I'd like to second "dod4luce" comments, I love watching the Herring Gulls where I work and the sound they make evokes childhood memories of holidays at the seaside. My work place has the same regular gulls visiting daily and I now take in dog biscuits to feed them as they are cheap to buy
Herring gulls are the greatest birds ever. I love the sounds they make. I love to watch them, they have such characters. They are wondeful, and long may the live beyond human life with any luck!!
The only good gull is a dead one! There should be laws to prevent owners of properties from allowing gulls to nest.
The pollution is unbelievable both in noise and in their mess and nests etc. Bottulism, e-coli, salmonella, lice, fleas and tics. They belong in the cliffs, NOT on domestic properties and its about time they were culled and made to go back to their natural habitat!!
And humans dont spread filthy diseases? My GOD you are so unintelligent. If it were not for us foul human species the herring gull would not be carrying so many diseases. Its OUR rubbish, our waste........ the crap us humans leave around that attracts them to our homes in the first place.
CULL the humans would be a better idea! WE are the parasites of this planet!!
They are getting more and more, and I am afraid someday they will be billions, just because they don't die and nobody attacks them. It's good these birds to be killed I think, but it's really hard. Once a friend of mine tried to save fallen baby Herring Gull, and then all the Herring Gulls in the neighourhood attacked him. they are bad bad bad and they are billions !
I hate Herring Gulls, this is the most horrible bird ever, nobody eat this bird, and they got baby birds in every roof in here, and they are quacking 24/7 I can't sleep at night. They are stealing food from people's balcony and even from their own hands while eating sandwiches. Cats and dogs are afraid of them, they eat everything, and they love trash meal, every morning all the trash baskets are upside down, and the street is full of trash because of them.
I had the same experience being attacked by a group of gulls after I ran out of food for them. But then I made them all line up and wait their turn and then they began to behave. Very intelligent birds with a "mob mentality" just like people in many ways.
Thank you for the comment. Seabirds are still being mercilessly slaughtered here in eastern Canada while thousands are paid to protect them. If any gov't official actually done their job the people wouldn't finance the conservative politicians. People shoot birds to let them rot near my home year round. Too bad we are so mindlessly cruel and absolutely corrupt to nature here in Canada.
