Just got rid of one of these commonwasp queens out of my flat now:if I havent it would have made a nest and frightened me and it would have become unbearable and dangerous to live here. All you dogooders who say"live and let live and that you cant blame the wasp for doing what it was doing"are stupid!
I jumped in bed one night and the heel of my palm when straight down on top of one of these bitches the size of a silver dollar. My neighbors were probably confused at whom I was screaming, "FUCK!" at at 2am. I beat it to death with a roll of trashbags, and even though several blows left it flattened, it took several hours to die completely.
And that was the tale of me vs. that fucking bitch wasp.
That queen says "I'll build my nest here, then later on my nuisances will pester you and spoil your bbq's and parties and invade your homes and businesses with their sweet tooths, horrible attacks and painful stings!"
zgrillo, wasps only eat dead carcases and other such things, they dont tend to spread pollen like honey bees do. i can live with honey bees. but wasps... omg one almost killed me.... im allergic to there poison... like, cardiac arrest allergic. i have to go to the hospital if stung from the midsection up. i fking hate wasps. at least bees mind there own buisiness, wasps go looking for fights...i hate them!
actually we do because the trees depend on cross pollination which is what the wasp does for the plants. without wasps there wouldnt be any plants or oxygen for that matter and we wouldnt exist
killing us meaning you are disturbing their nests. surely some nest are in places that make it become a nuisance. Since you dont understand anything. I cant reason with you. I would suggest doing your research more about wasps and pollination. if you are lazy, then go back to school
that's because they smell the sweat from you. some of them wanted to have a lick at your sweat because of the salt. for the ones that go to the house though, they accidentally trap themselves in the house. if you see one, trap it in a jar and let it free. I am actually a beekeeper for 5 years. this is why I know this stuff
The one that was flying on your ear is not going to bite you. if you were out in a park with no nests around, its trying to eat your sweat. its not going to bite you. but yes bees have a tendency to attack very rapid moving object such as birds. my bees at home attack swallows as they get too close to the bee boxes which is quite funny. but yes its hard to beat your fears which I understand.
There was one in my grandma's room. You could even hear the queen outside. It was huge. I was like. O_O OMGGG *hides under bed* seriously that was one big scary motherfucker. It was huge and the sound was scary.
I saw one of those too once. I found this HUGE yellowjacket that was about an inch long and a half an inch thick. I think it was an exiled queen looking for a new nest.
cool i am gonna look for this and get one...my friend got stung twice in 2 mins on monday!!! once stung is okay...have to deal with it...but rather not be lol in first place!!
shit for real? man there's a fucking wasp in my room at the moment and i'm still finding it? cause it's august and i don't wanna get sting by theses guys while i'm sleeping, what will happen to me if i got stunged?
And they also come after your drinks and food and picnics in summer making it unbearable to eat outdoors and if they don't get whatever they want from you that's when they turn nasty and sting. All this vespula vulgaris queen does is bulid nests, lay eggs, raise young and the workers come after you and bother you for sweet things in the height of summer and sting you then at the end of the season spawn more queens and the process starts again next year if weather conditions etc don't thwart them.
Ha. They dont sting you for food. They sting you cos when you try to swat them away they see that as you attacking them. If you just moved the food away from infront of them until they fly away they will not sting you. And they do eat bugs that feed on plants so they do have a use. If you were a wasp then you would try and get food and stuff for your young and your nest. So you cant blame the wasp. It is instinct.
But wasps follow anything sweet when eating outdoors, there is a way to stop them annoying you(and kill them humanely if you wish!). Half fill a jam jar with jam and then half fill it with beer. Place it well away from where you're eating where wasps are likely to congregate and fly(the usual places are around bushes and trees) and watch the fun as they eat the jam and drown! Hopefully they will leave you alone as they fly to the sweet treat unaware they will drown and die in the process.
But in the towards the end of the season they don't raise young, they lose the need to feed, and just go and search finding whatever is sweet just to keep themselves alive because after the height of summer the queen doesn't lay anymore eggs and the workers leave the nest in search of food and things start dying off. Worst time to get stung at the end of the season is when fruit comes off the trees and they get very drunk and aggressive on over-ripe fallen fruit such as pears/apples/peaches etc.
