Infra-red radiation is otherwise known as heat. All the sensor does is receive, not transmit. The camera will do you no harm!

these may seem like weird question to hardened photographers reading this but can anyone answer these questions on the 450D:

1) is it possible to power the camera via usb?

2) can the battery be charged by plugging the camera into USB.

3) and can the camera act as a "webcam" by pluging it into a PC?

You should get Rebel XSi because it is smaller but just as good as a profesional camera. Now the D40 is more of Nikon's lower end SLR's so hope that helps!

usually all canon-lenses work for all canon-cameras

EF and EF-S lenses should work on all of Canon's APS-C sized (cropped) bodies. However, EF-S lenses will not work on full frame bodies including film (such as 5D, 5DMKII and 1Ds) or APS-H camera bodies such as the 1D.

To answer your question EOS-1 lenses should work with the 450D.

The biggest problem ive had with cameras in the past is after 10 shots the batteries are dead (AA Bats) I know Li-ion batteries last longer but how long could you expect the batteries for this camera to last you?

This has got to be one of the worst cameras I ever used. don't be fooled by the ads. This camera can't meter bright outdoor scens right. highlites are always blow out washed out to bright call what you may. I always have to shoot -1/3 to -2/3 to get anything thats any good.

Stay away from anything Sony when it comes to SLR. You want to stay with the company's that have been making SLR's And DSLRs for years. and Canon EOS 450D (Rebel XSi) and is great for a beginner DSLR and will take some time to figure out how to use it properly.

the price difference was only 60 euro, so it wasnt much if a difference. The 450D has bigger Display and bigger view finder, eye sensor,12MP,rubber grip. But the 1000D is also very good, i know disvoverd that the 450D has AF problems, i tested with 1000D and the 450D could focus on objects far away, the 1000D could do it.

In most cases I would agree. But live view can be useful for shooting from a tripod. Plus when your looking through live view you can zoom into something on the screen to manually focus very precisely.
