Lateef Crowder. The really amazing thing about this scene was that it was meant to go for much longer, but had to be cut short because he had an injured ankle. An injured ankle! Imagine what he could have done at 100%!!
The capoeira fighter is beaten because of his arrogance. Obviously he can beat Tony Jaa but he is too full of himself and does not observe his opponent who observes to adapt to the challenger fighting style. So it's not about the fighter style or ability it's about intelligence and patience
These styles are both excellent. I have no favorite. I do teol moon karate wing chung which is (ip mans style) its great. But I love every martial art XD
lateef crowder must be the real deal in hollywood he always doing stunts for good movies......hunger games, double tap, sucker punch, wonder women, ncis, book of eli, avatar, and a couple more.
@Isynno you have it backwards. capoeira was an African/native American interpretive dance that was developed by the African and native American slaves that were owned by the Portuguese in what is now brazil. after the slaves started rebelling against the Portuguese, they reinvented it for combat. Capoeira was a dance, but it is now very much a martial art.
Once upon a time yes but when it came to teaching it in the west the interpretive dance side of it attracted way more students. now any western Capoeira is not a martial art.
The clues in "Martial" meaning war would a soldier ever use capoeira
That was Muay Thai, if it were the true ancient Muay Boran that the soldiers used to fight with after losing their weapons, a martial art created solely for the purpose of killing the opponent, Capoiera wouldn't have stood a chance from the start.
@tomas1151 In simple tersm its 8 point boxing. You are alowed to use knees elbows punches and kicks. another note is that they use there shins to striek with instead of there feet.
i saw movie about Tony Jaa and what i can say that this guy trained capoeira as a child not only capoeira judo taekwondo...But the main martial art is Muay Thai for him,so he is just awesome!!!
You have good insight. It DOES incorporate dance movments. Capoeira is a martial art that combines fighting, dancing, and music. I practice it and it's awesome. :)
Capoeira looks almost like it integrates elements of dancing into the fighting style. I'm sure someone skilled in the art would be an amazing fighter, don't get me wrong, but it has a strange sort of grace.
any style can beat any style. just depends on the fighter. often simply depends on who sinks the first punch. in real life you can't handle sixteen punches and be fine. usually only takes 1 or 2
@muaythaitilldeath1 Naw, wouldn't say 1 or 2 lol... those be some pussy fighters. They don't JUST teach you moves in martial arts. There's "chin" training. But yea, noone's taking 16 shots and just fighting fine. But it's a movie...
@ClinchFighter911 My record of this year would be 3 - 1; of both amateur fights(I started last December) and out of ring fights. Yes my lost was due to gassing out, it wasn't because of Capoeira, I simply tried to keep Capoeira seperate from Muay Thai and lost. I mixed the both like any decent 'mixed martial artist' would do. It works for me, so I don't expect you to understand.
not quite, the guy that was getting beat up at the end was not him. It was a stunt double, if you look closely they never show his face anymore and he is a bit darker.
@underlordtico true true good point i did not notice this, still sad he was injured, Lateef was supposed to fight tony jaa again at the end of the film

E quem for começar a fazer capoeira vai em frente porque realmente vale a pena!
Tanto é que um dia ainda vou voltar a fazer capoeira,só não to agora porque não achei aqui na minha cidade!Se liga, enfrenta um lutador de capoeira pra vc ver o bonzão!
In my own humble martial arts opinion...NO DOUBT CAPOEIRA IS AN EFFECTIVE MARTIAL ART AS FAR AS COMBAT IS CONCERNED BUT TOO MUCH ENERGY IS WASTED ON THOSE MOVES....WITH DUE RESPECT TO THE ART.
In real fight i belive muay thai would win. I'm training muay thai like 3 months. And for those who think capoiera is better let me say this. Capoiera was a brazilian dance later turn in martial art but muay thai is the most complete and most hardest martial art on earth and has the very long tradition. Muay thai win no doubt
@GileraRunner50ccm Actually, it started out as a Martial Art, but was disguised as a dance, if I`m not mistaken. It was developed as a way to defend against the Spaniards when the African slaves would attempt escape. But Martial Arts were prohibited, so they disguised it as a dance. Alhough don`t let that warp your view, Capoeira is a very strong Martial Art. If they can fight against armored men with swords and guns, I dare say it had to be.
@GileraRunner50ccm I train in both Muay Thai and Capoeira and use them both in fights. Capoeira was born from slavery to fight, carefully read about the history or just go a class to find out how dirty it is. It isn't the style or even luck, it is the fighter. I have witnessed it in real life and in videos all the time.
@theprinceofspain capoeira was first made by the slaves in brazil, but then the portugees forbade the laves from doing it because they thought they would use it to rebel, so the desquised the fighting into this dance
@BirdiewasHere Brazil as a stronger cultural influence than Angola that's why in MY perspective capoeira is more knowned to be Brasilian martial art but, if you think for a second were does the slaves come from? Angola. The slaves were taken from a city called Benguela and if you really have studied capoeira you know that there is a style of "ginga" called Angola even the instruments used in the capoeira are angolan national instruments as the "Birinbau" i read that in a book here in a Angola
Lateef Crowder a.k.a the guy whos doing capoeira had an injury in his spine during this fight and you can see that around the ending of the battle the guy that Tony Jaa is fighting isn't the same guy. That's why they don't show Lateef's face around the ending. Also, Tony jaa is performing Muay Thai. Taekwondo, and i think some capoeira. Tony did take taekwondo. I met Lateef's master and he taught me some stuff. good guy!
While he would be pulling of this artistic crap I would have punched him in the nuts and guts several times... And his kicks in most of these positions have to be embaressilgly powerless... Was a good kickboxer myself once... Know what I'm talking 'bout. - Capoeira looks good, but completely lacks any efficiency.
@Rottwhaler82 I've trained in a hard style myself, and realize a lot of those kicks were probably for show, but you have to realize that some of those soft style kicks do, in fact, generate a lot of power due to the centrifugal force that those kind of kicks produce. Also, as a kickboxer, you would probably have a difficult time reading your opponent in an actual fight since his footwork would be completely non-linear and much different than you are used to. Its far easier to analyze a fight
@Rottwhaler82 a fight after the fact than it is while your in the ring. I found that out when I faced a kung fu stylist in a sparring competition, and it did take some time to figure him out
@ NoPixelz i wouldn't say capoeira is weak...it all depends on the warrior...i personally wouldn't do it because I believe it is too flashy...but in reality they don't street fight the same way they do in a roda...they change it so that you can use it in the street...but try taking one of those eddy gordo kicks to the face and we'll see how weak it is
This is the coolest fucking thing I have ever seen as far as martial arts go. I think I might maybe start to study it a little bit. As far as what style, I wouldn't know, but this is so cool though.
You boys should be a little less offensive. It all depends on the fighter and I will have to agree and say I've seen a guy get knocked out in one hit from a Capoeira fighter. Very interesting style indeed. ^^
