cast and crew of Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte against her and caused her to withdraw from the film.
Bette was a true legend. Todays actresses will never match her. I loved it when she once said that the most fun she had was pushing Joan Crawford down the stairs in the Baby Jane movie.
Yes, Bette Davis was spectacular. You don't find that kind of commitment today. But she suffered greatly in her private life, because of the choices she made in her career.
Reading opens up a whole different world to you that you never dreamed of. Keep on reading.
Bette deserved that Oscar, in fact, to me she won it! Leave Betty alone! She deserved that Oscar but no, they gave it that Crawford one!Leave her aloneeeeeeee!XDDD
Poor Bette, she hated the ageing process, she fought to the end, she was my idol, good, bad and everything inbetween. an amazing forceful unique woman....
Joan died first in 1977, and Bette died in 1989, joan would have been dead when this interview took place i'm thinking this was 87 or 88 after Bette had the stroke
she is an absolute icon, even after the stroke and the dishonesty of her daughter which she said devastated her she continued to work and act and do interviews shes a legend!!!!
it's interesting to see her bravery in the face of aging and illness... whereas Marlene Dietrich didn't even allow some of her closest friends and colleagues to come and see her - and here we have Davis showing old age to the entire world. wonderful.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Davis was around 77 or 78 in this interview, she died at 81.Marlene was in great health at 80 and she lived 90 years.I think Marlene mind was 100% till the end, that's why she didn't allow anybody to come to see her in her last couple of years.Marlene was a woman of great taste and grand style.Bette Davis wasn't
Bette matched her appearance to whatever role she was playing, no matter how unattractive she was. She was an actress of the highest caliber. No one matched her. Garbo, a classic beauty, always had to appear attractive in whatever role she appeared. Garbo was more a star, than an actress, although some of her work was commendable.
Marlene was a paranoid narcissist you twit! Bette had enough class to go on camera despite the physical damage by stroke. She continued living not pretending she was still a glamour puss!
But Bette's image and Marlene's image were so different. Bette was an actress till the end, Marlene was more of an entertainer and her looks were important to her. I know Bette admired Marlene a lot because of all the work Marlene did at the Hollywood Canteen (she mentions it in the interview with Joan Rivers)
Poor Bette she looked as if she were removed from her coffin for the interview.I guess she was gravelly ill of cancer several years before her final disease in 1989 at 81.
