kieran9093 you made this old fart laugh out loud by himseld with your comment.poms had john peel and tony wilson.we got molly and gavin though in fairness sounds with donnie sutherland wasnt bad.
I remember a gig at The Astra Hotel in Bondi, must have been 1980 or 81 during the Of Skins and Heart tour - from that night on I was a life long fan.
come on...it is COUNTDOWN....sure they were all secretly dying and just keeping the record execs happy....cant believe the idiot record producers at the time though it was not rock enough....the blurred crusade is one of the greatest albums ever made
fave church song - fond memories of driving somewhere and having this on jjj and waiting outta respect for this to finish before leaving said mentioned car!
wow. Seeing the Church lip sync to screaming teenage girls is a bit weird. Forgive my ignorance, (I'm a Yank) but was this show kind of an Aussie equivelant of American Bandstand? It seems about as cheesy. Oh and I've read that Richard Ploog is working as a gardener in Sydney.
@Nigelxman Your 100% correct about the cheese and Bandstand comparison. In Oz in the 80's we had an abundance of killer live bands and venues.Your worth back then was how good you were live. When they played on this show Countdown in the TV studio, they were forced to lip sync even though they resented it. However, it was the biggest platform to launch a new single/album. Bands like The Church here, mocked the shows producer by not singing into the microphone or play their instruments properly.
yeah Gav they're still together.....hahahaha . No handed guitar playing!! - I think Steve was deciding that miming was a cr*p idea. And he wanted to show it! Marty-the same gorge rickenbacker- you still have it don't you? And where''s the Ploog-meister now? Not rip as I keep hearing I hope?
I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!
It's interesting that intro seems to suggest there were rumors of them breaking up. I wonder if that wasn't fall out from Nick Ward leaving and Richard Ploog replacing him.
And yeah it's a shame they're underrated Stateside. Sad thing is, most Americans probably view them as a "one hit wonder", much like Thin Lizzy, another band who had a long career of creating inventive rock music, but are known in the US for more or less one song.
I LOVE the fact that this was in 1982, 26 years ago(100 lifetimes ago?), and there were rumours of the band breaking up but the rumours were not due to the replacement of Nick Ward as that had happened a year and a half previously. Peter quit the band around this time to be talked back into joining again by Steve.
You have to love the fact that so many years later they are YES, STILL Together.
Wow, I hadn't realized that there was so much time between Skins And Hearts and The Blurred Crusade. It's funny you mention Richard being the one band member who isn't there anymore. If I'm not mistaken, Tim's been in the band for about twice the time that Richard was.
not that;s been released yet. There is a biography of Steve Kilbey by Robert Lurie in the publishing stages. Google Robert Lurie and Steve Kilbey and you'll find some info on it.
DONT READ THIS! In 1997 a girl called lauren was walikng in a forest and then a she just dissapeared no one ever found her untill 2000 when a yoing girl called Mary found her body and markings on her chest saying: I wasnt pretty enough" and now you have read this she will appear in your mirror saying your not pretty enough and kill you. by the way the girl called mary died shortly after. One of my favorite songs from the greatest band ever. Always a concert favorite, I hope somebody can post a live version video of this song. Too bad this version is not really live.
It's highly doubtful that the off timing of this was due to bad miming but this was probably converted to digital format from an old vhs tape and it can often throw off the video from the audio. Watch how the timing gets farther off later into the vid than it is at the beginning.
They made not have gotten the full on international attention they deserved, but they are my favorite band and an outright legend in my book!!!!! (Coming from an American!)
The Church on Countdown, those were the days!
