that one caterpillar that you are touching with the pen is one of the most poisonous caterpillars out there. its called the southern flannel moth caterpillar.
Damn, I wanna go there! Insects are my hobby. Judging by how many spiders that wasp collected she's starting up a good size family. I had a female pet mantis for a while. The girls can live a long time if they don't mate. The caterpillar's kind of cute. Looks almost like the creature from The Adam's Family. LOL! Geckos, bats, frogs -- sounds like my kind of place.
This is a mud wasp. They make tunnels of mud and capture a certain type of spider which they drug into a stupor. They later use them for food and then abandon the tunnel. After I disturbed the tunnel, the wasp was rescuing his food (in their drugged out state) and moving them to another tunnel.
I am really suprised at the wasp. Bees die after they sting. And that was its nest that had been knocked down, so it was retrieving its food. But bees do not hibernate I am curius why so many spiders
I've seen wasps that take spiders and bury them in holes in the ground that they dig and lay eggs in, the spiders are for their offspring to eat when they hatch. They fill the hole in then scatter pebbles and twigs around it so no one can find it!

That was awesome, we just returned from CR and saw many of the same bugs, but didn't document them nearly so artistically

It's a moth larva. There's a very similar one in Texas, known locally as an asp. The "fur" will sting you if you touch it.

Very entertaining, all of those doomed spiders was creepy as hell, they were all like half paralyzed and shit. You don't need an exterminator.
Tonberrycactuar 5 years ago
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Oh my gosh... I never saw a wasp walk home before. If you can't fly, walk? Yes, you do need da bug bomb, quick.
