ACTUALLY CORELLI OFTEN DID HIS OWN THING AS FAR AS THE COMMENT THAT HE EXPECTS THE ORCHESTRA TO FOLLOW BUT HE SINGS IT LESS LYRICALLY THEN IN 1949 AND ACTUALLY I THINK IT'S JUST ABOUT AS GOOD ANYHOW AND CAREFULLY SUNG, PERHAPS NOT HIS BEST EVER ARIA. THE SPEED MAY BE A LITTLE FAST SO THE C IS PERHAPS UP A LITTLE BUT THAT'S NOT HIS FAULT.
Admittedly, this was Lanza's inferior recording of this aria. Check his benchmark and award winning 1949 version. This is typical Coke show, too fast and badly arranged by the inadequate Callinicos. Unmusical (is that a word?). Lanza had an innate sense of musicality (is THAT a word?)
"incredibly unmusical"? WHY? how about some considered comments?
among lanza's many singular talents was his understanding of the balance between the voice and the music. he always "worked" with the orchestra, which is what the composers intended. pavarotti, on the other hand, proffered his voice as the more important element and the public blindly accepted it.
watch any video and note how he never "checks" with the conductor. he simply expects to be followed by the orchestra. arrogance!

Unspeakably beautiful. There cannot be a voice such as his, it's just impossible. Thank you for this wonder.
