@Gin81593 It will decay but it will take 1-2 years so it's ok (considering the low price), I'm planning to make an oil pc myself. But can't decide either mineral oil which is clear like water (looks better) of transformer oil witch has the better physical characteristics but is as yellow as vegtable oil :/
@Raffix394 well durability of the oil and its ability to conduct heat is what i prefer and you can always change the color with lights, and since its translucent you can mix yellow with other lights to make another color :) if not mineral oil always works
@Gin81593 One month has passed since my last comment now I have a mineral oil pc (video i m youtube channel) I took the mineral oil insted of the transformer oil it was just cheaper, but works fine :)

@The1Experiment1 So you've grown up under the impression that vegetable oil "smells like shit". You need to confront your parents about what they were REALLY using to cook your meals. Maybe it was used cooking grease they stole from their jobs at McDonalds or something.
ok my bad i was indeed thinking of the old simple dc motor. but surely an ac motor would be better because then you don't need a commutator, it happens automatically? im thinking along the lines of the squirrel cage motor
@Janiekx do you know anything about motors? both AC and DC motors both require a physical contact at some point in time to complete a circuit through the rotor, hence generating the magnetic fields of which you speak. these magnetic fields the repel or attract the permanent magnets in the motor, which are fixed, causing the rotor to spin. so there is indeed wear and tear going on in every motor on the earth, 'brushless' or not.
more technically, the specific heat capacity (ill call it dQ) of oil is 1.8-2kJ/kg whereas water is around 4.2 and dry air about 1. the higher dQ, the better the fluid will cool your system. since oil is less than water, and water systems have flow, then id suggest like a few others to pump the oil around for better cooling.
why would you put the fans in the oil? oil is far more viscous than air, so the fan motors have to work harder to turn the fan blade. since the motors are not designed to do this, the 'insides' will experience far more "wear and tear" because there is a higher current being passed through the motor to try to overcome the viscous oil. what that all means is that the fan motors will degrade significantly faster than if they were in air.
Your fan theory sounds reasonable, but the guys over at Puget Systems have had no probs for like 2 years....and if they fail after two years, so what ? replace them.
its not a theory, it is science fact, however you are right, for someone to build an oil-surrounded computer, then replacing a fan isn't going to be all that hard.
omg have u ever put veg oil in a empty can and light it try to blow it out? yep it gets bigger u better hope that it doesnt catch fire or else ur pretty much fucked!
nice. However, big mistake! You should have used mineral oil. Instead you used what looks to be vegetable oil. Also, hook up a radiator system to pump the oil.
nice nice, and to reply to ppl, no you cant put the hdd in oil because the viscosity of oil will severly hamper the performance of the drive, the air hole will also be blocked burning the drive.
Just woundering about the hard drive, most people are getting results from ploping the hard drive right in, but im woundering ouldnt that slow the disc down inside it, making it run slower......??? thats the argument coming up about making computers oil systems. also its better to use mild mineral oil as it doesnt no smell and doesnt fuck ur computer up in the long run ^.^
the oil doesn't conduct electricity, therefor you won't get a short as you would with a substance that does contain ionic compounds within to conduct electricity.
this is great i ve done this 6 times for customers and they all says its amazing..... the only problem i have faced is the spark from the cord setting thwe oil on fire but if your not stupid then nothing happens and another thing is if you add Liquid nitrogen it stays at around -40C after 4 months cause the oil grabs the cold and keeps it in
i give ya props man, i love the ideal of mounting the mobo to the power supply to create a floating effect. im about to create a custom "tank" to put mine in only difference is i will have a open loop on it with actual water black on it so it constantly moves fresh oil across the main components. but liek i said i think its a bad ass ideal and if anythign it helps keep dust and noise down to a minimum.
the capacitors both bulge over time and the oil inside and outside the capacitor diffuse and eventually it leaks. ***ive had capacitors leak and explode and ruining motherboards before***
@eggg102: You're either pretty dumb or an idiot. Large servers are cooled with oil. It's only important that you know which oil you use. Silicone oil is the best so far. Right after that normal mineral oil.
