  • first song - Megara vs DJ Lee - Musical Society

  • Fantastic tune... dj bam vs magera if your interested... could be the other way around! Anyway, search for 'musical society' on downloads.nl, you'll find it. I used to think 12 kts in a Sigma 38 was fast... must try harder

  • i don't like voice or music over recording, bothing sounds more exilirating then crashing waves...

  • Man I LOVE the fing dance music.... (airborne373 is way too old.)

  • now this looks fun!

  • How can you sail 30 kts + with a spinaker or genaker? I always thought that such a sail would burst at a windspeed of 20 knts ?

  • @SpecialPauLiii As the wind speed increases you just use a smaller and flatter spinnaker made of heavier material. It is possible to sail with a spinnaker in 35+ knots, you just need the right equipment a VERY good crew who know what to do when everything goes tits up.

  • @SpecialPauLiii

    AAAAH, I understand : )

    Thanks for answearing : D

  • This yacht is currently for sale look up Lutra 56 on Yachtworld.

  • MAN I LOVE THE FING DANCE MUSIC.

  • at 1 min 41 Bloke sitting down - did he really have no footwear on??? Thats dangerous if u need to jump around!!!!!!!!!

  • What is with that effing sound track!!! Yeah, man, that's the music I listen to in MY head when I'm surfing at 25 knots plus, sleazy house music

  • snellejelles!

  • damn symetricals

  • Déja vue

  • great video

  • What is the name of the boat.

  • Great vid, brings back memories,i was a main sail trimmer....and i hated the spinnaker...in the wrong hands.

  • help me out....why are there two wheels? is "cranky man" altering the "pitch" of the sail relative to the wind, or raising and lowering the main sheet?

  • @kenfo0 The reason for having two steering wheels is to allow the skipper to steer the vessel from any point along the deck abreast the boat to help facilitate seeing beyond the large sails, which are essentially huge blind spots up front. Both wheels are functionally identical.

The "crank" is just a vertically mounted pair of cranks that drives a winch (I assume the one in center cockpit). This setup is much faster than conventionally cranking with a single hand along a horizontal plane.

  • @FlyGuy2480 thanks....didn't think of the line of sight thing...racing boats heel over pretty far. I know the guy is cranking a winch, but is it to raise a sail or to move a boom?

  • @kenfo0 Whoops, stupid edit feature posted my comment three times. Anyways, I will divide this long message in several comments.

The winch is used for whatever rope you wrap around the winch. Once you adjust one rope as desired, you can engage the cleat, take the rope off the winch, and wrap on another rope that serves a different function. In other words, a single winch can serve multiple purposes. Notice that beginning at 0:31 at the bottom of the video frame, there is about 10 adjacent

  • @kenfo0 cleats mounted on the deck, with a row of ropes going in the front end and a tangle of them coming out the back. All of these ropes serve various purposes, such as halyards, sheets, vangs, travelers, downhauls, outhauls, etc., and those functions are labeled in white tape on top of each cleat. If you look carefully, only one rope goes from a cleat to the starboard winch. (There are two ropes going to the port winch, which tells me that they are only using that winch to keep the ropes

  • @kenfo0 organized, and not for adjusting them.)

The crank is mechanically linked (below deck) to one of the winches. On this boat, there is another crank and another pair of winches further aft, and yet another winch between the steering wheels. I cannot tell at all in the video which cranks are mechanically linked to which winches, and neither which ropes serve which functions.

To the best of my knowledge, the guy in the video is, at the time, adjusting the SPINNAKER SHEET. I cannot tell

  • @kenfo0 which winch that sheet is wrapped around. I hope this answers your question. If not, or if you have more, don't hesitate to ask.

  • @FlyGuy2480 Got it. Thanks a lot for taking the time to educate me on this.

  • sweet, my baby loves to watch sailing videos.... loves this one.. and i love the dance music =-]

  • @thefunnyfecker I don't hope so, If they blow up your jacket is a big problem

  • sbagliano un dettagli si tronvano a fare in 360 con la barca intera... ;)

  • no risk,no fun..abot the life lines and the vests...so lucky that you alive gays

  • Amazing feeling to ride the surf... Beautiful boat

    What is this music?

  • @porpoisefathom I know man, I have a 24.6ft 1986 Rampage Express with a 400hp 383 Mercruiser Stroker, I love my motors but there is something amazing about going somewhere this fast for free!

  • look at that wake....

  • u guys r pros!!!!!!!!!

  • u guys got balls

  • shit i get excited when i go 8 kts

  • This is the most awesome sailing video on the TUBE. Even like the music,

  • formidable3 dot nl

  • Lutra 56

  • what boat is that????

  • @mnacp12

Pretty sure it's the old Formidable. A 57fter I think. The owner's a hero - now got a boat called 'Tonnerre' that's been tearing up the offshore circuit in recent years.

  • Great video, but ditch the song. Dance music has NOTHING to do with sailing.

  • you are not sailing guys ...u are the own wind...amazing and regards

  • Great footage.........the way sailing is meant to be!

  • only sailors understand the warm wet sensation in their pants after watching this clip

or is that just me ....

  • how much wind to make her go this fast

  • @richardtheone The top speed was reached on a surf, not just wind at play.

  • Nice flow, hmmmm what a rush!

  • Great ! only remark: no life vests / life lines ??

  • @RedanDehler39 just same tought i had... great adrenaline but hey don't do that at home!

  • @RedanDehler39 auto inflate under jackets

  • @RedanDehler39 on a racing boat? no shit there isnt any of those, they restrict movement...

  • @RedanDehler39 Life vests are for people that can't fly

  • @entropytango clearly you have never been on the open seas and had fun ?

  • F A N T A S T I C !!

  • I would like to surf behind your boat all the time ... :D

  • I'm translating some sailing rating rules from spanish to english, but as there are many technical words, I can't find all of them.

Do you know how it is said, when there is a lot of wind, when you shorten the mainsail?

All boats which have two masts are called "schooners", or I should say "two-masted boat"?

It is correct the term "long-coursed race" for a race with a long course, or is there an specific word?

Could anybody answer me? Thanks for your time! Great vid, by the way!

  • Fabuloso! olé! muy finos, mucha pericia marinera tuvieron de siempre lo "Lores"

    Gran video!!!

  • i don't see how people would dislike this , like come on who doesn't want to do this

  • Yeah, this is a really intense video! Unfortunately, I have to agree that the music doesn't do it for me... Sorry!

  • I cant see any other yachts about on the horizon... pretty good video :)

  • One mistake and you are dead... i will sail a boat like this but im to young...

  • Man I HATE the fing dance music.

  • what are the songs called?

  • Cool I want to be there!!!

  • wow, I only did 17kts in my Catamaran. So this must be extreme!

But I had only 8-10kts wind...

  • Arms of steel? or is there actually no weather helm?

    Great video :D

  • Arms of steel? or is there actually no weather helm?

    Great video :D

  • awesom video! I want to be there too.

    North sea Sailors rule.

this is defenetly close to the edge. Close to the edge o freak out.

    by

  • I've done 18 kts. on a J-105, but this is way more extreme!

  • @norcalrvf That's crazy - in a J105??

  • Sailing, especially on the plane is the most exhilarating experience ever!

  • This is how you live life!

  • @HrafnkelHarthrathi yes he is

if the trimmer say grind or trim he goes turning and he stops as the trimmer say to stop

  • I could watch this all day. FANTASTIC job

  • ive sailed in roughly 37 knot wind but i was in a sunfish, not a keel boat.

im just an amazing sailor like that :D

  • WOW! So exciting to see this!

  • Comment removed

  • So cool. I wish I new how to sail

  • @fillopygeesi he is grinding to get the genakersheet tighter, to get the trim of the genaker right.

  • @roepieislief So, would one of the other crew members be telling him what to do? He isn't looking at the jib...

  • Whats the guy in the middle cranking that thing doing

  • @fillopygeesi He's operating the winches

  • Bare feet thats the spirit!

  • Nothing quite like being carried that fast by the wind.

  • Thank god you put the music on, the video would have totally sucked without it

  • music completely sucks! authentic sailing sound would have been perfect...

  • nice fun jaaaaaa

  • 2 fast for me

  • what kind of boat is this???

  • @jan457457 The boat is the Formidable 3 a Lutra 56

  • Hauling Chilli !!!

  • счастливчики. How lucky they are!

  • GREAT BOAT!!!!!!!!!! dam i would like to race with one like that!!

  • if in doubt.... youtube SPEEDBOAT SAILING :)

highly efficient boats planing or on foils can sail faster that the wind... lets see that comment screw with non-sailors heads (on a reach of course)

  • downwind 20 knots sailing is my faforite

  • Люди экстрималы

  • soundtracks?

  • 22magnum dude, u got no idea about boats mate! If de yacht is goin that quick without wind ( ie. under power of motor) why is the kite still flying??? Doooohhh!!!

Wind power rocks mate! NEVER UNDERESTIMATE IT!!

  • @civvtech some people eh.... god dang tree huggin hippies. lol

  • 2222

  • Engine? Er... no. No way an engine could get it that fast. The wake is a result of the hull and rudder design.

  • @22MAGNUMsRULE... er...no. Using an rngine indeed.

  • An engine can't go so fast on a sailing boat. Don't talk shit when you don't know it for sure.

  • Thats because the yachts you are watching race are most-likely not going strait downwind making a different looking wake. This boat is on a run, the boat is going to be flat in the water and cause that shaped wake. Also the shape of the boat has to do with the shape of the wake, not the engine. The engine of a boat it's self doesn't make a wake, its the boat moving though the water and displacing water. So yeah....

plus...an engine couldn't move a boat that fast unless it was HUGE

  • @22MAGNUMsRULE

Dude, don't comment on sailing since you obviously never have set foot on a sailboat yourself, ok?

  • it looks to me a TP52

  • Smart move taking your hands off the wheel there chief.

  • you can do that when the sails are balanced. it drives itself to a degree

  • Ha ha , americas cup boats were almost as fast in 8 knots of breeze!!!!

  • love it!!! could this kind of speed be generated solo???

  • if you could handle it.. i dont know if i would want to go fast in case of a safety line mishap

  • Problem I see is raising a spinnaker solo in 30knot winds SOLO.

  • The colour of the rain jackets is the same of te sea; i should change that. If you want to be more visible in case of needed

  • wow you guys are so lucky...

  • Last summer I began to learn sailing with my father.I'm 14 years old.

It's so amazing to go with the wind and teel the waves under the ship.

    It's totally wonderfull.

    Greetz from Germany

    Felix

  • SEND IT!!!

  • @TZABOY woops, i was meant to give this a thumbs up! SEND IT!

  • what boat is it??

  • did you ever find out what boat that is? it looks like a sc52 or maybe a geneou(spelt wrong)

  • It's a Luthra 56

  • wat is a NED56.... thats what the sail says the boat is..

  • @005817407 ned56 myte refer to radio call or chanel

  • Ned as in Nederland (Netherlands) perhaps?

  • @005817407 NED56- means its registered in the netherlands and the sail/boat number is 56

  • amazing..want to ride around the world

  • amazing video, who needs an engine when u can hit 24 kts in a sailboat, wow!

  • @reflex0r except this one costs ten times as much and needs six people to make her go...

  • Only sailors understand how close to the edge this is and the cosequences of one slip!

Great clip. I am in envy.

  • @IANRPARKER no shit man these guys are pushing it hard. wish i was there

  • @IANRPARKER How so?

  • @IANRPARKER I'm sure you're right, but as what I'd describe as an intermediate kayaker...my reaction to this clip is "holy crap!".

  • @IANRPARKER Yep one little slip and big problems.

  • Great video :D

  • this looks FUN!! Love the song too, omgz beautiful! great vid mate !!

  • this is a cool video, i think its crazy how man can use the wind like this as a mode of transportation its awesome

  • easy miles = pure fun

  • How long last the trip in this speed like in the film? One wrong step and you are dead.

  • I'm sorry, but that looks like a COMPLETE BLAST! Sign me up for the crew.

  • BTW the guy on the rail is hilarious.

  • My favorite part is how there just chillin' laughing and having a great time.

  • vidéo bidon, avec des plans accélérer...

  • Racing hull design has come a long way since my days of ocean sailing...24+ knot boat speeds just blows my mind. The helm looks twitchy as hell keeping the boat balanced between flat-out speed and a broach. WOW!

  • Yeah, but everyone seems nice and relaxed... GREAT STUFF!

  • can anyone tell me what the first song is. is it a remix and where can I find it. great vid!

  • i have a x402, and the fasted i have been sailing is 25,9 in it..:D but not tooo fast:P

  • Why I cant do this, too?

    we sail only sunshine 38...

  • Love this video!!! Do you guys need crew?

  • what a wind! respect guys

  • Is this vessel an Open 60? If not ,what style of transom is on this boat?

  • l'esaltazione del maschio! 30 nodi a vela!!! da urlo!!!

  • Seems to me that Kabziu is right :D

  • I like the music. does anybdy know what it is?

  • Yeah, its a 'piece of shit'

  • dinghy sailing ftw :D

  • 19,2 kts and 14,45 kts boat speed.

  • I dont know to much about the yachts, but what is the crank for? main sheet? also nice boat and sailing!

  • spin sheet

  • That is not 30 kts .....

  • They are sailing downwind.

  • "sailing in 30 Kts+" means 30 knots of wind. Not 30kts of Boat-speed.

  • Of corse dude, but this is not 30 kts.. no way. I sail 30 kts 2 day ago.. i have a idea of what is 30 kts..

    Its look like 18 - 22 kts...

  • It says sailing IN 30 kts - meaning sailing in 30 knot winds. It never says that they are traveling at 30 kts.

  • miltabib, this is easily 30 kts of true wind speed. Check the boat speed and wind angle. 19kts of boat speed, sailing at 140 degrees to the wind. pretty tough to do in anything less that 30 kts of true wind in a boat like that.

and either way, it's awesome footage of some kickass sailing, why do you have be a smartass?

  • flying dutchmen!

  • Jebatj kapatj huem wrot ne ebeatj - kak eto pizsdato - !!!!!

  • DAMN, there bookin'

  • Can someone please tell me what song is played from 03:30 till about 04:20. Ich do know it, but i just can't figure out the title.

By the way. This ist just insane sailing. So nice to watch.

  • It is Superstar DJs - Here We Go!:

  • chemical brothers - hey girl hey boy

  • géniale, ons sent le planing du bateau, mais c'est assez risquer de sortire son SPI par ce vent

  • Super!!!

  • wow that looks fun but why are there 2 helm wheels and what is that guy in the middle doing? repositioning the jib?

  • dual helms so the helmsman can always be in the windward side for better visibility. The guy in the middle is trimming the main sheet.

  • the guy in the middle is trimming the spinnaker, 'commanded' by the guy sitting on starboard side.

  • You just gotta love sailing, I know I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been doing it for the last 5 and a half years.

  • Hi . I am sunday sailer in Japan. this video is really exiting to watch the running sailing position. 'cause the boat is very uns
