I'm pretty sure this song developed from the same musical idea as upside down. I think thats just the way Jack writes his songs. He's got that idea and then it kind of develops, and sometimes it develops in two different directions. I also heard different versions of If I had Eyes and Same Girl.

Also, I remember an interview in which he was asked if he smoked pot and he answered sth. like "The weed doesn't really matter". I think that's all there is to say about that issue.
