pits are not well defined, APBT is not AKC recognized, but others recognize it as a breed... the stats do throw in presa canario (what i call a long legged pit bull which does have a fighting history as well...), am staf, etc...

i like the blues, they are the largest made so far, also big red's red nose... Ottawa, no pit bulls allowed since 2005. Did you know that the number of dog attacks reported in this city has gone UP since then? And even before they were banned, most reported attacks were from german shepherds, NOT pit bulls. Most of the bans were only put into effect to appease public paranoia.

But temperment is all about biting and attacking...If a dog has a good temperment it is least likely to bite. if it has a bad temperment it is more likely to bite.
i've explained the history on how pits can maintain a nice temperament, not bite so much AND be the biggest killers, i've explained this... many dogs are bity and nippy with no intention of killing - many humans get into fights with no intention of killing, most ALL death threats are never carried out... most all times a gun is brandished and pulled out it is never used, NRA estimates this happens 2 million times or so a year in USA... I also believe this stat includes APBT, different than pits in general, as many off shoots, not so APBT, have fighting history in them, worse than APBT... so you can pick and choose as to what a pit bull is or use the more hones PIT-TYPE label, as some of the stats have done... pit refers to fighting pit and hardly a nice name for a dog!

Terriers as a group are combative with other animals by nature. Yet with people are completely trusting and docile, this pretty much somes up the american pitbull terrier. You should take a look at how MANY rottweilers and pit bulls are owned in the country where these statistics were gathered. Quite often the attack rates are higher for certain breeds simple because there are more of these breeds out there. Also, you are not taking into consideration HOW these dogs were treated before they attacked.

Sergeant Stubby was known as the most decorated war dog, to of ever served in the military. He served in the 102th infantry, 26th Yankee Division in the trenches of France for 18 months. He was involved in 17 battles, and 4 offensives. He entered combat on February 5, 1918, and being under constant fire, eventually was wounded in his foreleg, by a German hand grenade.

one of the reasons this is possible, a seeming contrast, is that pits had to be handled during fights and right after, those who bit their master upon being pulled out of a fight would NOT be bred, or even killed (OFTEN, or simply fought to death with not breeding... so its an interesting contrast of human friendly temperament AND the gladiator of all dogs being built into them... they can have better T-scores and lower bite rates and STILL be the biggest killers, and that IS the case...
somebody at work said labs bite the most, but this is raw numbers and check out the AKC number one dog for almost decades running, the lab...
APBTs really seem to be the best line of pit, yet even as pure breeds with supposedly good temperaments they are big dog killers at least... this is known, and i'm not sure if figured into temperament it would lower their score ALOT, so as i said its a measure of human-dog interaction... at least as some tests go that i've read...
this helps corroborate my s. poodle and golden stat of them being the least two dogs to bite, but also a matter of showing pits having good relations with man UNTIL they get going and then they are the deadliest, which happens enough for pits to be bigger biters/killers than goldens and s. poodles, both of which show up NO WHERE on the kill lists... so pits are VERY unique and contrasted statistically, yet i'd watch out for the BS due to BSL antis, as some of this might be lies, propaganda...
@Viperclan2 standard poodles (the big ones) have one of the lowest bite rates - them and golden retrievers, but in recent years some bad overbred goldens have been coming out and i guess some other breed has replaced it for the top two least likely to bite spots... u can look up bite rates and death by dog, i've seen the numbers several times... pits are by far the most deadly, then rotties...
I love pitbulls, i have owned many breeds and was actualy(suprisingly enough) sceptical about them at one time. now i have owned many and plan on owning more, im lucky not to be PERSONLY affected by BSL's in my area
This is the utmost best breed of dog I have ever owned and I am gratefull to have one. BSL doesnt mean shit come get my dog out of my cold dead fingers. The dog is what you make of it. Stupid people abuse these dogs for making money and excitement, but if not these then it will be another. Humanity is the real demon not dogs that do what their owners ask them to do. Clap! Clap! Clap! I own the sweetest pit! I also work at The Humane Society....all of our pits are cuddlers! We are very selective about who can adopt a pitbull. We want to make sure they will not be used for fighting and by law they must be spayed or neutered. Out pits play like that all the time. Get educated on this wonderful breed.

pits are not well defined, APBT is not AKC recognized, but others recognize it as a breed... the stats do throw in presa canario (what i call a long legged pit bull which does have a fighting history as well...), am staf, etc...

i like the blues, they are the largest made so far, also big red's red nose... I would want short haired dogs because i live in florida, i think its terrible for people to have norwegian elkhounds or some other subzero dog with thick thick coats in hot humid florida... thats another reason i like pits, because i'd care about my dogs in florida heat... while others pick dogs not matter where they live based on some esthetic "I LIKE THEM" idea... try to get dogs adapted to the particular area...

I also believe this stat includes APBT, different than pits in general, as many off shoots, not so APBT, have fighting history in them, worse than APBT... so you can pick and choose as to what a pit bull is or use the more hones PIT-TYPE label, as some of the stats have done... pit refers to fighting pit and hardly a nice name for a dog!

You should take a look at how MANY rottweilers and pit bulls are owned in the country where these statistics were gathered. Quite often the attack rates are higher for certain breeds simple because there are more of these breeds out there. Also, you are not taking into consideration HOW these dogs were treated before they attacked.

Sergeant Stubby was known as the most decorated war dog, to of ever served in the military. He served in the 102th infantry, 26th Yankee Division in the trenches of France for 18 months. He was involved in 17 battles, and 4 offensives. He entered combat on February 5, 1918, and being under constant fire, eventually was wounded in his foreleg, by a German hand grenade.

one of the reasons this is possible, a seeming contrast, is that pits had to be handled during fights and right after, those who bit their master upon being pulled out of a fight would NOT be bred, or even killed (OFTEN, or simply fought to death with not breeding... so its an interesting contrast of human friendly temperament AND the gladiator of all dogs being built into them... they can have better T-scores and lower bite rates and STILL be the biggest killers, and that IS the case...

I love pitbulls, i have owned many breeds and was actualy(suprisingly enough) sceptical about them at one time. now i have owned many and plan on owning more, im lucky not to be PERSONLY affected by BSL's in my area

This is the utmost best breed of dog I have ever owned and I am gratefull to have one. BSL doesnt mean shit come get my dog out of my cold dead fingers. The dog is what you make of it. Stupid people abuse these dogs for making money and excitement, but if not these then it will be another. Humanity is the real demon not dogs that do what their owners ask them to do. Such a shame so much controversy surrounds a dog. My love and respect will always go out to these dogs.

Cute wtf? These dogs are natural born killers. Only the best trainers can make them suitable for family life. You hear all the time about how the pit was so gentle...until it snapped and killed their toddler. All it takes is once.

learn more about the breed. my husband took in a pitt 10 years ago he had been severely abused. my son was only 8 months old. the only time budd dogg hurt my boy was when buddy died and broke my now 10year old sons heart.

youre an idiot. pit bulls raised to be gentle are exactly that. they dont "snap". pits that are mistreated attack as any other dog. they are not aggressive by nature. those dogs are poodles and greman sheperds. they attack more people than most breeds including pit bulls. so shut your lips and learn!!!!

Those are a couple of beautiful puppies you have there. We just got a blue puppy ourselves and love her to death. Their coat is so derned silky and soft you could only wish for a pillow so soft :)

Clap! Clap! Clap! I own the sweetest pit! I also work at The Humane Society....all of our pits are cuddlers! We are very selective about who can adopt a pitbull. We want to make sure they will not be used for fighting and by law they must be spayed or neutered. Out pits play like that all the time. Get educated on this wonderful breed.

I Breed Blue Brendel Pits and i have 2 grown males that are 3 years old and they sleep with my baby brother and i could record them for a year and they wouldnt fight once or even growl..Pitbulls are nice as can be

My 2 are getting old now, but 9m every night, they still do it-loopy as hell! You can set your watch by it.
Never hurt anyhing in their lives-one tries to catch squirrels, but too stupid. They adore my annoying 6 year old son who winds them up-they just go in he other room!
It's not the dog, it's the owner-fact.

I've been raising and breeding dogs since i was 4 years old. Everything from jack russle terriers to american staforshire pitbulls. the pits are easily the easiest and most honorable dogs out there. the dalmations i raised scared even me. my pit named kujo would die for me. it wouldnt happen though. i think i might die for him before that would happen.
