When we were teenager in the same band called the Yardbrooms while growing up in the hood in Jamaica Trench Town/Waltham Park Road/Duhaney Parlk with Sly/Robbie/Bunny Wailer, we always new this day would come. All the rhythm tracks on my projects on my page were co-produced by Sly (Sly & Robbie) Dunbar at Channel One/Mixing Lab or Sonic Sound Studios Kingston Jamaica.
Played on 10,000's of studio tracks. Marley, Tosh, Bob Dylan, The Stones, No Doubt, Channel One house band. Countless hits, classic tunes & solid drum performances. Examples of his best studio & live work are all over youtube. Who would base their opinion of his drumming on this random 20 second solo snippet on youtube?

I am a big reggaefan .. but it is not the knowledge - it is the groove and the spiritual balanced setting of a reggaeband, which makes Reggae alive - by far not the technical skills... and sure also the way of multiplicating loops and metaphysical patterns without a stupid copyright ;)
Sly recordet more music than youre100 EU drummer together and he is a creater of reggae and dancehallmusic on more than 1000 hits .Now i`m 100% shure you must be innocent.
This is roots, the nitty gritty. sly can do what ever he wants behind the kit and its gonna be a hit. just because hes not doing a 20 minute double bass injected solo, get outta here with that shit.
well .. it is quite typical for my strange generation finding the heros always outside.
I was studying alot drummers the last years.. and I am 100% sure now, that there are 100s EU drummers, who are much better. Not everyabody is ready smoking joints,, thats all
Hey vzuani. are you freakin' kiddin' me? Take a look at some more Sly and Robbie videos. He's one of the original reggae drummers. A man who created styles that developed into specific, long lasting reggae rydims......get schooled mon....

Erik Stams is a lot more inspiring than this dude, this man has no good grooves and no feeling, I can play as a beginner much better than this character here

Dub isn't a style or technique of playing live music. Its what you do to previously recorded songs. The one drop is in alot of reggae songs that have been dubbed, tons in fact.
I know what Dub is. King Tubby for instance. But there is definitely a difference between One Drop and the way Sly plays. I think I disagree with you. Taxi Gang and Black Uhura sound like Dub to me. I like it all whatever you want to call it. Roots reggae, One Drop, Dub, experimental ...
We're getting off base. I was merely stating the fact that Sly is the MAN hands down and anyone who doesn;t know it should find a better recording which would prove it more than I can.
It's cool bredren. I don't have to be right all of the time, just most of the time. Nah just playin. I found it crazy people would criticize Sly. Sometimes drummers who aren't super flashy or who demonstrate chops get overlooked.
Yeah Sly is the man but dont get genre's mixed Dub came from versions which were instrumental versions of songs which Im sure u know but the 'dub' sound..anyway One drop is called so after a drumming style known to many reggae fans. It is simply the bass drum played at the same time as the edge of the snare with the drum stick reversed so that the Thick end hits the edge
How are some of you judging Sly from 21 seconds when he's done countless albums? Just check some of the vids up here haha. Sly, Horsemouth, Carlton Barrett, three reggae drummers everyone should know.
