Such a sad thing to see yet we should understand why the young are rejected by their parent at birth. Often i believe we should leave it to nature when it happens because it is not good to see the consequences of latter.
This is why the mother had rejected Knut at birth. In the wild he would have died. Animals have a way of knowing if an offspring is not strong enough to survive.
@Freinrockas Yes and No. 101 turns why the parent animal rejects or kills the offspring. The parent animal can be the one who is not coping, feeling stressed or confused, and therefore, by rejecting an offspring they are conserving energy, with a drive to protect or help themselves. Numerous instances where animal instinct leads them blindly into difficulty; one need only consider the many whales beach themselves; dying a slow death is not a smart decision. Instinct can be WRONG.
@Freinrockas Your conclusion is the 'easy' conclusion. The animal supposedly lived a healthy life for 4 years, not just 4 months. Mothers would reject their young for numerous reasons, not solely for sensing a defect(s).

@king123421 Disagree with "this has to be". This bear was raised in captivity from birth, he doesn't know any other environment, and therefore, he didn't know what he was missing. Zoo life is never ideal, but it's 'next best'. I detect that humans, thanks to dual nature, are the aberration on earth, and we are the ones who are ill placed. Knut did not have an ideal life, but he had a reasonable life. He experienced love, comfort, a full belly, unlike some humans on this planet.
BTW, thanks for posting the video and the links to the articles. Remind the complainers that nobody is forcing them to watch this, and the topic is not obscure.

@stanibol re 'necropsy' / autopsy report. Some suggested that there are concerns re events prior to the bear's sad fate. Conclusive evidence that the bear had suffered brain damage might deter others from asking further questions re the recent turn of events.
@TheSilentAssasain recorder probably thought at the start it was doing something funny (as animals occasionally do) at first as Knut is spinning around and it looks like he's trying to scratch his belly, that is the most probable reason they carried on filming
PETA ! ! ! They did not like Knut ,or the Keeper Doerflein and are at odds with the Director of the Berlin Zoo. Do some digging, German PETA is the most militant group on earth.
Where does it say anything about ephedrine, or indeed any poison at all, in that article? What it does say is that the official 'Autopsy Report' had not yet been made at the time of writing.
As soon as I saw this clip (elsewhere, and before reading a thing about it) I thought it looked like a stroke.
This claim of yours sounds like nothing more than an attempt to start an unpleasant rumour off the back of a sad story, and if that's the case then shame on you.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!!!!! WHO THE FUCK PUT A VIDEO OF A DYING ANIMAL ON YOU TUBE. YOU ARE MESS UP IN THE HEAD!!!! GET SOME HELP....FAST.
@deborahleigh85 yet you obviously came to this page of your own free will adding to the view count, the clip will have been on the news anyway, it's not like he's tried to hide the fact that it's a death in the title, you like everyone else used their own free will to come to this video. Next time see a clip that you know is going to wind you up, don't bother clicking the link, it's that simple... and to finish....R.I.P. Knut
First Of All. The Title Says Dead Not Dying....I Thought It Was A Tribute To Knut. So I Thought i Would Have A Look. I Don't Watch The News. Cause I Have Better Things To With My LIfe. So Goodbye.
there was a baby rhino here in Aus that was rejected by its mother and died at a young age of a congenital defect ... its like the mothers have this sixth sense about these things
its just a shame the poor bear fell into the water - we'll never know if he could have been treated but it looked like a stroke
German polar bear Knut probably died of brain damage, a post-mortem examination suggests.
Berlin Zoo said in a statement a preliminary necropsy conducted on Monday revealed "significant changes to the brain, which could be seen as the reason for the sudden death".
I hate this type of stuff, call me fucked up, but i'd be less upset if i saw i person die, animals are innocent in a basic way and its horrible to see animals like this
@tcal222 Thats not fucked up, I would definetly feel that way too mate :( Its like they wouldnt know what the hells happening when there dieing (even though I doubt wed know if we were having a stroke but you know what I mean)
Humans are animals, and animals are not innocent in any way. Humans have more capacity to do good (& evil) than animals. If animals could get organised enough to have wars, they would.
The only reason other animals "appear" to live in cohabitation with their environment, is they do not have the mental capacity to master and overcome their environment. If chimps suddenly had the brainpower to organise their societies, they would surely attempt to expand as far as possible. Animals are not innocent, they will do anything it takes to survive (both as individuals and as a species).
@mcpencil I disagree. Humans have dual nature, part physical part spiritual. The human is the misfit (and mishap) on earth. Animals should receive greater respect, because they actually belong on earth.
@mcpencil Look at all the belief systems of remnant 'noble savages' [better: natural societies] in the world, ie Australian aborigines for one; their concept of their 'role' on earth was always as custodians only, and not 'ownership of the land' as it is pursued in modern times. Even 'noble savage' is too noble for my liking. Humans are more the parasites, predators, than any other living organism.
Ok..... you call humans predators. But most organisms are predators of some sort. I get your whole point about the custodian thing, but its not very compelling.
When I said evidence plz, i was referring to this statement: "Humans have dual nature, part physical part spiritual. The human is the misfit (and mishap) on earth"
You're implying that even though we evolved by natural processes, we don't belong here.
@stanibol That's the truth you are saying! And glad you mentioned the aboriginals as well. They know all about suffering yet - cause others thought to have the right to claim the ground/the land aborigines shared with others without taking it! If someone for example calls a leopard a predator than he or she is completely wrong.
Wild animals only kill for two reasons: to feed themselves or to defend themselves (if attacked) Noble is just a word (pointless to me)
@mcpencil My misunderstanding. I thought you meant to explain re human dual nature when in fact you would have been asking re evidence regarding the liability factor. Same as you and anyone, I have to be content with media news and online videos and discussions. See video: KNUT THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS POLAR BEAR DIES - ABC NEWS "when Knut's fur turned brown, less cute and cuddly, crowds dropped off", and the Zoo tried to sell Knut. It's evident that this "unfit" [biol.] bear was a liability.
No, I did mean about human nature. And, regarding knut, he had a brain abnormality (found in autopsy), which is the whole reason why his mother rejected him in the first place.
This is way more believable/plausible than the zoo killing him off for monetary reasons.
@mcpencil Firstly, the autopsy would reveal the animal experienced a seizure, but it was no longer possible to reveal what set off the seizure. Post humus brain analysis can only INFER neurologically defective brain, but it can't assert long term impaired brain development . Just ONE trigger can be enough to cause an aberration. Nobody can claim to KNOW with certainty why Knut's mother rejected Knut. The variables for that behaviour are numerous. But hey, no need to break your head over it.
@tcal222 just go ahead and read some of these comments...people laughing...THATS why you wouldn't care as much...cause the reputation of all humans is so bad you don't even feel as bad as animals who's purpose in life is to just survive.
His keeper and caretaker, Mr. Thomas Dörflein, also died suddenly due to a cardiac failure on 22 Sept 2008. May be raising Knut was his Karma. Maybe born-to-be-raised-by- Dörflein would have been Knut's Karma. Both became world-famous in a very short time span.

i never saw him in the flesh (living in Australia), but loved watching youtubes and videos of this wonderful creature. So sad to have found this news.
@mafiouso Fuck you u dumb cunt, Get some respect Polar bears are 10x smarter then humans and shit so shut the fuck up before you post some shit to get thumbs up think before you type shit 12 year old
@sunburntrip 10x smarter huh? i guess thats why they are the teachers in schools and dr. and make major science discoveries and not locked in cages. u fucken retard.
With all respect, if it's horrible to watch then just don't watch it.
Personally, I don't enjoy the video, but I still watch it in hopes to understand what was going on. Why everything has to be "sanitized" to the least common denominator, in particular if there's no crime being committed whatsoever?
@3slowhand I hope you know that this bear would not have lived four years if it was not for captivity. His mother rejected him and they rescued him. That happens a lot in Zoos. My own zoo in my hometown is one of the best in the world for taking care of the animals. They have brought animals back from sickness and disease. They have rescued tons of animals who would be dead. So your ignorant statement shows you do not care for animals.
@Trenaway on the contrary I do care for animals but I respect them as free spirits, I dont think anyone has the right to interfere with nature and take them away from their natural habitat and keep them in zoos, whether it is meant to benefit them or not . Nature can be cruel , but that is how life evolves and species adapt accordingly, I respect your opinion, but I am entitled to mine, I am not ignorant and I can assure you I do care for all living things , Peace.
why are videos showing his death only now coming out? it's possible that he wouldn't have died if he didn't fall in the water since he may have recovered from the seizure. I can't beleive that he had a seizure in that exact spot and managed to fall towards the pool. such bad luck and timing.
this looks mostly like a stroke - utter disorientation and confusion right from the start - looks VERY similar to what my dog went through --- he however fully recovered -- then a seizure... possibly drowned in the end, if he could've lived at all at that point ofcourse. Very sad... But linking this to any drug is a far stretch. Strokes and seizures can have numerous causes... Can't rule out the possibility but let's wait with pointing fingers till the autopsy results are published.
@lasernederland Maybe you should disable the commentary on the video and forward any threats made to you to Youtube, provided Youtube will take them seriously - they can disable their accounts or take other measures. Don't allow the rubes in this world get you down.
was that* ( correction of my comment ) lol :P

How is it died? and why does the recorder record it dying, did he know it was going die?
TheSilentAssasain 11 months ago
@TheSilentAssasain recorder probably thought at the start it was doing something funny (as animals occasionally do) at first as Knut is spinning around and it looks like he's trying to scratch his belly, that is the most probable reason they carried on filming
Cryten1974 11 months ago
PETA ! !

Knut

its just a shame the poor bear fell into the water - we'll never know if he could have been treated but it looked like a stroke
alSation81 11 months ago
German polar bear Knut probably died of brain damage, a post-mortem examination suggests.
Berlin Zoo said in a statement a preliminary necropsy conducted on Monday revealed "significant changes to the brain, which could be seen as the reason for the sudden death".

@tcal222 Thats not fucked up, I would definetly feel that way too mate :( Its like they wouldnt know what the hells happening when there dieing (even though I doubt wed know if we were having a stroke but you know what I mean)

I blame the media for this type of immunity O-o...
MadHatter3Z3 11 months ago
@tcal222
Humans are animals, and animals are not innocent in any way. Humans have more capacity to do good (& evil) than animals. If animals could get organised enough to have wars, they would.
mcpencil 11 months ago
@mcpencil bullshit
you're a fucking moron that would like to believe the big cats would like to take over the world if given the chance
you sir astound me with your stupidity
before humans animals still lived as they always had
yes we are an animal
but i hope you know that we are the only animal that doesnt live in co-habitation with its environment
xDarkcynx 11 months ago
@xDarkcynx
The only reason other animals "appear" to live in cohabitation with their environment, is they do not have the mental capacity to master and overcome their environment. If chimps suddenly had the brainpower to organise their societies, they would surely attempt to expand as far as possible. Animals are not innocent, they will do anything it takes to survive (both as individuals and as a species).
mcpencil 11 months ago
@xDarkcynx
Just went on your page, seems youre one of those HAARP conspiracy theorists, LOL. enough said.
mcpencil 11 months ago
@mcpencil I disagree. Humans have dual nature, part physical part spiritual. The human is the misfit (and mishap) on earth. Animals should receive greater respect, because they actually belong on earth.
stanibol 11 months ago
@stanibol
evidence, plz.
mcpencil 11 months ago
@mcpencil Look at all the belief systems of remnant 'noble savages' [better: natural societies] in the world, ie Australian aborigines for one; their concept of their 'role' on earth was always as custodians only, and not 'ownership of the land' as it is pursued in modern times. Even 'noble savage' is too noble for my liking. Humans are more the parasites, predators, than any other living organism.
stanibol 11 months ago

@stanibol
Ok..... you call humans predators. But most organisms are predators of some sort. I get your whole point about the custodian thing, but its not very compelling.
When I said evidence plz, i was referring to this statement: "Humans have dual nature, part physical part spiritual. The human is the misfit (and mishap) on earth"
You're implying that even though we evolved by natural processes, we don't belong here.
mcpencil 11 months ago
@stanibol That's the truth you are saying! And glad you mentioned the aboriginals as well. They know all about suffering yet - cause others thought to have the right to claim the ground/the land aborigines shared with others without taking it! If someone for example calls a leopard a predator than he or she is completely wrong.
Wild animals only kill for two reasons: to feed themselves or to defend themselves (if attacked) Noble is just a word (pointless to me)
TheKr8patser 10 months ago
@mcpencil My misunderstanding. I thought you meant to explain re human dual nature when in fact you would have been asking re evidence regarding the liability factor. Same as you and anyone, I have to be content with media news and online videos and discussions. See video: KNUT THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS POLAR BEAR DIES - ABC NEWS "when Knut's fur turned brown, less cute and cuddly, crowds dropped off", and the Zoo tried to sell Knut. It's evident that this "unfit" [biol.] bear was a liability.
stanibol 10 months ago
@stanibol
No, I did mean about human nature. And, regarding knut, he had a brain abnormality (found in autopsy), which is the whole reason why his mother rejected him in the first place.
This is way more believable/plausible than the zoo killing him off for monetary reasons.
mcpencil 10 months ago
@mcpencil Firstly, the autopsy would reveal the animal experienced a seizure, but it was no longer possible to reveal what set off the seizure. Post humus brain analysis can only INFER neurologically defective brain, but it can't assert long term impaired brain development . Just ONE trigger can be enough to cause an aberration. Nobody can claim to KNOW with certainty why Knut's mother rejected Knut. The variables for that behaviour are numerous. But hey, no need to break your head over it.

His keeper and caretaker, Mr. Thomas Dörflein, also died suddenly due to a cardiac failure on 22 Sept 2008. May be raising Knut was his Karma. Maybe born-to-be-raised-by- Dörflein would have been Knut's Karma. Both became world-famous in a very short time span.

its just wrong to keep any animal in captivity, WRONG !
3slowhand 11 months ago
@3slowhand I hope you know that this bear would not have lived four years if it was not for captivity. His mother rejected him and they rescued him. That happens a lot in Zoos. My own zoo in my hometown is one of the best in the world for taking care of the animals. They have brought animals back from sickness and disease. They have rescued tons of animals who would be dead. So your ignorant statement shows you do not care for animals.
Trenaway 11 months ago
@Trenaway on the contrary I do care for animals but I respect them as free spirits, I dont think anyone has the right to interfere with nature and take them away from their natural habitat and keep them in zoos, whether it is meant to benefit them or not . Nature can be cruel , but that is how life evolves and species adapt accordingly, I respect your opinion, but I am entitled to mine, I am not ignorant and I can assure you I do care for all living things , Peace.
3slowhand 11 months ago
My first impression was a seizure, perhaps a stroke. At Knut's young age probably from medications.

why are videos showing his death only now coming out? it's possible that he wouldn't have died if he didn't fall in the water since he may have recovered from the seizure.

Yes seems the best thing to do, hope its not Ephedrine, hope its not murder, autopsy results will tell.
