I'm not a fan at all of Shelly Glover, and I have many beefs with the PC's on social policy issues, but I can honestly say I agree with her stance on this issue.

It isn't about funding; it isn't about funding principles; it isn't about abortion - it's about safety & humane treatment for others.

I'm disappointed with the liberals attacking them for this.

Wow... I'd suggest you go live in those countries for a couple of years if you're a woman (not as an aid worker, as a normal citizen) and then see if your opinion of the Conservatives cuts to foreign aid are that great.

@robbb661 It has to do with us helping people from whom we take natural ressources amongst other things. Keep exploiting people and one day they will revolt (not that we haven't seen that before right?) Look past just the expense and think that a kid who sees his father exploited by a Canadian mining company won't have much respect for our country. The least we can do is fund some of their social programs in return. Poverty often leads to anger, crime, terrorism in some countries etc.

@robbb661 "Socialism" as you call it (though it is more of a centre-left view) is what keeps our crime rate low (people not having to steal to survive), our economy strong (cheap education=more specialised workforce=less jobs moving out of country) and built this country. Going to far into it would be as bad as going to far to the right. There is no truth in extremes. As for your take on the countries discussed here, your simplistic view shows how little you know about international dealings

@robbb661 PURE communism or capitalism are both wrong. Pure capitalism/individualism means you better be 45' tall and bullet proof because no policeman will risk his life to protect you. Pure communism (from people I know who lived in communist countries) means people don't care: no reward for individual performance = no effort (human nature.) The truth is always somewhere in the middle, IMO we don't have a perfect system, but it's better than most (our neighbors' included)

Death as a fetus is preferable to years of abuse, beatings and the viscious cycle it encourages! One that is beating as a child will often end up beating his own child. If all the pro-lifers stopped focussing on aborted babies and instead focused on children in foster system, abusive situations... life would be much better for everyone!

Most women who abort are already mothers. Now they will have no have no way to limit the number of kids they want to have except via cheap & unsafe abortions. Nope, not even abstinence; rape is rife and marital rape laws are often nonexistent in these places. Safe abortion & contraceptives would reduce the number of women who are trying to care for eight kids with only enough resources for two, and reduce the number of orphans created by botched abortions. How's this not part of the issue?
