Populations (Africa, Asia,..) can produce their own food, there is no more hunger, new jobs are created, the migrations in other countries are lowering, the desertification is lowering, the CO2 in the atmosphere is lowering (plants transform it in the pfotosintesy process), the global warming is lowering (the evaporation of water is increased), .......
Using solar panels to produce elektricity we can start the electrolisys of sea water. The hydrogen and oxygen are then moved in fuel cells wich produce electricity and water as side product. We can now return the electricity into the electrolisys proces or use it elsevere, but the side product becomes our main product, as we can use it to water deserted areas near the seas (olmost all the deserts on Earth) creating new agricultural areas suitable for human habitats.
Hi. From what I remember, high-scale desalination, is very costly (notably in term of electricity). And it is already used, in the Middle East. The populations should really be able to migrate (and accept this migration). In the long-term, it would however be interesting, to make deserts regress, notably when the main cause, was human cities and activities (that is, not only the climate -otherwise, we probably would have to pump water indefinitely). i see, so you wish to create agriculture near the shorelines first, and then advance further. yeah that would real good to turn Desert into one big Oasis:)

That might have other affects on the environment. Earth without deserts...I'm not sure...But sounds great!
