You may have said and I missed it ,But is it fair to say that both amps are identical but for a different speaker set up, one with 2x12 and the other with 4x10.I do have a method to my madness ha Thanks for any help.
I love this amp so much! When you crank most of the amps up, they sound like a loan mower. This amp doesn`t leave you with that kind of sound. I use only the lead channel (I turn my guitar volume down for a clean tone). I`ve got Pre-Gain on 6/12, Post on 12/12, bass 8, mids 6, treble 4, reverb 4, presence on 0. Master volume is changing of course but I never turned it pass 4/12. I didn`t have to. I play on Gibson SG special and custom made LP. I play blues/rock or southern rock
i got an older style classic 50 410 and it doesnt really sound like this. it sounds better in my opinion. wonder if they get better with time as the tubes "break in" or if mines modded?
in lead mode it sounds better than an orange, vox and marshall all together, especially if you play with a les paul, it really has the classic rock tone of an old marshall
Can anybody help me on deciding what tubes to swap on this classic 50? Im looking for a high gain lead (blackstar, bogner) and a medium clean (standard peavey meets vox). I run a couple of pedals thru there also..but I would love to rely on the true tubes for the distortion...appreciate any help you guys can give.
the best thing about it is how well the master volume and the other volume/drive knobs work together.
This is a tube amp you actually can play at bedroomlevels, with the amp still sounding full and rich.
I played a fender hot rod too in the store, sounded good too, but it sounded way to flat at low volumes, and too make it sound full you really had to crank it
I was lucky enough to buy a Classic 50 when they first came out. The rare Blues Classic, with the one 15' speaker, that they only made for 2-3 years. The first amp I've ever purchased and I will never sell it!! They don't get much better than this! Beats out any big name or boutique manufacturer any day! Cannot say enough good things about it! Does anyone know where I can get a cover for this?
I love playing on my guitar teachers classic 50 410. it sounds absolutely amazing. and has tons of depth to the overdrive from soft to absolute screaming.
I had someone give me this amp a few years ago and I have had peavey, Marshall, laney, fender and boogie, this amp is the best sounding amp I have ever played through! I had one issue with the transformer, so I had it all replaced at my local shop. As far as the volume thing, I would check the pots and come on, dont right off the amp for that, see a professional and getter done! This amp is a keeper!
I have the Classic 50 4/10 with a Carvin tweed celestion vintage 30 2/12. uuuuh, smokin dude! To answer a couple questions that I have seen above. Mine is the older versioon, not the one in the pic with the oval Peavey on the front. I played a Classic 50 212 last night. I want to say that this is the best amp I have ever plugged into. Great reverb, crunch and a clean channel that matches Fender. Do not be scared by the 50w power if you still want to use it at home. I brought the volume down to where I could just hear it and it still sounded incredible. Do not waste your money on a Fender or Marshall. This amp has better clean and dirt than both of them. The price isnt bad either, for what you get (and you get alot).
Does anyone know anything about the Peavey Classic 50 head and the 412es cab? Just wondering, I love it, bought last one available, but I can't find any videos or anything on it - or what anyone else thinks of it.
Sorry, I was just wondering which extension cab i could couple with the classic 50 410 because i've already checked it's manual, and it doesn't say, and i don't know 'cause i've just ordered the amp and was trying to do some research some info about a 410 extension cab
BUT I`m just wondering what the impedance of the external speaker out is, 'cause i'm planning to get this amp and just don't know what another 410 cab to use with it because of the impedance, i mean an Engl Classic 100w which is 16 Ohms or any other 8 Ohm ?!!
I've had a Classic 50 for about 12 years and about 2 years ago it began to malfunction. At random the volume cuts out a bit, then randomly returns to normal, so it's rendered unusable live. I've not been able to determine the problem, but a friend that's had one as long as me said he had the same issue and that it's practically not fixable (for very long). Anyone have any ideas? I did change the tubes (all of them).
I had a vintage tweed 100 watt w/ 2x12 combo year ago and it was a tone monster!!!! And really loud! Had a chrome control panel on top with chrome chicken head knobs, really a fantastic amp.
No, Peavey doesn't include it, but also doesn't add it in the cost. That way if a customer doesn't need a FS, they aren't paying for something that sits in the closet.
TBH, I sat down with the Classic 30 and 50, and the 50 sounded more organic and three dimensional due to the second speaker. It makes a subtle, but noticeable difference and, I think, warrants the price difference.
I bougth mine in 1993, and is getting old with to much dignity, sound amazing both chanels, and the 12" speakers handle heavyness so nice when I push de overdrive channel with ,my BB+, I´m going ti keep this amp forever
i just bought mine used but it looks different. mine doesn't have the peavey logo on top and the "classic 50" is located on top instead of on the bottom.
u have one of the cooler ones ;-) i don't like the "new" peavey look, but i guess they had to make them more peavey like, cause a lot of peepz seemed to think that these are fenders...especially when you took off the peavey badge on the bottom and had only the fender like "peavey cassic 50" one left on top. on stage you could easily mistake them for fenders then. well, i did the first time i saw one.
Arg...sold my original peavey classic years ago...that thing took almost an entire beer spilled down directly into the control panel....it burped...smiled and kept going. Should have never sold it...
Are the 'original' ones the ones with the black cabinet and black grill cloth? if so I may be purchasing one. And even if it isn't the original series, I'm still stoked out of my brain. :) and for $280 bucks!! I'm suppeeerrrrr stoked.
I played through one of these at my local music store the other day. I think it was a 1x15 though. The clean sound is AMAZING. I didn't really like the overdriven sound though. I would probably go out and buy some sort of boutique overdrive pedal (ie. Liquid Sunshine) if I got one of these.
i have a hot rod deville and a peavey valveking. fender amps are better than peavey i think. but for harder stuff i say peavey, but i prefer fender. dont get me wrong peaveys are great i love them but my hot rod deville 212 is my baby
Deville's drive channel blows. I own both and the peavey drive channel is stacks nicer for blues especially. It's not as thin and crunchy as the devilles. The deville has a great clean channel, it's quite good. I'd make your choice on what channel or sound you want most.
I had one the 2x12), but got rid of it due to the overbearing mid to high spike.... i'm thinking of getting it back and putting in some JJ tubes and Eminence Cannabis Rex's

No, they just have different tonal characteristics. Personally I like the mids from the 410.

im lookin into this or the fender blues deville
any suggestions?
guitarshredda2 3 years ago
I'd say this because
1) Drive channel sounds amazing
2) Has a true master volume (fender hot rod series reaches max volume around 4 and then starts breaking up, not true master volume)
3) It has a nice distinguishable clean channel
if youre looking for fendery types of clean, I'd say go for the Deluxe Reverb Reissue or the bassman

ignore the master volume comment he made, tube break up is what u want.
