  • I like Workforce, he never ran his race this day.

At the time I didn't want to accept that Harbinger would've won the Arc (I backed Workforce for Guineas, Derby and Arc ante-post) cause I was biased but the way the Arc is run and with his finishing kick and strong travelling that year, he would've probably ran out a very comfortable winner.

    We'll never know :(

  • This was my wedding day i put a £1 lucky fifteen on this day on the way to the ceremony.I did'nt find out till the next day that harbinger a horse i had supported till this point this season had beaten my for £2000 four winners.8/1 4/1 10/1 and workforce 4/11.Remarkeble performance none the less and a had a good day anyway.

  • Shame he had to retire.

  • great too strong

  • He was a monster this day devouring the ground. They seem to go faster each time you watch this race. Great stuff.

  • assuming control

  • does anyone else think that this run was extremely out of the blue because harbinger had never shown anything like that kind of performance on a race course. He then was quickly retired and sold for ahuge profit i dont wana say foulplay but i think its just suspicious. i no horses improve but iv never seen a horse improve so much so late in life. just seems a bit suspicious thats all

  • @addyginsh look pretty silly slaggin cape blanco off right about now

  • I plan to visit all racecourses where this barbarism is happening and horsewhisper my solidarity in the ears of these brave, poor souls.

I will request these brave horses throw their riders, then stampede the racetrack officials into a pen and hold them to ransom until all racing is stopped in the UK.

Next, with a rumbling of hoofs and sprays of dust they will head to the docks and airports to spread out across the world and abolish this vile human entertainment

They will be free, oh yes.

  • @sweetypie000 sorry but its called competition horses like every animal are competetive with there own kind. dont bother writing anything if ur gonna cum out with that hippy nonsense. no one loves horses more than owners , jockeys, trainers and real racing fans. if u think that a horse wud rather live in the wild than be loved and treated better than most humans in this world are then ur a fool so stop embarrassing urself.

  • @TheDarleyarabian why would I be embarrassed, I'm not the one who promotes animal cruelty.

  • @sweetypie000 : horses love to run , if they were set free animal control would take them in and give them no homes so they would be put down you're fool think about it plus they are domesticated animals wouldnt get along in the world they would all end up dying and thoroughbreds have many health problems , why dont you go protest about animals been kept in cages or hit to perfom horses are bred to do that without horse racing we would have alot worse horse wastage problem

  • @harrypotterfreak65 im glad im not the only one who thinks that sweetypie is a fool who knows nothing, just blurting out nonsense without even knowing the facts. animal cruelty yeah rite.

  • @TheDarleyarabian : haha yeah i'm glad as well everyone i know calls it animal cruetly without knowing anything about the sport . if horses didnt love to race we wouldnt have superstars like frankel & so you think just to name two :)

  • Love it everytime I watch it but wasn't youmzain a champion aswell

  • Horse Racing Chat, check it out on Facebook.Share your views.

  • They have removed the race from You Tube and also on BBC rerun edited the film. People ought to be made to see what can happen to a horse, don't sanitize it.Harbinger was an amazing racehorse and it was wonderful to see such a win. Workforce clearly does not like Ascot at all. He threw away the race yesterday. As Willie Carson said if he had run straight he would have won. As for Rewilding -terrible bad luck but shit happens every day, things that you cannot legislate or anticipate.

  • RIP Rewilding

It is not good enough so many horses die in this sport. England has no consideration for these poor animals forced to do this barbaric 'sport'.

It is not good enough these horses are used for high priced sports and when they break a leg are destroyed and cast off.

Money is, as usual, taking preference over moral decency and animal welfare.

There have been something like a minimum 500 deaths of horses on UK horse tracks this year alone

    Animal abuse absolutely.

  • @sweetypie000

why are you even on this video if your against the sport, the thoroughbred horse would die out if it wasnt for this sport, the amount of precautions race courses take these days to try and prevent things from happening is unreal, like a qualified vet said after the race Rewilding could have done that running around a field at home, so go away if you dont like the sport

  • @joemynes Ah, So thoroughbred horses only exist as a breed because man the grerat decides it's future and that it is worthy to race for cash ? What kind of cu*t are you ? You, like most humans, think these creatures that have existed for millions of years are your property to do as you please and wipe out if you want.

The fact is that horse did not break its leg running around (unpressurised) in a field but was forced over an arduous coarse by humans with no morals or care.

    YOU are a TWAT

  • @sweetypie000

No they dont only exist because of horse racing but that is central to the breeding, either that or leave them all to stand in a fucking field all day, are you just against horse racing or are you against everything in which horses are used? and secondly why are you even on this video to spout your boring tree hugging shit, i wouldnt turn up to one of your fucking protests so go away you clown, the fact is that injury to re wilding could have happened anytime like John Gosden said

  • @joemynes You do very much sound as if every creature on the planet has a soul purpose to entertain ppl like yourself ! You sure have a high & mightly opinion of mans standing in the world !

What IS a field ? do you see a 'field' as an encatchment surrounded by barbed wire for man to covet creatures ? this is where you fail.

This is about HORSES. For 'tree hugging shit' please follow my other video comments contributions :)

You appear angry and your soul blackened, do you eat meat ?

    xXx

  • @sweetypie000

No not everything, you must know these horses are treated better than a huge majority of humans in the world, fed, groomed, trained and sheltered every day, and by 'field' i mean just a regular stable/farm where horses wouldnt be treated anywhere near the way they are because of racing, and yes it's about horses, and it's people like you that are too defensive when it comes too a small perecentage of unanticipated accidents e.g. rewilding, it happens, no one enjoys seeing it!

  • @joemynes people like you will never understand. Get off your high chair and get with the program.

the queen lives better than you or me. The point ? none, just like your stupid analogy.

the racecourse enjoys the money and the punter enjoys the gamble. the only thing losing is the horse

get some soul, you could be human

  • @sweetypie000 haha get off my high chair, you do talk some rubbish, and the queen explanation you gave means absolutely nothing, hypothetically speaking if the horses had the choice of being a racehorse or living a normal life i know which one they would choose, the racecourse enjoys the money and the punter enjoys the gamble AND the horse enjoys the highest standard of living than basically any other animal, your fighting a losing battle here pal because the sport is only getting bigger...

  • @sweetypie000 people like you never understand you start something before get facts , you dont understand HORSES ARE BRED TO RUN LOVE TO RUN

  • @joemynes You know, I do support horse racing. But Look; Rewilding happened and now Kensei (multiple graded stakes winner) broke a cannon bone during a workout and was euthanized yesterday. Just few days back, two horses got electrocuted and died in England.. Not so rare.

There are many others that die regularly due to shoddy care by the "horsemen and agencies".. It's not like they are using the track payouts for actual welfare of horses. It is just a business and horses are inventory.

  • @naridon : horses are very fragile animals its very easy for that to happen , just like anyother animal , i love horses and when i grow up i'm going to train race horses i'd look afher them 110% do what is best for their welfare

  • @sweetypie000 : do you know anything about looking afher horses ? dude horse can not be a barb wired fence and it isnt for entertain i love seeing champions being made and people enterting people everyday in sports such as soccer , basketball those people hurt themselves every day and broke bones

  • @sweetypie000 : a thoroughbred existed for millons of years ? what you're the only twat here , a thoroughbred is bred from arabians and couple other horses , you're fool didnt think you were this stupid

  • First and foremost, Harbinger was just much the best horse in this race by a street. That said, what in this race about the way Workforce handled the surface at Ascot was so appealing that anyone believes he'll be able to win the King George in 2011? I think Workforce is a great horse at 12f. But I just don't believe Ascot is where he'll be seen at his best. Even if it rains prior to the King George? I just don't think he'll get the kind of cut he needs. SNA or Rewilding win's the King George.

  • On that form it has to be said that Frankle, Canford Cliffs and whoever the other best milers areound are would have a huge battle on their hands with this fella. Maybe it's not the best field in the world but you had the English and Irish Derby winners in their and look how far back they are when Harbinger crosses the line. You have to take your hat of to that performance. Excellent

  • Giving them all weight was one of the reasons this was so impressive. One of the most progressive horses from 3 to 4 I have ever seen.

Just such a shame we never had him have chance to confirm all of the form.

Workforce was not himself though, he did not gallop on. Nontheless, Harbingers cruising speed was amazing.

  • Looking bak he didnt beat much an uncooked workforce, cape blanco rubbish and so on!

  • @4743stephenf cape blanco rubbish? i hope u mean in this race? or else u not got a clue as of what u talkin about, cape blanco won the man O war stakes at belmont easy last nite beating gio ponti.

  • @4743stephenf the only rubbish here is your comment. He ran the fastest EVER King George and won by panels! What he beat is completely irrelevant. It's like saying Secretariat "didn't beat much" in the Belmont.

  • Outstanding performance by Harbinger. The way he powers away in the straight was magnificant. Would of won the Arc no doubt in my mind. This horse was on another level to any other horse racing in europe in 2010.

  • @SoulSurvivor79 i agree.Who cares about other years and horses and all that jazz, this was 2010,it doesnt matter what it beat,it WAS the best horse in 2010 and would of won the ARC.

  • What a fantastic horse he was. Its not as though he is racing a field of dromedarys, but he made them look like they were. 2m 26.78 at Ascot is phenomenal. It is a very tough mile and a half.

  • Timeform must be on drugs. Workforce who Ryan Moore chose over Harbinger was all wrong. Cape Blanco doesn't truly stay and I'd trust Delboy before I'd trust Youmzain.Time and time again horses are overrated by Timeform because they overrated other horses they beat. Harbinger was the Crand Cruz of the flat and looked brilliant beating nothing but as Big Tim says better than Mill Reef comes straight out of a comic book

  • Also after this race Cape Blanco (who didn't stay) was rated 115, He was later put upto 119. Winning by 11L is rated 16lbs (1L = 1.5lbs over 12 furlongs) So even if you decide to rate Harbinger on the 119 rating that gives him a rating of 135, Remember against a horse that doesn't stay. There is no doubt it's a good performance but quite where they get his rating (140) from i've no idea.

  • @Spursrule1969 harbinger was also carrying 12 lbs more. Or doesn't that count...

  • @somersetfan1 The 12lbs is weight for age, Horses are not fully matured until they reach the age of 4, So in championship races a 4yo carries more weight than a 3yo, Later in the year as a 3yo matures the weight difference gets reduced, (7lbs by the Arc')

Harbinger (4yo) didn't do anything what every other 4yo has to do. Also lets not forget when harbinger was a 3yo exactly 12 months earlier he was only rated 96. Thats how much a horse can mature between 3-4.

  • No wonder he won, he probably assumed control of the other horses.

  • yeeeehaaaaa

  • its always great to see a horse win like this

and such a great shame he never raced again.

cape blanco and workforce, he beat both derby winners fair and square and gave them weight. terrific performance.

  • @Katabatic77 It was a good performance but dont getb caried away, He beat Workforce fair and square. Workforce (128 rated) CLEARLY ran way below form, He struggled to get past his pacemaker (Confront rated 111) Confront was even eased down when he was in last place.

As for Cape Blanco he clearly doesn't get 12 furlongs, His only career win is the Irish Derby, Where he beat Jan Vermeer 2L, The two times Workforce ran against Jan Vermeer he beat him 11.5L and 12L. Clearly Workforce ran badly.

  • @Spursrule1969 When i say Cape blanco's only career win i meant over 12 furlongs.

  • We will never truly know the quality of Harbinger as he was prematurely retired. This race was fantastic though, great to see such a run. He set the course record this day. Nothing better than a wonderful thoroughbred galloping for fun and stretching his field. Also good he was owned by Highclere and not the mob from Eire or the super rich prince.

  • Anyone that saw the way Harbinger demolished a quality Hardwicke Stakes field the way he did had to suspect that the horse loved the ground at Royal-Ascot, and that it was highly possible that he would duplicate that same kind of run in the King George. But what was so impressive was the way Harbinger destroyed the King George field by an even wider margin of victory than he demolished the Hardwicke Stakes field. Still one of the singularly impressive run's I've seen in many, many years!! JMO.

  • The defence for Cape Blanco is for me he really is a 10f horse, he would be found out by better stamina horses over 12f.

  • Dunno we should question the opposition, Cape Blanco destroyed the Irish Champion and Workforce won the Arc next time out.

  • doesnt matter if it was a truly run race. any horse that can win a group 1 by 11l and beat the best around aswell is a very good horse. Maybe if there was a big field and strong pace then it could have been closer but this was one hell of a performance and one hell of a horse

  • This was a superb performance but in my opinion a falsely run race because of a small field:

Worforce needs a hot pace to settle in behind and he was tracking the leader the whole way round- he had nothing left at the end! Cape Blanco will gallop from start to finish so it suited him no problem.

Harbinger was one of two horses in the race who have turn of foot (along with Youmzain) and he just quickened clear.

We needed to see him in the Arc to truly judge him.

  • To think that Workforce went on the win the Arc after being humbled in this? One of the greatest wins you will ever see anywhere. Truely magnificent!

  • the only issue with this is that sea the stars should of been running (that would of been a truely great race), only a shame racing doesn't see the great horses train on due to money grabbing owners

  • Yep very impressive even Dancing Brave might have had to come off the bridle to win this!

  • @draxzula Nice!

  • I have no doubt that if Harbinger had made it to the Arc De Triomphe that he was certainly a good enough horse to have won the race. But I truly believe many people think Harbinger would've exploded away from the Arc field at Longchamp the same way he did the King George field at Ascot. That would not have happened. Because as I said prior, Harbinger was a course specialist at Ascot. If he had been in the Arc? He would've had a very close race on his hand's at Longchamp, IMO.

  • Harbinger was really a brilliant colt, and his King George victory turned out to be the crowning jewel of a career cut short. That said, you need only look at Harbinger's other victories at Chester, Newbury, and Goodwood to know that Harbinger was absolutely an course specialist at Ascot. Only in the Hardwicke Stakes and the King George did Harbinger explode away from his field's. Just like Famous Name is at his best at Leopardstown. The same can be said of Harbinger at Royal-Ascot, IMO.

  • wow! That was a great race!

  • ASSUMING CONTROL OF THIS HORSE.

  • wish he had got to the Arc :(

  • IMO he was as good as manduro!

  • His performance on the day was unbelievable....they can'y all have ran wel below form. Timeform has bottled it. After an initial rating of 143 (before Cape Blancos Irish Chanpion win and Workforce's Arc win) he wa reassessed at 140. By the way, Dancing Brave and Sea The Stars were more versatile but in the day........?????

  • to win a group 1 by 10 lengths in a course record is special. OR at 140 is fair enough. On this day, one of the best performances I've seen since Dancing Brave.

  • @grincher2006 Couldnt agree more.Unbelievable that people on here assume that every horse in the race ran below par.Erm i dont think so.

Lets just revel in this brilliant horse. And one of the TRUE great performances of Thoroughbred horse racing.

  • imagine that workforce ran his race this day, what would u rate harbinger??? 150!

  • imagine that workforce ran his race this day, what would u rate harbinger??? 150!

  • Harbinger destroyed this field. No competition at all.

  • The horse ran once in group 1 company and beat horses who missfired on the day.Decent horses not just great horses can break track records.Pace of race and firm ground being the given.

  • The merit of the run is there for all to see and in no way disregarded. However the rating achieved is the bone of contention. This win was not backed up(due to injury) a

  • a lot of comments on here disregarding this performance, all that can be said was workforce won a derby and an arc, we were robbed not seeing this lad take his chance in the arc... which you must imagine he would of won fairly comfortably and the arguements about his rating would not be an issue..

just enjoy the fact it was a great performance..course record too

  • Only if he could maintain some health and consistency. Then, he may have been able to put him in the class of some of the greats, but all he has in the books is one eye popping freaky run.

  • I've been following the horses for 30 years and that's the best performance I've seen. The official rating was too low. It would only make sense if you assume that Cape Blanco, Youmzain and Workforce ALL ran 10lb below their best.

  • For a horse to only be considered good enough by his trainer to run in his first race(this race)in group 1 company it make you wonder what muppets gave such a crazy high rating!!

  • The problem i have with this race is the official rating achieved by Harbinger at the years end being only 1ib shy of Sea The Stars.Workforce ran no race, and Cape Blanco's record shows him a poor traveller out of Ireland.

  • GBeret83 i agree with a lot of that but fast ground was not for me a reason for Workforce dissapointing in this race.He one must remember broke the track record at Epsom in the Derby.

  • Workforce just clearly didn't adapt to the fast surface at Ascot. While Harbinger thrived over the surface the Ascot. The two horses could've met at Ascot 100 times, and Harbinger would've beaten Workforce at Ascot every time, IMO. Harbinger thrived at Ascot much like Khalid Abdullah's colt, Famous Name, thrives at Leopardstown. But Workforce did redeem himself for this loss by winning the Arc De Triomphe. I still wish Stoute had raced him in the B.C.Turf at Churchill Downs.

  • Harbinger was a fantastic colt. Without question. But I've always thought he was a bit of a course specialist when it came to racing at Ascot. This is the only racetrack that Harbinger ever really dominated entire field's like he did in the 2010 Hardwicke Stakes and the 2010 King George. I'm not saying that Harbinger wasn't talented enough to have beaten this field anyway. But on a different track, maybe Newmarket, Newbury, or York, the margin of victory in this race would've been far less. IMO.

  • all i have to say is "SO YOU THINK" would give him a run for his money

  • Shame we didn't get to see him again. Absolutely amazing performance, true class.

  • Great to watch again. Clear to see that Workforce didn't run to it's best form not that I think it would have changed the outcome. Workforce is a good few pounds better than cape blanco though.

  • Comment removed

  • This performance just gets better. The form has worked out quite well too! Shut some ignorant doubters up as well.

  • Wow!!

  • We'll be waiting a long time to see demolition job like this again in the King George. Remarkable...

  • Comment removed

  • hats off!!!

  • A class horse that absolutely destroyed a class field. Nobody's as explosive at Ascot as Harbinger has proven to be. Such a shame his injury forced him into retirement before he got his shot at the Arc De Triomphe. Because I, for one, certainly believe that Harbinger would have been a huge force to reckon with at Longchamp. JMO.

  • I think Confront deserves quite a lot of credit for the job he did as pacemaker in this race. He set a really strong gallop. I'm quite certain, intended to give Workforce a good tow into the race. But he really went on strongly, and made Cape Blanco and Workforce really work to catch him, and go on by him. He just didn't fold up. But as it worked out, Confront ended up giving Harbinger a great tow instead of Workforce.

  • welcome to japan!!!

  • Workforce has his rep back where it belongs, at the very TOP.

Thanks for a very special day on Oct 3rd.

    Pure Class.

  • Workforce had an Off day and thats just racing, i hope they run him in the Arc and he puts some critics straight.

  • @SIDESLAM Yep I seen him in real life at Longchamp, TV pictures do not do him justice! Workforce is one of the most impresive looking horses I seen on the whole Longchamp Card he looks a real picture. To many people where so quick to right him off after the King George! How many horses in history have won the Derby then go on to win the Arc? What a fantastic horse he really is. The derby was a hard race despite what people say. He needed time to recover hence his KG defeat. He had an off day!

  • easy money

  • if you needed further evidence to support just how good this horse was, you got it last week when cape blanco dominated the irish champion field and i believe duncan won the prix foy on sunday, again franking harbingers form.

such a shame he wont race again, it really is.

this was one of the best mile n a half performances of the last 20 years.

  • the i thing i will stand by, at the time of the kg,

workforce form wasnt good enough to win. the derby had been let down several times and he was up against the only horse whod ever beaten him cape blanco, it was no surprise it didnt win. harbinger had the form in the book over cd, enhanced by barshiba, st frontiers & redwood. by arc time, rewilding had won the voltiguer, boosting epsom form a bit on a line through rewilding>planteur>behkabad, workforce was the best 3yo in the race on derby form

  • @HereWeGoAgain595 Agree with you Harbinger was a class of his own in the KG. Its just a shame Workforce and Cape Blanco both ran below there own levels by at least 11lb that day, it is a shame they didnt run there races and give Harbinger a real test. I dont think either of them would of beaten Harbinger even if they did especially at Ascot which was Harbingers territory, he owned Ascot every time he ran there.

  • Comment removed

  • He will stand at the Shadal Stud in Japan for 2011 season!

  • 社台グループが購入!

  • he was sold to japanese 'Shadai firm' where Sunday Silence spent rest of his life after shipment from America. Hopefully, he doesn't become the one like Lammtarra.

  • Very impressive but he hardly beat a vintage crop as for timeform rating him superior to Dancing Brave, Shergar, Sea the Star and Mill Reef. My arse he was!!!!

  • @bigttim1 what do you mean not a vintage crop? stuffed workforce the arc winner, cape blanco countless places in major races, youmzain same story. These weren't bad horses

  • @bigttim1 The other horses you mention showed their ability on numerous occasions and Harbinger was a one hit wonder. BUT, sometimes you have to believe the evidence of your own eyes and the clock. On this day Harbinger would have given all of them a race and maybe a beating, but maybe only on this day. Though personally I like to think The Brave would have taken care of him when they were both at their best.

  • I'm nearly 50 yrs. old now. I'm from America. But I've followed European racing just as closely as American racing since back in the early 80's. Around the time of the great Shergar. I also followed Euro racing through Dancing Brave's stretch. But this, without question, IMO, is by far the most impressive King George win I've seen in my lifetime. Especially the way he destroyed an Epsom Derby winner who had set a track record. An Irish Derby winner. Hong Kong Vase winner. And Arc 2nd place. 3X.

  • @GBeret83 Hey my Grandfather said exactly the same as you. And hes been watching racing for like over 63 years or more sinse he was a small boy.

The first thing he said after the race was we may not ever see another winner of the King George like that again. And my Grandad knows an awful lot about racing!

  • Such a terrible tragedy that befell Harbinger. Forcing him into retirement. So with Harbinger now retired. Would one say that Fame and Glory is now the top older turf colt in Europe now?

  • Know1 expected this

  • I cannot believe we are not going to see this horse again. It leaves a massive "what if" feeling.I was really looking forward to the International where he'd have taken on RVW and the two Abdullah horses over a trip short of his ideal, really intriguing race. And then there would have been the Arc.There's a question over Fame & Glory after failing last yr,so this could be the yr for a British mare, Sariska or Dar Re Mi.Good as Snow Fairy is, still hard to see a 3yo filly going over to take an Arc.

  • Poetry in motion watching Harbinger in this race.

Only hope he will race again after his injury

  • Harbinger suffered a severe injury on the gallops and is out for season. May not run again.

  • ...again even if that means putting him away for the season and coming back as a 4yo,something Stoute excels with. His physique alone is that of a horse who needs time, hence only running once as a 2yo.Abdullah is firstly a racing fan and a breeder second,so I think we will see him again.Regards.

  • ....Regards the Derby and the form,it is all about performance. For arguments sake At First Sight is a G2,G3 animal.Isn't it still an amazing effort to give such a horse a 10-12 length start with 3.5 furlongs to go and beat him by 8? At Ascot he only beat Confront(the pacemaker) by 2L.Dear God,Stoute wouldn't have even ran him if he thought that was his capabilities.Simple fact is that he knows a lot more than us and so does R.Moore in choosing him over Harbinger.I sincerely hope we see him....

  • What on earth was I on about.W Hern trained Troy, meant E.Dunlop and his mare Ouija Board. He was quite critical of the longchamp hierarchy after she was 3rd in '04.

  • ....potentially Harbinger there doesn't appear to be a STS around. He's now been put away till the race by Channon and 25/1 e/w is a cracking bet.All the same hope whatever you fancy runs to your expectations.

  • ....all at e/w prices1.Sariska,will hopefully get the ground she adores(14/1).2.Dar Re Mi,forget Sandown and she continued her improvement after her excellent Arc run last year and will appreciate any cut(25/1).3.Snow Fairy, have a little bit of a soft spot and again ground/trip no problem, but Dunlop never seemed that keen on the race after Troy got beat in '79(20/1)4.Can't have this monkey out of the first five-Youmzain.Horses for courses is the most reliable thing in racing and apart from.....

  • ...expect every entered horse to have at least one more run and the French to have their typical trials(Niel etc).At the current odds Harbinger is ridiculously short.Fame And Glory has looked good this season but he did the same last year with a summer break and running dissapointingly at Longchamp.Lope De Vega and Byword,I simply can't see getting the trip.St.Nicholas Abbey?God knows if he'll ever see a racecourse again.Cape Blanco-not good enough.Leaving to me 4 interesting animals.......

  • The Juddemonte Stakes at York on the 18th of this month will tell just how good Harbinger really is, I still feel Workforce has more to offer but RIP VAN WINKLE will beat Harbinger, Cape Blanco and Workforce, the very best horse that Ballydoyle has to offer is a cut above all of these

  • Stoute always held him in MASSIVE regard, without ever trying to preach too much about what he knew he had; that was always the feeling I got when I listened to him talk about Harbinger. He looks just like a typical Danehill progeny in every way, so expect him to go well with cut. All this talk of softened ground in the Arc being against him is codswallop IMO. If he doesnt win, the ground wont be the reason. DANEHILL forever!! :-)

Well...here's the Harbinger he was on about. :_)

  • If Harbinger overcomes the usual traffic problems in the Arc, and he re-produces anything approaching this performance, he will be very hard to beat.

  • Fantastic

  • really great horse...

  • a field of plodders lmfao to win the king george that easily is pure quality whatever else happens on this day and course its hard to see what could have beaten harbinger

  • Sensational performance. There is more to come from this horse. He can beat the clock and the opposition and you'll never see a fresher horse in a winners enclosure after any race let alone a 12f gr1 superb.

  • What a RACE! What would of happend if Workforce had of given his Derby running here? I think it would of been pretty close. Furlong per furlong on speed. Both champions! Not taking anything away from Harbingers absolutely fantastic run, but its a shame Workforce didnt give his true running. Maybe the Derby took a lot out of him, no excuses though.

Harbinger is a true and genuine Champion!

  • stunning! my heart was beating so hard when he skipped to the lead - what a horse!

  • Never seen a horse like this, wow.

  • @BrianShaw23 well did u saw sea the stars.....xDDD

  • Props to the Harbinger team for selecting Olivier Peslier to ride Harbinger in Ryan Moore's absence. I think Olivier Peslier was the perfect fit for this horse, and I think he proved so as such.

  • Horrible field,beat a bunch of plodders

  • I think Harbinger's owner, Harry Herbert, seems like a very genuine guy and a real class act representing his colt.

  • .....brilliant display and I hope he does do it again in the near future but isn't it reasonable to assume(Stoute and Moore are certain)that Workforce didn't run his race?Harbinger in my opinion has a little to do yet to be in STS vicinity and NO horse has,or will ever,be accurately judged on 1 impressive win.All the same he seems to be getting better with every 4yo race and why can't that continue.Be watching with real eagerness his subsequent races.

  • ....I hope he isn't an Ascot specialist as was Swain and Doyen. He HAS to reproduce something similar in the future to be put in the class of STS and Dancing Brave which the handicapper has. Those 2 exceptional champions did it month in month out but I honestly can't see him beating the old monkey Youmzain 12 lengths in the Arc,can anyone?Look at the superb winners of recent KG's-Conduit,Duke Of Marmalade,Montjeu,Daylami and Pentire, they all got beat in the Arc.I am in no way knocking this....

  • @guitarlegend32, that's my biggest fear about Harbinger as well. He won a Group 3 at Newbury beating Manifest, and and a Group 3 at Chester beating Age of Aquarius. But not winning nearly as impressively as he won both the Hardwicke Stakes and the King George at Ascot. I do thin Harbinger is a quality colt. No doubt. But it does appear that Ascot is where he shows his best form. It's usually known as a fast track. Longchamp in the fall can be a different proposition all together.

  • Harbinger has just received a rating through the BHA of 135 for this performance using Cape Blanco(119)as the benchmark. This performance is out of the complete top drawer BUT is he within 1lb of STS?On this performance I would say probably. As I said though 'on this performance'.Let's see the variables of the future.Different track(STS ran at 7 seven different courses).Distance(STS 1m,1m 2f,1m4f).Going(STS won on soft as a 2yo,good and good to firm)Left handed, right handed, uphill downhill....

  • @guitarlegend32 Yes he has indeed recieved a rating of 135, I personaly think he ran to a mark or 137 in all honesty, so wouldnt surprise me to see him win again pretty cosily of that new mark. Given similar conditions track wise. He ran like an absolute train on that track and ground. Not sure what to make of Cape Blanco's run, if you take Harbinger out of the race, what mark would you give Cape Blanco?

Harbinger was in a class of his own!

  • @MrNativeDancer Cape Blanco was the benchmark that the handicapper used alloting 119.The handicapper(and this is the bone of contention)considered the 11 length winning margin worth 16lbs.However Timeform thought it was worth 23lb's which to me is very unrealistic and slightly offensive to say on ONE performance he's superior to STS,Dancing Brave and Mill Reef.Time will tell but I seriously doubt he will win in such a manner again away from Ascot, when the other horses did it everywhere.

  • @guitarlegend32 You have a good point there. So what do you reckon Harbinger will do in the Ark, I personally think he is going to get beat by a better horse on the day. I think I know who will win but I dont want to make my self look like an idiot just yet, so will wait and see how the track is riding on the morning of the Ark before commenting on who I think will win.

  • @MrNativeDancer Greetings.I have a little gut feeling that Harbinger won't win the Arc also.Stoute has an appaling record in the race considering the amount of top middle distance horses he's trained. No winners when he's had Sharastani,Shadari,Kris Kin,Pilsudski(ran a good race),Opera House,Singspiel,Daliapour(I think),North Light,Conduit and one other I think in Pure Grain. There's probably more. Not a good record. At this moment in time it is extremely difficult to favour anything when I'd....

  • @MrNativeDancer P.S there is an interesting point regards King George winners failing in the Arc.Nijinsky,Troy,Nashwan,Generous,Daylami,Montjeu,Doyen,Duke Of Marmalade and Conduit are the ones I can think of off the top of my head and there's probably more.Only Dancing Brave,Dylan Thomas and Lammtarra have gone on to win in recent memory.Harbinger has it to do BUT I honestly hope he does.

  • @guitarlegend32 I sinserily hope Harbinger wins after the King George performance aswell, but I just dont see it. Something I find ironic, Workforce did not give his running in yet he finnished in a similar position behind Cape Blanco as he did in the Dante.Allowing for easing down give or take a legnth on Workforce etc. Whats the record on beaten horses in the Ark, just thinking of Youmzain, 2nd in the Ark 3 times, wonder if this is his year then.

  • @MrNativeDancer It is weird that the distance between the two are similar.Herewegoagain thinks WF did give his running which is up to him.People who don't though are M.Stoute,R.Moore and the BHB handicapper(his name eludes me).WF,at Ascot,LOOKED really laboured and uptight, unable to settle and generally all over the place. To me that's not the horse who won the Derby eventhough I don't think he'd have beaten Harbinger anyway. All the same I don't think Harbinger would have beaten WF at Epsom...

  • @guitarlegend32 I agree with you there. Shame that Harbinger has now been injured and retired, we wont ever know now how good that King George run was. Youmzain who finished third here is heading for a race in Turkey. So that is going to be quite informative to the King George form.

Hot Prospect who was well beaten in the Derby won a decent race on saturday. So Derby horses are coming back to form now, or maybe just starting to.

  • @MrNativeDancer Absolutely sick as a pig sir. We've been robbed of what could have been another STS,DB etc.

  • @guitarlegend32 Me to, I cant believe tis has happend! I wonder if he picked up a slight fracture in the King George race, with no symptoms, then aggrevated it on the gallops and made it much worse. I cant see how you can get a fracture just cantering? I bet connections are very very very upset by this. Maybe he will go to stud next year and have a successful career there.

  • @MrNativeDancer Agreed. He did have a high knee action and the ground must have been very quich to run a time like that.Still a very sad loss to racing but as ever going to stud, pass that ability on

  • @guitarlegend32 All we can do now is look forward to his off spring racing in about 3-4-5 years time. Bet every one will be queing to get their mares covered! I would. Have you seen his pedigree? no wonder he was so good!

  • Very very impressive he beat the Derby winner although the derby wasn't the strongest Workforce did break the course record he also beat the Irish derby winner (Cape Blanco) and Youmzain who has been 2nd in the arc 3 years running but i wont take evens on harbinger for the Arc

  • WOW!

  • awesome performance.....must be a sure thing for thr Arc providing the ground isn't too soft

  • GBeret83 is a moron. Workforce's performance in the English Derby was spectacular even if he faced no opposition. Breaking a stakes record alone is enough to make it a brilliant race. It is patently clear you didn't win a penny on this race. Likely the best you do is break even, and that's when you use the change machine.
