you can have a benefits and insurance, but since it's not recognized as marriage it's all taxed as income, for example when your employer offers benefits to cover your non traditional family. You're taxed on that. Further when you die your estate isn't passed on to your partner in the same way as if married.

And in every state this has ever been brought up for a vote of the people, it has failed. Maryland and mass already have referendums that cannot be stopped that will force this on the ballot and when it does, both of them will ban gay marriages. Your argument is faulty @ignbtd. We already regulate lifestyles by law. More then one spouse at a time, marrying your siblings, marrying anyone below a specific age and so on. Therefor since we already regulate lifestyles that are not normal, we can regulate this one. And please, no matter what you think, unless you can prove this is genetic; and this is something even the top people in the field have not been able to do in over 100 years, then its a lifestyle choice and as such subject to laws.

I assure you that it is not a lifestyle choice. I don't see why it is so difficult to understand given so many personal accounts. They'd have to know what being gay means first, asshat. That usually doesn't happen until age 8, well past the time the average person learns to walk and speak. And yes there are children who are gay too. I actually knew a guy back in 3rd or 4th grade who certainly acted gay. No one ever teased him though which is suprising since I live in Texas. @coffin what the AMA is saying is that its not only genetic but genetics play a role, like the cancer genes if you have one it dose not mean you will get cancer its just much more likely. Same think with the gay genes if you have them it dose not mean you will be gay its just a lot more likely. The AMA also thinks that hormones during fetal brain development play a role as well. I agree that more research needs to be done before this is "proven" but all evidence points to it not being a choice.

The test with platurnal twins showed the same 10% chance as the rest of the population so it dose seem that there is a genetic factor that increases your likely hood of being gay, just like i described. @coffinsurfer1 It could take a long time to find genetic proof I know that but you must realize that of course no one will find one sole gay gene. Something as complex as sexuality couldn't possibly lie under the control of one gene, it could be in fact hundreds. Many of our traits are multifactorial; relying on the interaction between genes. I myself don't believe we will find one gene but I do believe their is a biological basis to it.

As a psychology major, i just wanted to clear up some of the earlier comments. There is medical evidence that shows that being gay is not a choice. In most cases it has shown to be a mix of nature and nurture, but it is definitely not a choice to "become gay."

@coffin what the AMA is saying is that its not only genetic but genetics play a role, like the cancer genes if you have one it dose not mean you will get cancer its just much more likely. Same think with the gay genes if you have them it dose not mean you will be gay its just a lot more likely. The AMA also thinks that hormones during fetal brain development play a role as well. I agree that more research needs to be done before this is "proven" but all evidence points to it not being a choice.

@Fireflygamer Sorry, the AMA has NEVER said that this is genetic. My sister is a pic nurse (look it up) for over 25 years and three of my nieces are RN's and LPN's. Not to mention that I have read every AMA magazine (JAMA) for the last 25 years and not once have they or the New England Journal of Medicine, has ever stated that homosexuality is genetic or that genetics play a role. The test with platurnal twins showed the same 10% chance as the rest of the population so it dose seem that there is a genetic factor that increases your likely hood of being gay, just like i described. It showed that male to female transsexual brains were the same as female brains. this is all believed to be caused by to much estrogen in the womb when the babies brain is being developed. about it as you are trying to convince a person that has had family members in the medical field for over 25 years, and not one of them nor any nurse or doctor or geneticist has ever backed up this mythical claim nor showed any documented proof of it. Just like the myth that homosexuals were 10% of the population when in fact according to the census and the WHO and AMA, they are less then 1%. Something as complex as sexuality couldn't possibly lie under the control of one gene, it could be in fact hundreds. Many of our traits are multifactorial; relying on the interaction between genes. I myself don't believe we will find one gene but I do believe their is a biological basis to it.

A same sex marriage bill would of passed in the house but would of stalled in the senate because not all senate democrats support gay marriage. Even if all the democrats in the senate voted on such a bill they wouldn't of had enough votes to block a fillibuster. In regards to the Dadt repeal, it was voted on and would of passed but the republicans fillibustered it.

As a psychology major, i just wanted to clear up some of the earlier comments. There is medical evidence that shows that being gay is not a choice. In most cases it has shown to be a mix of nature and nurture, but it is definitely not a choice to "become gay."

But how does she ignore that with every poll, over 80% of Americans do not want Gay marriage forced on them nor will accept it. Hell even the US Military just yesterday has stated they are not going to pay any attention to the federal judge's ruling that says they need to change. And excuse me twit...since when does a federal judge have the authority to tell the whole US that in his opinion something is not legal. According to Article 3 of the US Constitution, a federal judge has a set area they preside over. ONLY the US Supreme Court presides over the whole US. As such he CANNOT do under law what he is trying to do

Under the US Constitution Article 3, The US SUPREME COURT is the only court that can rule something unconstitutional all over the US. Individual Judges on the federal level are restricted to making rulings that ONLY EFFECT THEIR AREA. This has been law for over 220 years. And as such it is NOT unconstitutional no matter what you say. And finally, prove this is genetic, show ONE iron clad medical study that proves it or STFU!
