What a brilliant song, filled with anger and desperation, but yet a certain sense of pride despite being on the lower rung of a despotic hierarchy! I remember being in a resale shop when a woman rolls up in her BMW to shop. She shopped there because it was quaint and made her feel a little naughty, I shopped there because I could not afford to pay a days wage on a pair of shoes! I don't mind Shatner singing this, but any rich kid poser group doing this is an insult to me and to Pulp!
As a yank, I'm in complete amazement how great this version, but when I listen to Shatner, I really believe that he want's to screw the chick from Greece! Jarvis is great, but not convincing!
Props to Jarvis for such a brilliant song though, F-ing awesome. The addition of Joe Johnson on Shatner's version puts it OVER THE TOP!
You're only saying that because you're Americans. You're like the rich girl in the song. You don't GET that this, THIS is the anthem of the English working class.
i had heard of, but not heard pulp until my chem covered this, and i'm so glad they did because this song is amazing. and as devoted a my chemical romance fan i am
@happyfulone Arrr but the north never went down..lol.if you pardon my expression..lol,I am proud to be a northerner+if circumstances beyond my control hadn't recently forced me down south....well I would have stayed up north for sure,
I have northern blood flowing through my veins, nobody messes with us..we can def look after ourselves for sure.We share with each other.,there is a warmth a solidarit..I love Jarvis Cocker,he's a great+I loathe namby pamby pseudo toffs ,I eat them for breakfast
One of the best song's written in the 90's (by a country mile!!). Sheffield might of lost it's steel industry yet Cocker put this city back on the map. Pulp will put on a storm at the Isle Of Wight festival.
@Insideoutmonkie I don't know what you said, but kiss my fucking hairy bean bag man

Are people playing some over the top, elaborate practical joke on me by saying the William Shatner version is better? Words fail me. Pulp forever!

Love the full version. My favorite band of all time. The 1990s was an amazing time. Love it, love it, love it, love it. Pulp for ever.

Ever noticed how the logo Pulp used is pretty similar to the 80's Dr Who logo? Was that a coincidence?
