Liza and Shirley Bassey...they don't make such dramatic & powerful singers performing in the Cabaret style anymore. Shirley and Liza are good friends, and the elder Bassey was also friends with Liza's mother, Ms Judy Garland, back in the late 50's when she was just starting into show business herself. Judy was Shirley's idol growing up, so it's wonderful they became friends. Hopefully, Liza fans will enjoy the attached video of Shirley performing one of her signature songs, I Am What I Am.

There are certain actresses who are so identified with incredibly strong performances in certain movies that it is difficult for them to ever be cast again for a long while. This happened to Faye Dunaway in "Mommie Dearest". Liza always seemed to be Sally Bowles no matter what she did. She came to Austin, Texas once when I was a kid with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. I remember looking at the names on the billboard as the car kept going and watching the names disappear.
