@tr0255 Funny you should mention the Chi-Lites! I just finished a video hours ago, however it was blocked by WMG worldwide. I'll send it to you now. Happy New Year brother Veteran!
@primogennaio, isn't that amazing, being that her distinctive voice and this iconic song doesn't even resonate with some thirties and forties demographic indicates that so many have simply missed out, one less egg to fry for them too.
Either I am getting old, the radio stations overlook good songs, or today's generation has no concept of good music. The song was played as a clue on "Jeopardy!", and not one of the contestants, who appeared to be in the thirties or early forties, could identify it.
The Fifth Dimension was a bright spot in an otherwise dismal period in our country. This was one of their best, but everything they did was was nothing short of great.
I can relate to this, my wife cried when i went to the navy. She would always be at the ship when we left port. I can't tell you how special she is to me, never complains, always happy to see me when i walk in the door. That my friend makes it all worth it. I LOVE YOU BABY WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL!!!!!!!!!!
I was only a little boy when this (and all 5th Dimension hits) was big. But I do know just how much this act left such an impression on popular culture. One difference that I note is how telegenic they were.
It seemed that they made appearances on every variety show going in those days. Still, the American public could not get enough of them.
A little trivia ... This was released, and then pulled so it could be introduced on "It takes a Thief" TV series ... with Robert Wagoner We saw Marylin McKoo perform on a casino boat in Vicksburg ... pretty voice...
omg! nicely done!the pics, went 2gether with the music, so beautifully done!!! thx so much 4 posting this!!!! Marilyn McCoo AND the fifth dimension 1, of the best musical group of the 70,s,, thank u!!!!
@hoodoovalley Hoodoo I could not agree with you more. The opening of the song with Marilyn's sultry voice combined with the guitar and strings is fantastic and the backup vocals are perfect. Listen for Marilyn in the backup part when they sing "Why did he leave?" She sings in soprano with the the rest of the group and the harmonics make for a great blend.
@recordman4862: This song came out in 1970. I can remember seeing them do this song on tv when I was 5 years old in 70. My pops also had the LP called "portrait" in our house which he recordered on to 8 track tape(talk about old school!)and I remember being in the back seat of our 70 coupe de ville with this blasting. Man those were the days! In my opinion the 70's was the best decade ever to grow up in,so much different than today or even the last 20 years!
Do you think back in 1972 when this song came out How does one female sing this song such depth.Marilyn McCoo did Female singers of today never come close.Thank God i live in those times
One of the most beautiful (and yet bittersweet) love songs I've ever heard. Takes me back to the early 1970s, when I first heard this song. LUV IT STILL.
When I was 9 years old my father use to pick me me up and take shopping for school, he had old pontiac with an 8 track player, all he played was the Fith Dimension all day, I still play the CD ow to day
really love this song, even if the memories it brings are better left forgotten.. but i adore the 5th Dimension so much. A big part of my youth is flashed before my eyes!
One of the pleasurable moments I spend is listening to music like this and a plus comes when the singer is talented like MC. Simple ones but satisfying...
i grew up on this song and all the others on the time life am gold cds. every summer of my childhood was comprised of them
