Freespace Did infact use real world Physics ... well as much as the could with the tech of the current time ... as for the Idea behind all the weaponds and Systems in the Freespace universe its all Therory and thay pulled it all off very well..
You did not understood. I was saying that it was BSG who ripped off from Freespace. I had just this thought while listening to this music here and remebring how fight in FS looked like.
Freespace doesn't favor the newtan's view of gravity. BSG is using "real" physics for all the space combat with their flight, weapons and tactics while freespace is, well, freespace.
Oh yes, BSG was so real that they had stealth interceptor IN SPACE. IN SPACE godammit, where it is enough that you put something 1 degree above temperture of vacuum and it is bright for sensors like sun for eyes. Their answer to this problem was "hey, so lets paint it in dark and turn off the lights during flight-nobody will see that".
Honestly? I didn't even know. I watched only some of the first season before getting bored. Too much drama, not enough space opera :)
But I do know that a craft can hide it'self to scanners, in sci fi at least, by using external heat sinks to make itself appear as cold as it's surroundings.
lol The distances in space are so large that seeing the craft would come long after detecting it.
External heat sink? So were is this external heat sink and why it does not appear on sensors? Besides, even so interceptor would be spotted simply because of optical sensors-you can actually see small thrusters of NASA shuttle when in use, even if shuttle would be around asteorid belt. With use of small telescopes. So...
S'called science fiction bro. You want to get even a fraction of realism in there, Freespace 2 gets thrown out the window a long time before BSG does. The "External heat sink" is from two sources in which a special form of heat sink was used in science fiction to dissipate heat before it can leave the ship, and level it out with the surroundings.
Also: Future ECM could make an object nearly invisible to any kind of sensor. As sensory tech develops, so does stealth tech.
i have 11 mp3s from Freespace... god it was difficult 2 find... : Ambience, Joshua, Credits, Numbers, Victory theme, Aquitaine-deck, Galatea-deck, oldcredits and 3 other battle themes from 1 & 2 part FS + 1 calm from some movie...
Google for "fs2btlg01.flac" and you will find it...
The web will be black with file names... the music is in unknown flac. format & cut in parts (usually1-3)... 1 time it's not in order... I've decoded them to mp3 & put together with WavePad... I've tried 2 put a link but Utube doesn't like me ^^
Still doesn't like me... Damn those link restrictions... i've tried even space after each "/" or "." on fileshost link...
Gosh... emmm i don't know... maybe create a trashmail & pm my account here... i'll try to send them 2 u via e-mail... if you are skillful enough i'll pm you link to my hosted mp3 & you will put a link here xD
f**k with modern graphics... voliton could do a f**king good game about fs3 ... and cos space sims are out it could be the renaissance of space sims, i like these kind of music they r halucynogen like progressive house :P
This is truly one of the greatest game tracks ever made. I've spent years looking for this track. I wonder if anyone has ever noticed the use of snippets of this track in major Hollywood movies. Thank you Kuppapotilas!
I wish Kuppapotilas (video uploader) would upload an .mp3 of this... seriously this particular one (which is the best one by far) is impossible to find!
yeah man definitely... especially THIS particular song because it's incredibly rare... Volition never released the .mp3... and it's my favourite song...
No, I do believe I'm right. I've heard this in the briefing of 'Return to Babel' the mission right after the Sathanas gets blown up and you return to the nebula to arrest Admiral Bosch.
P.S. I like how the Vasudan briefing you claims we are technologically superior than the Shivans even though the Sathanas clearly would've owned the Colossus with even 50% of its total firepower XD
@Kuppapotilas is the company that made this game still around, because i only have the demo and im trying to get all of my classic games together so i can play them again. Please respond.
There's an unofficial add-on called "Freespace: Inferno" I think. humanity goes back to Earth to find out that the "Earth humanity" has taken a different path and have become aggressive and hostile, even to the GTVA. A new "civil war" begins.
Ya know if everyone piches in I bet we all could create a fan based game. Its an idea but it's possable. I mean the softwear is now free wear after the company left. FREDs always an option, it sounds good to me. anyone agree?
Очень сетлые воспоминания. Музыка как вспоминаю КАК это было. И насколько это было круто. Слезы на глазах. Лучшая игра про космос.

Just compare Freespace 2 with BSG TV serie. Somebody was ripping off here, I tell you...
Zarrov 2 years ago
Well actually, Freespace is really really really similar to Babylon 5, not Galactica. The aesthetic, music style, storyline... and other things.
KillahMate 2 years ago 2
Storyline? Not much...
Eglab 2 years ago
Well, Shadows = Shivans, old rivals uniting against the new threat... Some elements are similar.

Oh. Yeah, I misunderstood. You might be right, but I don't think the producers of BSG play much computer games.
KillahMate 2 years ago
I couldn't agree more. I got that impression when watching one of the Babylon 5 movies.
