Maybe Japan produces (some) technology, but their export-only economy hasn't really paid off for them with this resource pit of a tsunami, and the fragile economy has crashed, and is now starting close to zero, supported almost solely with the help of foreign investors (American and European).
China's economy, though large, isn't what one would call "creative", and is largely based on manufactuing, with ideas and designs coming from the west. India's a different story
