a camp cot is a must have in sub zero camping. don't waste money on inflatable beds. also long underwear,t-shirt, sweat pants and dry clean socks, and a toque. go to sleep on a camp cot and a good sleeping bag dressed like that and you will not wake up untill you have to pee in -30

@dreamssofblue I agree with your ideas about wearing long johns, socks , gloves and a toque, but must disagree about the cot----up on a cot, you have cold air underneath you as well as on top, making it very cold. You are RIGHT about an inflatable air mattress, same thing, cold air underneath you. I have had great success with a closed cell foam pad commonly known as "Ensolite" and the combination blow-up/foam pad commercially known in the US as "therma-Rest".

@dreamssofblue One more thing at "dreamsofblue"---a 20 oz Pepsi bottle is your fiend at about 4:00 AM. If you are careful, you don't even have to get out of your sleeping bag to pee. None of this getting out, getting dressed and going outside of your nice warm tent. "Careful" being the operative word here LOL

There's no mention of merino wool, a must for any layering system imho!

@strawpanda Yes indeed, merino wools for baselayers, and more coarse wools for mid and outer layers.....and of course plenty of wool blankets!  :)
