@cattitta0087 It's a reference to the drole de guere 1939-40 when the French were preparing for the Germans to attack. for nearly 6 months they continuously fired shells for no reason at all. The ineffectiveness of this was the butt of loads of jokes at this time. Maurice Chevalier does lots of songs about it as well. The boum in this case is a play on the french word for party and the noise of the artillery.

I love the French language and Charles Trenet singing this song makes the words roll along easily with his French accent.
