  • Hi there, I'm a newcomer to your channel and I've also seen your site. I'm hoping to get a camera like that but I have many question, actually I´m no too sure. So excuse, me The Sony HXR-NX5 camcorder is better than the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV? I’ll hope for your answer soon, thanks for your time, thank you very much. Goos day.

  • @eleazar5420 The Canon EOS-1D Mark IV has a larger sensor, but you'll need to attach a rig, view finder, follow-focus to be able to shoot accurately with the Canon. That adds up in price. But many professionals are going that route. The Sony works right out of the box, but has a smaller sensor. I can't tell you which is better because I don't know. I suppose if I had tons of money, I'd build a rig around the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV.

  • Hello , thanks for the informative video. We just bought this camera and are still in the 'learning' part. Mu question is , is there a setting to do 'time lapse' filming? or do you just film at regular speed and edit to a faster speed afetrwords?? thanks , steve

  • @proguide66 Good question. I had that camera for review only. You'll need to check the menus or manual to see if it's listed there. You could use the other method you mentioned, speeding up the recording in post-production. Good luck and enjoy your camera.

  • ZZzzzzzzz

  • Most of my editing work is done on Premiere Cs4 soon to Cs5 is there anything you could advise me on. Thanx Remo

  • Most of the work i'll be doing is varied of semi pro level but requires high quality, Anything from weddings and ceremonial to Music video clips and short films, pubblicity and promotional, industrial etc. all. so I thought about aquiring the Sony NX5U and also the Sony Nex VG20 which gives me a good all round performance with the possibility of interchangeable lenses. Also haveing to cameras of the same make should be better matching my material when shot with 2 camera settups.......

  • Hi there, I'm a newcomer to your channel and I've also seen your site, I live in Italy & I'm hoping to open a small Garage style Video studio. Basically I'm currently researching which cameras to acquire. I've taken a good look at your videos on the HXR-NX5 the Canon XD 300 which I believe is the AVCHD version of the XH A1 and the Panasonic etc. Well after going through a day on the net trying to decide, I've come to a first conclusion that I'll probably require more than one camera.

  • How much price ?

  • @CompDubai Just under $4,000.00

  • escuse me the camera sony HXR-NX5 have tripod whit remote control?? and i know wont is compatibility the tripod VCT-PG11RMB with the camara sony HXR-NX5?? for your time, tank you very much.. goos day, i wite you comment.

    my E-mail: neck_027@hotmail.com

  • Does the A/V output Standard Definition Video? I need to connect it to a Edirol V8 Video Mixer, for live output, but also need the HD for Editing.

  • this or a DSLR??

    help me I'm lost.

  • @VideoDocR That depends. A DSLR might produce better looking video, especial if you're use the Canon 5D Mark II and a Red Rock stabilizing system with follow-focus. Those add-ons add cost. I don't believe the Canon 5D can record more than 12-minute clips. Watch YouTube videos showing the Red Rock stabilizing system if you're unfamiliar with it.

  • @dteubner @VideoDocR Also keep in mind the crippling shutter roll that comes with DSLR's - more than a tiny amount of camera movement and your image begins to skew etc. DSLR's get really nice footage, especially DOF, but arn't really practical for any handheld work unfortunately.

  • @VideoDocR Panasonic AGAF-101. AVCCAM, interchangeable lenses, very stable and no jelly shutter problems because it's not a CMOS

  • why would you need somethin like this?? the HDR-XR500V Camcorder has the same lense and zoom so basicly this is biger for no reason and you would look like a fucktard walking around videotaping with that!

  • @wescoolya you REALLY don't understand pro filmmaking do you?

I can list about 5 things every professional would need in a camera that this has that the xr500 doesn't.

    3 ring manual control

xlr input for little to no audio interference when working with a long mic cable

    manual Audio control

    3 chip sensor

    HD-SDI output

granted the last one isn't used by every professional but the other 4 are used by professionals every day.

oh yeah, you wouldn't look like a "fucktard" you'd look professional.

  • @hobocamptheater actually no have you seen vids using the xr500? it looks better quality then this vid alone and that camera would prob break one drom the xr500 wouldent

  • @wescoolya I actually have a friend with this camera and the abuse it's taken over the time he's had it (a couple years if I remember) is pretty bad, but it still works fine.

that out of the way you still don't notice all the "pro" features missing on the xr500v I've already listed 5 and there's still more.

Also, when you say that the xr500's video looks better you fail to take into account that the videos of the nx5u that you've seen might just suck (because of who made them, not the camera)

  • How did you get your camera? I would like to get me one of those someday.

  • Could you please put out in Iris test? like does this give great depth of field when at "vlog" type of zoomed out shots?

  • @PestVic Sorry I no longer have that camera. It was on loan for me to review.

  • @dteubner aww man. is there anyway you can message me some details on how to get this loaned? id love to try it out and review it.

  • @PestVic I got the loan from B&H Photo. Because I'm a reseller through my HowNowVideo(dot)com site I was able to get it. They've stopped doing the loan thing lately. You might want to read reviews of the camera at B&H. You can find it through links on my HowNowVideo site.

  • although the information is useful, this guy's monotonous narration puts me to sleep. I've had to watch it more than once in order to take full advantage of the information. FEED THIS GUY SOME COFFEE!

  • I have the option to work on Sony Vegas 10 or FInal Cut Pro, in terms or editing. Which one would you recommend for bringing the files from the camera to the computer for editing? And on a scale of 1 to 10, how much to do recommend/like this camera? It looks incredible, I just want a hands-on opinion.

    -Thank you

  • 0:20 the image was showing the ax2000

  • Does the camera have an HDV/DV output?

  • @JustChilllax you mean firewire? Then no.

  • how's the rolling shutter? I'm comparing this to a few other cameras and I want to know about exmor R cmos rolling shutter.

  • Does the codec display any compression artifacts? Is there mosquito noise?

  • Sorry am new in the video stuff i got the video in my sd card now am trying to transfer those file to my macbook... but i dont see any video files when i open the memory card help please

  • @snadovalvida I got it !! jejeje i have to use a usb cable huh! thanx anyways

  • @snadovalvida I'm not a Mac user, but using Final Cut, I believe you must import them. Macs transfer AVCHD to ProRes. You could ask your question on an Apple User Forum, if you can find one. If you're using Premiere Pro, the files are there living a few folders in on the card. Dig deep enough and you'll find them.

  • @dteubner Thanx

  • you will find som .mts files if you recorded in hd, if you recorded in sd you fin some mpeg, final cut its no good using this files you have to convert them and its a slow proces and the resulting files are huge compared with the original ones, its better you use premiere pro cs5,

  • Responder a este vídeo... you can also use the adobe media encoder to proces the raw files using quicktime as an extension and sony nxcam compressor using the same settings that te original file, so this will transform the nxcam .mts to .mov files that you can edit in final cut, but why exporting them if you can edith them in premiere, just one more thing be patient when you import the files to premiere, they pre render so you can work them without rendering again,

  • @Riloproducciones It Was Thank you so much

  • :) i hope this was helpful, my english is not very good but im really used to work with this camera and apple, and premiere

  • @Riloproducciones thanx!!!!

  • im just wondering is it better to have the lcd screen on the top where the shotgun mic is on the left or right on the bottom because im thinking of getting a panasonic camcorder i dont know what kind or a sony hvr-z5u

  • @figter0223 I don't think it really matters much. You'll get used to whatever position the LCD happens to be in.

  • Great overview of the camera! Thank you. This video was exactly what I was searching for.

  • Any idea how much does it cost?

  • @LMRA177 $4000, or at least around that price range.

  • You forgot to mention the earphone plug.

  • How does this camera compare to the JVC GY-HM100U ? I just picked one up and the video looks great until you try to print ot DVD. When you do this it looks grainy and pixelated. Have you experienced this?

  • @superflyingman I have no experience with the JVC GY-HM100U. Sorry.

  • @superflyingman I've worked with both.. I prefer the Sony over the JVC.

  • Good review.... I looked at many reviews about this camera & yours was more simply explained & easy to understand than most, anyway I went out & bought it. It is a great little camera I have no regrets in buying it..... but it will be a lot better when I pay it off.... ha ha! worth it.

  • @Schmitylamprano Congratulations on your camera. Watch my other videos at HowNowVideo(dot)com. I discuss AVCHD and editing and other principles of video and audio.

  • @dteubner Thanks buddy, yes I will check out your other stuff on your website. I'm going to do a vid. showing the clarity of avchd with this cam. please have a look out for that on my channel soon, cheers keep up the good work.

  • No mony....this camera is very expensiv...you have a lot of mony man...i cant by your dvd....

  • I think that this camera compares better to the hpx170 or the hvx200a. The hmc150 would also compare better to the ax2000

  • Great review

  • i want to put a mic in input1 but how to i set it to that and turn off the built in mic?

  • Good stuff!!

  • Can you use this when its raining?`Or rough weather?

  • @Evli10 I wouldn't use the camera in a downpour. You could search for a camera protector for the camera. Or create your own. I haven't used it in rough weather myself.

  • how do you afford this

  • @xXBLOODWRITTEN I had that camera as a loan just to review. I don't own it. I do own the panasonic HMC 150.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I've been shopping for a Sony prosumer camera for use in making hunting and fishing DVD's in HD. This particular camera is the one I seemed drawn to, and your review really helped me with my decision. Thank you!

  • Hello dteubner, witch do u suggest a cmos or ccd sensor? ( im concerned with the so called rolling shutter affect on the cmos sensor or is rolloig shutter affect gone with these newer cameras?

  • @kruff10 Most video cameras seem to be headed to CMOS. I shoot the Panasonic HMC150 which uses CCDs. The Sony was on loan just for my review. I can't say much about the rolling shutter issue in the Sony or any other CMOS camera because I've only owned CCD cameras so far. Perhaps there's someone else who can discuss it more in depth. Sorry.

  • @dteubner shut up you technical stupid

  • Hello dteubner, i like this sony and the hmc 150 but i was concerned about the cmos and not ccd thats in the hmc 150. (rolling shutter cmos)

  • I got this camera... I fell in love with it!

  • @JHPStudios Yes, it's a great camera, great lens, great feel to it. Enjoy.

If you haven't gotten my 5-hour DVD tutorial set yet, check it out at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Great if you're learning Adobe editing.

    Later...

  • @dteubner Oh man! I'll check it out! I just switched from Final Cut to Adobe so great to hear that you got that DVD!

  • @JHPStudios hows the sex?

  • Hi dteubner Just wanted to ask a question i am looking for a Camera and i am confuse need your opinion on the matter i like the sony hxr nx5 but love the ex 1r also cant make my mind up please help.

  • @richkid639 The EX1R has 1/2 chips. I've tried this camera. Nothing can touch it. If you have the bucks, go for the EX1R. Picture quality is amazing. Visit my HowNowVideo(dot)com. I have a link to my preferred vendor. It's on the bottom of my website. You'll get a great price, I'll get a few bucks thrown my way.

  • @dteubner thanks for the response i was looking at the nx5v due to its long recording time but the ex1r is some thing else nice images but sxs cards are way to much thanks again

  • this one or the Panasonic AG-HMC150 AVCHD which is better

  • @caomingtranhn Read the customer comments from purchasers of both these cameras. Go to HowNowVideo(dot)com and click on the HMC150 icon at the bottom. Then read reviews. Then search for name of the Sony and read comments. Both cameras are good. I've liked the HMC150.

  • nice camcorder...im dreaming of it.

  • I have one so I can't capture or transfer my video to final cut pro (MAC) so I need your help plz ?????

  • @anicette7 You'll need to transcode to ProRes on import. Search YouTube using "final cut import" for more help on this. I don't use the Mac, sorry.

  • David, there is one more difference between the NX5U and HDR-AX2000 that might be significant for some, and that is the NX5U shoots 720/60P, and the AX2000 doesn't. I don't know why Sony made this different.

I like this more than the Panasonic HMC-150. It feels and looks more solid to me side by side, and I like the button and controls layout better.

    Thanks for what you do!!

  • @orcachaser Good to know. Yes, the Sony has a much better build than the Panasonic.

  • WHY ONLY BLA BLA BLA? YOU SHOULD SHOW THE FEATURES WITH IMAGES

  • Must i buy the 128GB Flash Drive or is that in the review one?

  • @JanikMacholl No you don't have to. I didn't have the Flash drive in my review, but only the cover that comes with the camera. But if you do buy the Flash drive, you can record on both that and the SD card at the same time. The Sony HDR-AX2000 is just like the HXR-NX5U, but without the Flash option. Less money too.

  • Great review, thank you very much this was helpfull! Keep up the good work :)

  • @donsrleone I'll try. Thanks.

  • This is record in standard definition?

  • One question, can I record video directly to the SD card? My friend also told me that the video is too compress, what does that mean. Can I just get the video file and add it directly to my editing S/W?

  • @JUANCARLOS2164 The HXR-NX5U only records to SD cards (the high-capacity class 4 or faster versions). It's recorded in AVCHD. The quality is very good. You can record in SD ONLY if you buy the Flash drive attachment. I use AVCHD all the time. A quad-core machine can handle it well.

  • @dteubner

Is there a way to change the recording destination in the settings?

  • @JUANCARLOS2164 I sent that camera back. It was on loan for me to review. Perhaps you can check the manual or find an online PDF for that camera. Good luck.

  • I am interested in buying the Sony HDR-AX2000. Is that camcorder similar to this one? What advantages does this camcorder have over the AX2000. I have heard that the AX2000 does not shoot in native progressive. Is this camcorder the same way? Great video!

  • @ChaKaiProductions I believe the difference is the HDR-AX2000 doesn't have the Flash Card Adapter option. Not totally sure. Go to HowNowVideo and then the Get Gear link. Click and search at my preferred vendor. You can read more about details. Good luck.

  • Do you have a Sony hvr v1u? I have been interested in this camera as well. A review of that camera would be great. Or a comparison.

  • @SmellsLikeUpDawgg I've done two reviews at my HowNowVideo (dot) com website. I think you've seen one of them. That camera was on loan for a week. It has a nice build and great lens. Has the weight of the Canon XH-A1.

  • Sony HXR-NX5U

  • I was wondering if this is a scam because of the price:

    Thanks.

  • Really good and helpful, but can you do a comparison between the canon xha1 or a1s and the Sony hxr nx5u?

  • @SmellsLikeUpDawgg Thanks. I don't have the XH-A1 anymore so I can't do a comparison. I did like the XH-A1. Very nice lens and good audio through the XLR. Canon is about to release some new tapeless cameras. Perhaps I'll review one when they come out.

  • Does the NX5U have a LANC input? I have a Manfrotto tripod handle that has a standard mini-jack that I currently plug into the Sony Z1U and can control the zoom and start and stop recording. Just wondering if this handle will work with the NX5U. Thanks.

  • I just have one question..

How the hell do you afford all of this.

  • @FroeFilms The Sony was a loaner. I own the HMC150. Thanks for watching.

  • @dteubner No problem, you have great videos, very informative.

  • awseome review explained very well and strait to the point cheers cant wait to purchase mine

  • Thank you for the review. Excellent Job.

  • Dude I love your review. If you can can you do some comparisons with the hmc150 and this one

  • Dude I love your review. If you can can you do some comparisons with the hmc150 and this one

  • Thanks for teh review. Two questions. What wireless mic do you use for these videos? Can you use an card for this camera as long as its an SDHC card? The reason I ask is because I've found 32gb SDHC cards for $200 and I've found 32gb SDHC cards for $80. Does the card matter?

  • the class (speed rating) of the card is the difference in price. If I remember right, the NX5U requires a minimum of a class 4 (although I've heard class 6 or better is recommended).

  • Great demo. Thanks for posting. Sony should be paying you to do this kind of presentaion. Not much on the internet . Really helps those in the market to make a decision.

  • another great review, thanks for taking the time to make them

  • You are welcome.

  • i love this kind of videos ;) best wishes from germany ^^

  • Thanks...

  • Thanks for all these videos, really. They're helping me with my decision between the xh a1s, ag hmc 150 and this one. If you were to make a decision right now , which would you recommend?

  • I would go tapeless, so that rules out the XH-A1. I believe Canon is going to release an upgrade to the XH-A1 that is tapeless. Not sure when. But that, said, I like the HMC150 because of its wide angle lens, and light weight. You'll need a bigger battery, however.

  • Excellent, that's actually the one I was leaning towards. Would you say the quality of al of them is pretty even?

  • Yes. But the Panasonic has that special "look" that Panasonic users love. They call it the Panasonic "mojo".

  • The only thing keeping me from buying the Panasonic right now is the fact that this one comes with the mic and a bigger battery. I don't know what to do! I don't know anything about mics so I'd have no idea which to buy if I bought the panasonic.

  • The Rode video mic is a brilliant shotgun mic it is less than $200 Australian, I have been using one for the last 3 years with my Sony Z1, I also use a Sony wireless lapel mic cost is around $800 Au and is worth every cent. I hope this helps you
